All that you said is true. However, the fact that the BL industry is dominated by straight-identifying actors…
I was just adding my two cents on the whole drama which you brought up. I didn't say it was a direct reaction to what you said, so much so I started my post by agreeing with everything you said. But your reply now got me a bit worried. What are you trying to say, that it's all good? That they are a 'machine for cranking out BLs' without the responsibility or care to be sensitive and inclusive to the people about whom they write stories? And that's fine? And you are absolutely wrong in saying that being out and proud is something not everybody wants. The truth is that being out and proud is something not everybody can afford to do. PS: you need to stop editing your post after you read my reply just because you realize what you said was not enlightening and you want to change it to avoid losing face. What is on screen now for everybody to see has been edited out at least 5 times. That's not fair to change your words and make it seem that my reply is not connected to what you said.
I have just found out that some rabid fan was following Mile around and peeping on him and his girlfriend. This…
All that you said is true. However, the fact that the BL industry is dominated by straight-identifying actors is an indication that as an industry it's not nearly as progressive as it wants to make it seem to be. The level of heteronormativity is way too high for a universe that revolves around gay relationships. What I'm saying now is not about Mile himself, it's a jab at an industry that continues to glorify straight / straight acting men and neglect out and proud homosexuals and / or more effeminate men.
I really, really wanted to like it but ugh, I don't know. I didn't hate it but I was kind of unimpressed. Too many of the same old tropes, I guess. I'll continue to watch it but it's not like I'm excited for the next episode.
You know what I like most about this show? How no one is afraid to use the word GAY. Not the usual vague 'I like you', 'I like men', 'I don't mind your gender', but the actual word gay. Also, no one is pretending to be straight or dating women just for shows or out of confusion, everyone is gay from the get go. For a show that airs during primetime TV and is not targeted specifically at an LGBTQ audience, it's very important to make sure sexuality is dealt with in a sensitive and upfront way, and they're doing it very effectively. I think in terms of being upfront and avoiding the whole straight-to-gay/bi trope, this lakorn is much more progressive and honest than your average BL.
Does anyone know the name of the song that is playing at the end credits of the last couple of episodes? The same song was playing when Hia and Kuea were kissing at Pentagon. I think it's Nunew's voice but I'm not sure.
Tofu is one of the sweetest characters I've ever seen in Asian BLs (well he's a teddy bear after all - being cute is his nature) Prib has the worst gaydar of all the BL characters (she liked Tatarn, now she likes Nut - good god girl get a grip) Nut is an interesting character. On the surface he's a bit of a jerk, but little by little the show is giving us enough information about his background that makes us feel sympathetic towards him. But still I hope that by the end of the series his anger outburts will be gone for good
A girlfriend? Really? Because all a 20-ish-minute, 8-episode series needs is to add ALL the chiches and tropes to fill the slots of such a demanding task of creating a short story. Sighs. At this point I'd much rather see Chap and Green tik tok videos (their interactions IRL are filled with sexual tension) than this poorly written, ill-executed mini series.
That was a solid first episode, wasn't it? I'm just going to echo what other people have said below that I had low expectations but what I saw was much better than what I'd anticipated. Hope they keep the same quality thoroughout the rest of the show.
Well, I was the one who used the word "porn". I was just joking. I'm not expecting real porn. But the atmosphere…
Definitely interesting. It's just that I find Asian shows to be a bit tame, even the ones that are supposed to be 'sexy'. Like last week I watched Pornographer, which is a show many people branded as hot and all and at the end I was like 'oh that's it?' LOL. Not that I need to see anything explicit, no need for that, but like I said in my original comment Queer as folk (US) was the first gay show I ever watched (even though I was barely a teenager at the time) and it kind of spoiled me because I can rarely find any show as steamy as that.
I'm hearing people use some words about this show and I'm a bit curious. People in the comments have used words like erotic, porn, explicit. If anyone cares to venture a guess, how 'hot' do you actually think this show will be? I think some people don't really know what explicit means because I doubt a show like that will come close to anything explicit, I'm not even expecting Queer as folk-like steamy scenes. I think people who are expecting something like that might end up a bit disappointed.
This show has turned out to be great, much better than I was expecting it to be, but it would be even better without Prib. Why the hell does she exist? She's not funny at all, she's just annoying and obnoxious. I swear if they put her between Nut and Tofu (especially since they've stressed that Nut is gay) I'll fly to Thailand myself and slap the shit out of the producers.
It was cute. Not the best plot, nor the best acting, the lack of skinship and the resolutions at the very last episode kind of took a bit of the potential of the series away. but who can resist the little cuties that are Tawan and Mork both individually and together?
Such a brat! Maybe he can eat ass good or something, I have no idea why Akk liked him.
OMG Iaughed so much reading your comment LOL. Well we didn't even get to see a sexy scene to help redeem his character so that's another downside to the show.
I've lost count of how many times I wanted to get into the screen and bitch slap the shit out of Theo this episode. What a brat. The show overall was a bit underwhelming, but not as bad as some people are making it out to be. I just think a more likeable lead (and actor) would've made a big difference. Akk / Force are fine, but Theo / Book are a bit hard to take.
Enchante = Tonhon Chonlatee levels awfulness but with talentless lead actors who probably only got cast because…
Oh, come on, Enchante is nowhere near as bad as Tonhon Chonlatee. Enchante may be a bit boring and bland, but it doesn't have any of the homophobic and heteronormative bullcrap of Tonhon Chonlatee. Let's be fair. But yes, Podd and Khaotung are better actors and are more charismatic than Force and Book, that much I'll agree with you.
I have to say, I would've liked a less bromance-y final episode, but overall I enjoyed the series. I agree that it peaked halfway through its course, but I was excited about a new episode every week, which is more than I can say about a few shows that I continue to watch just because I hate dropping things in the middle.
