But seriously I'm glad the argument happened because no matter how hard Kiyoi seemed to be trying, Hira seemed to be stuck on day one.

The more Kiyoi was kind to Hira and tried to boost his confidence, the more Hira saw Kiyoi as his king. It wasn't going well specially not for Kiyoi.

They didn't actually even break up which is also a good thing.

Also Yusei and Riku killed it with their acting. It was amazing

Hira overreacting is a part of his personality which sometimes gets "exaggerated" for humor. It's not supposed to be realistic, it's supposed to be a "wtf" type of moment

Koyama generally does not have any business meddling with other people's relationships. If they are happy and satisfied with their dynamic then it's nobody else's business.

Actually I don't think that has anything to do with Koyama. I think the reason why we didn't get to see Kiyoi and Hira buy their own house (yet) is because of the location.

Hira's house is way too beautiful for the director to easily change plus Hira's cousin will show up next episode I think. so they might start thinking about moving in the next episode instead. Ofcourse these are just my speculation but I don't think that part of the plot has anything to do with Koyama

So I got tired of rewatching the show and needed more utsukare which made me go and search for content lol. I'm a loser just like Hira haha

I'm not sure if anyone's interested but I really recommend reading analysis on this show made by "emotionallychargedtowel" on tumblr. Some of their analysis are so on point and a great read tbh. Tumblr in general has some great analysis on HiraKiyoi.

I also want to recommend both Psynergic and Jeanet Henning on YouTube. Their reaction to the episodes are just hilarious to me lmfao

I just realized that even with 2 seasons, this entire series has less episodes than a lot other bl shows even Japanese ones like cherry magic (with 12 episodes for one season) and it makes me feel really sad for some reason.

I also didn't like adding too much Koyama in both seasons. I agree that they make Koyama seem way more influential in Hira's life and end up reducing Kiyoi's influence which is against the original writing and I can't see a reason behind it beyond giving Koyama's actor more things to do

There is a chance that they entirely mistook Koyama's character as a "nice person" vs Kiyoi and just ran with it. Because being nice doesn't make you owe romance

That being said, I can't be too mad because I feel like the fact that we got an adaptation and a second season is already a miracle. The truth is I actually do enjoy the series more than the books due to the acting and cinematography so at this point I'll take anything lol

Also tbf I think Kiyoi still did encourage Hira in all three aspects.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, I'm fairly certain that they want to add more Koyama in the show for some reason

which tbf isn't necessarily a problem but considering the fact that this series only has 4 or 6 episodes each season, they end up removing or changinh some HiraKiyoi scenes for Koyama and I just don't know how to feel about it. At least the actor seems nice

Even irl not every couple is intimate actually. Everyone is different and so is every relationship.

Arguably Kiyoi has improved a lot in the "intimacy" aspect from season 1. He expresses himself and his feelings much better, he hugs Hira, sits on his lap, goes in for a kiss and asks about sex whenever he wants to which is a huge improvement since season 1.

Hira is the one who hasn't changed much but he might be getting there. Hira usually acts surprised when Kiyoi is the one showing affection but not other way around. He doesn't hesitate to touch Kiyoi in bed, doesn't hesitate to play with his hair, doesn't hesitate to make love and be persistent (lol), Hira's love language is acts of service

What seems to still surprise Hira is Kiyoi loving him and/or Kiyoi finding out about his "embarrassing" side. Like when he didn't share his insecurities about finding a job with Kiyoi or when he was taken a back by Kiyoi suddenly waking up when he was just brushing Kiyoi's hair lovingly.

Kinda wish Kiyoi also had a Koyama to motivate Hira to be better for Kiyoi lol

One of the biggest difference between the adaptations and the novels is Koyama. For some reason Koyama is a lot nicer and has a much bigger role in the adaptation while in the novels he is unimportant and annoying.

I'm not sure how to feel about that because I don't like Koyama very much but he is played by a nice actor.

Other than that, God I love these two so much! Specially Kiyoi. He is trying his best give him credit! Hira's interaction with Anna's fanboy was interesting and I'm seeing a future conflict/parallel between them.

Did I mention how cute Kiyoi is ?

While I do think Kiyoi definitely needs to improve, I guess I'll just disagree with a few things.

The thing is that, Hira is autistic (in my opinion)so the way he acts is different from others, almost repetitive and obsessive. The relationship between Hira and Kiyoi is not a kink and Kiyoi never liked being worshipped. He wants to be loved.

Hira is not a child who needs to be asked about his opinions 24/7. If Hira was not the way he is, he would've told Kiyoi about what type of clothing he wants instead of just letting Kiyoi decide. He simply doesn't seem have any opinions on the matter. And Kiyoi never forced Hira to go to the party. Hira decided to go. They had a whole conversation about that.

Kiyoi is trying to give Hira confidence and make him socialize but Hira is Hira. Kiyoi could definitely be better but at least he feels like he is trying.

Reading your comment made me realize how important the sex scenes between Hira and Kiyoi in the novels are lol

You see, the thing about Hira and Kiyoi's relationship in the novels is that usually on the outside Kiyoi seems to be the one who is more dominant between the two . He is demanding and proud while Hira follows him like a puppy , but when they are together in bed, Kiyoi turns in to the most vulnerable and even submissive creature and Hira suddenly becomes demanding and more dominant. Kiyoi gives himself all to Hira and Hira uses the opportunity as much as he can lol

Unfortunately I don't think people who only watch the series will ever get the nuance because this show isn't going to show too much of their sex life.

That being said I don't understand what you mean when you say "Why won't Kiyoi act more giving?" What do you want him to do exactly?

Also the relationship between Hira and Kiyoi is neither unhealthy nor toxic. The word I would use to describe is "imperfect".
Just like Hira's picture right before the "perfect moon", the relationship is the closest thing they can get to perfection but it's still imperfect.

Also don't worry there certainty is conflict leading to drama (which unlike many other dramas doesn't involve cheating, thank God for that)

Also yesss I love the acting. I've already talked about Yusei but Riku plays his character perfectly as well. Like Hira's stuttering problems are always there with him and so is Hira's general defensive and scared body language. And the way he smiles at Kiyoi? I love his acting

I remember a few years ago when Utsukare 1 came out for the first time, people were very critical and negative about Yusei as an actor.

Watching this episode, I can't help it but think how great of an actor he actually is with all of his subtle facial expressions. You can read Kiyoi's emotions in his eyes and in his body language and even in his tone of voice all because of Yusei's acting. Gotta give credit where it's due

Also this episode had way too many cute , shy and pouty Kiyoi which isn't good for my heart
