Sharing some tidbit, there are actually 4 different directors (they filmed different sections/parts with 1 main director) for this drama. I can't find the name of the director for case 3 but they absolutely deserve praise because the framing/cinematography is absolutely beautiful. Case 3 is actually the first case this cast filmed too.
Yan Li is an ally. His background is super complicated though and has a lot to do with the main case.
Well, let's just say he is part of the imperial family for now and his dad is part of the family too. 👀 As of now, his identity would be Yan Chi's cousin. All the Yans in Yan Chi's generation we will meet later on are basically cousins.
I really love the little moments here and there that focus on the conflicts of the supporting characters, it doesn't take away from the pacing or the focus on the cases either.
An example is with Yue Ning wanting to help, feeling like she is unhelpful, and Qin Wan reminding her this is basically her first time, and everyone is inexperienced at first. Then you have Qin Wan who except for Fu Ling, didn't really want to drag anyone else into her problems (even if it ends up risking her own life) but here she is openly accepting Yue Ning's help because "loyalty above life". 🥺 They are a good duo, but their experiences are still nothing compared to someone like Doctor Sun who is over a decade older than them.
Also another scene that was pretty important too was Yan Chi's convo with Sun Muqing about Qin Wan gaining her own power/respect. Because yeah, it is nice (and a ship moment) that Yan Chi got those officials to listen to Qin Wan using his own power/title but Qin Wan needs power that only belongs to herself (especially because it is not guaranteed Yan Chi will be around forever and just realistically, a man can be nice/help you when he is in love with you but also take that away when he is no longer in love with you). But this convo and Yan Chi's answer is essentially setting up for Qin Wan to gain individual power/title that won't have ties to Yan Chi's feelings for her which is a good thing.
