The 3rd branch lives in their ancestral home so it is kind of considered the root. Qin Wan as a lady can't just go to the capital straight away for the 1st branch because the 1st branch is involved in imperial matters aka way more important than the 3rd branch. If Qin Wan had gone to the 1st branch right away, 1st branch would have send her straight to the 3rd branch because "you are a lady, you need to grief in peace, etc.". Qin Wan basically had not proven any "worth" for 1st branch to accept her if she just showed up there.

Yup! It is a breath of fresh air. The conflicts are not due to misunderstandings or lack of communication. They already have so much going on with their goals/case-breaking that their relationship being so normal/slowly building up is actually a highlight. In addition, those two have also established themselves as individuals first before viewers feel like they are being forced to ship them just because the scriptwriter said so. Plus, LLD and ARP are doing really well with the glances, the momentarily increase in heart beats, the way they use their eyes, etc. Just very well done because yes, we will get tons of kissing scenes later, but these moments will make sure those scenes aren't just for fanservice but a natural progression.

The ones watching love that the FL and ML are normal people. They have their own strengths, weaknesses, communicate right away when misunderstanding happens, will actually apologize, and also own up to their weaknesses/mistakes.

They also balance out each other really well. When Yan Chi is ready to just kill, Qin Wan is there to remind him that the victims need their justice via law first. When Qin Wan is about to just stab Qin An, Yan Chi is ready to stop her for her sake. When Yan Chi revealed his past, Qin Wan said the words he needed to hear all along, etc.

It is just a very healthy relationship that they haven't seen in a long time in period idol dramas. Qin Wan is also a FL that actually gets to shine aka not a prop for the ML. Yan Chi is a ML that definitely has a cunning side (especially when we get to the later episodes), but he is also very respectful to those who did nothing wrong.

The romance build up is also very normal and C-viewers totally understood why Yan Chi had already fell for Qin Wan. A FL-centric drama is successful when the viewers can get the FL's charisma and understand why people would fall for her + she isn't just a camera lens to show how amazing the ML is.

Also getting closer to mutual romance. 👀

I am so excited for when they start heading off to the capital. We will finally meet Yan Li, the first branch of the Qin family, and more to come.

Happy ending in the novel! It should be the same in the drama.

"Love of the Divine Tree" seemed to have pretty positive reviews so at least it had that going for it. FL actress isn't that known though so Deng Wei alone couldn't just carry that drama.

"White Oliver Tree" was not a good drama. 😅 It had high expectation but the directing, the coloring, the acting, all didn't meet expectation, and fans can't do much when viewers dropped it.

"The Best Thing" was competing with "The First Frost" and "Filter". TFF was a big IP and had really big promo, so the viewers were guaranteed while "Filter" pretty much dominated discussion and was the highest rated idol modern romance of the year.

"Coroner's Diary" is in a unique spot because it is during the summer competition, LLD and ARP have at least /some/ traffic, got the looks to attract viewers to check it out, the ship has chemistry, and LLD's acting/visual has attracted a lot of attention with this drama. It is definitely off to a very GOOD start.

But I am just saying this so people don't feel disappointed if it didn't reach 10K because most iQiyi dramas nowadays don't reach 10K until the last day and even then, it is very hard without big promo and 推流. The traffic for this drama is actually limited on social platforms right now aka the drama team isn't really paying up for promo to spread this drama for people to know it exist.

Haha it should be okay because of the scriptwriter (plus the original novel it was based on). Li Hui Zhu's specialty is actually these types of thriller/case-solving dramas. ABL also has a script problem so directing can't really save anything if the script is bad.

Yeah, there are 8 cases in total. Some of the cases will be around 2 episodes. These first 2 cases are just on the longer side because case 1 and case 2 are connected + they had to introduce over 20+ characters/establish the relationships in order for case 2 to make sense.
