I don't think he really needed to think about stopping it, his face changed to disgust/wtf?? the moment he realized what that creep was implying. since he started gathering his inner force the moment he worked out that guy was serious and Red Lady did not have this, I read it as some combo of needing to first un-stun himself from that guy's fist attack (that guy likes his acu-freezes) + thinking of how the hell can he stop it against a guy who physically outclasses him in every single way, before eventually giving up on finding a winning strategy and just deciding try or die trying is the way to go.

He truly is the only hope though 2nd bro is not beyond hope either. Bad judgement from Yiren-- I beez shook. (I think it's not about the sword techniques, but about the status. If a ton of people want to learn from you, you have more supporters to do what you want them to do, it comes back to power which is consistent with this being what Yiren seems to value most.) he’s just adapting it, kinda like Peter Jackson adapting The Hobbit. He’s not the original author and didn’t read it that closely when adapting.

The “main quest” was one way of completing the game, while becoming sect leader was another way of unlocking the option to complete the game; he completed path 2 which unlocked the option of not needing to complete path 1 as XQS— though with it still saying “complete the main quest as a different character” it sounds like the System is keen for its main quest to still be there playing out either way. Mission 3 will almost definitely happen 👀

The real question is whether having knocked back the option to quit, the quest will resume 👀 I don’t think he in any way shut down the system becoming sect leader, just got the option basically to quit the game/character 👀

He gets to skip all quests and take the story in his own direction once he qualifies as sect leader iirc so it overrides the main plot line I believe (two optional ways to finish the main quest of the game)
