The FL, PGW and the queen dowager are the most interesting characters in the series. The cinematography is phenomenal, but plot wise not that many interesting things happen in each episode.
Imo, episode one was one of the most eventful eps so if you are struggling to watch now, I don't think you will like the future eps.
That said, yes I agree with Nicole the Greek. The final scene of the 4th ep is fantastic and you can give it a try until then, but generally the show has some great final scenes but as a whole the eps are not that great plot wise. It doesn't have that spark and excitement that should be there in a (mainly) political drama.
So if you are looking for romance, are not interested in the characters and don't really care about the cinematography, then I think it would be better to drop it!
I think the admins are still working on the update, so it will probably take a while until MDL gets back to normal.
There are people that have starred in well known or even awarded series and movies.
Yoo Ji Tae has starred in Healer and Oldboy (probably one of the most famous korean movies worldwide.)
Jeon Jong Seo doesn't have that many projects under her belt, but in her debut role she starred in Burning, a movie that won two awards in Cannes along with many other awards and it is very famous to people that like cinema. Plus The Call (a netflix movie)
There are other impressive names in the cast, like Park Hae Soo (squid game, prison playbook), Kim Ji Hoon (that became extremely famous after Flower of evil), Park Myung Hoon (he starred in Parasite - the first ever non-English film to win the oscar of the Best Picture plus Crash landing on you)
Looking at what they have starred in, the cast is stellar and even the international audience that may not watch kdramas will know some of them!
Obviously a good cast, doesn't mean that the series will be good, but there are certainly some huge names included in the lineup.
Besides that though, rating will stabilize after a few weeks.
I think he is one of the MLs, but so far this is more revenge centred and I feel like the other ML will be more ''active'' in the first eps.
Dramacool is not an original platform so don't trust it too much.
To be honest the King is not really a well written character. He is supposed to know how the whole game works. He is in the palace for years, he has been personally affected by what has happened so far and he seemed to have a plan in the first 2 eps, but now it seems that the FL that barely had any experience in the palace and wasn't planning to come back is acting much smarter than the King.
happening after the unification of South and Norh Korea. That means that there will probably be great differences regarding the politics and also differences with the characters since they will probably have a different background story.
Even though in the beginning it seemed like he would be the main player, right now he is overshadowed by other characters that know much better than him how to play this political game.
His character is not interesting and he doesn't have that spark that other main leads in historical dramas have. I don't know if he is blinded by love or if he is just not that smart, but I am also hoping that he has a great plan that has not been revealed yet and he is fooling everyone including the audience. However, to be completely honest, I doubt it.
This is one of those shows that you will other really like or find boring.
It is character driven series. You will either find the characters interesting and relate with them or you will find them boring to watch and could not care less about what will happen to them.
It is not like many exciting things will happen plot-wise.
If you still don't like it, you don't relate to the characters in any way and you are halfway through , it is safe to say that you will probably not enjoy the rest of it. It is a hit or miss kind of show.
But yes, if you don't feel like reading it, for me it is a very poorly written series that isn't worth your time.
However if you wanted to watch it, I would suggest that you give the first two episodes a chance to get a general idea of what this series will be like.
"they obviously did not have enough plot for 8 episodes, so they had to invent some random issues that had no place to exist and be part of the show..."
I laughed at this more than i should have. There are so many shows like this around, I don't need another one...
