Edit: I just saw the link. It shows "something gone wrong..." to me. It may be a region thing.
Hopefully it will reach 1m tomorrow.
Jokes aside, I feel we will actually get to watch this one this time.
It is true that they invested tons of money and because they are not releasing it they are currently not making any profits.
However, since they aren't releasing it, maybe they think there is a slight chance it will air at some point -I mean last year (I think) a series that was shelved for like 7 years broadcasted and there are rumous that another one, The Fated General, will also see the light of day after many years-.
The thing is that Cdramas are not THAT popular internationally. So even if they sell it they probably will have no profit or a very minimal one. Plus, this was a high budget production at the time (and the CP is very popular), not similar to the spirealm that was very low budget and probably not even Justice in the Dark -costume dramas are always more expensive-, so risk is much higher. Plus the actors are super famous now, compared to people that starred in The Spirealm that weren't really famous.
Even if someone watched it the moment it dropped they would have finished watching like 15 minutes ago, so it's natural it doesn't have any ratings.
However, all cases mostly depend on circumstances or facts not just this. You can only judge with what you have and what you know or what you conclude with the facts you have. Law in itself is deeply flawed. However, under these circumstances I don't think that the final verdict for LMF's case is wrong taking into consideration the evidence they had (stick vs knife, known facts -no video evidence-, inconsistent statements etc).
I think what would truly help in having better written and more complex dramas would be the lack of censorship, something that won't be happening. The ending of the series felt forced to follow a specific route because of that. I mean the moment you watch it knowing it's a Chinese drama you know that the culprit will not get away with it in the end.
About the knife pretty sure that was mentioned that it was the librarian's from the prosecutors. About the stick, thing is that LMF couldn't really know about the stick at the time, he felt threatened which is natural. But prosecutors/lawyers etc can tell if something could inflict lethal harm or not. They said that the stick was not thick and wouldn't kill him, plus no matter how you see it a knife is much more lethal than a stick.
And not just that, in the appeal Mei Zheng changed her statement. She said Zhou Lin didn't beat her or tried to assault her and he definitely didn't rape her. So I think LMF was rightfully sentenced for excessive defense. After all, the fact that there were no evidence comparing to the other two cases (like videos) makes the case much more difficult.
Edit: Me coming here every few days and seeing nothing 🤡
