what was that shaving scene? there was literally nothing to shave
There was a bit of stubble above his upper lip I think, but honestly since most Asian men generally have finer and less facial hair compared to let's say Westerners, it's not surprising that you can barely see it on camera.
Just to clarify, this drama wasn’t created for the BL fans or focuses on two guys falling in love. It’s based…
Your interpretation assumes that romantic attraction must always include sexual desire to be considered real or transcendent, but that’s a narrow and reductive view of how love and identity truly work. In this case, the male lead knows the change is temporary, just like it was for the female lead’s mother so he chooses to stay, fully aware that things will eventually return to normal. His commitment shows that their relationship isn’t based solely on physical attraction, he’s willing to wait and support her through this, prioritizing his relationship with her over his own desires. The fact that he may not be sexually attracted to her altered physical form doesn’t diminish the emotional depth or sincerity of his love, if anything, his actions prove the opposite to me.

Gender-bender stories aren’t just a way to dodge gay themes imo they're a unique trope with their own distinct characteristics and purposes. Even in the big year of 2025, they still have a place for people who enjoy them when done well. While it’s true that Korea and other countries might still be catching up, that doesn’t mean there’s something inherently wrong with gender-bender theme. And nowadays, even in Korea there is a big variety of BL manhwa/series coming out in recent years. Plus the conversation about gender is still very much alive and these kinds of stories continue to dig into it and people's "what ifs"/fantasies. And just to be clear, gender-bender ≠ avoiding gay themes because they’re about exploring identity, not dodging deeper issues like sexuality. Take this drama for example, it's clear that the ML is straight and does not feel sexually attracted to his gf in her male form, plus his long list of "bird files" can also testify for it. And him being willing to stay with her and help her even while she faces that hardship, shows that the essence of a person, our soul or whatever you want to call it could transcend gender, appearance, and even societal labels. Ultimately, no one’s being forced to engage with these themes, but for those who do enjoy them like me, they offer a chance to see characters wrestle with gender roles, stereotypes and expectations. That’s something that’s always been interesting and relevant, no matter the era.
Honestly, when I first heard about this ABO adaptation, I was a bit reluctant to watch it. I was curious about how they could possibly make it work in live, especially with the whole pheromones and heat situation. However, after watching the first two episodes, I have to say that they handled it quite well and in a way that isn't cringy or overly sexual. I knew I could trust the Chinese production and cast! Let's see how it goes~ Btw only 1 ep a week, it's such a torture if I knew earlier I would let it marinate some more...
I have no patience for shows that try to attract a BL audience but don’t dare to be direct. Why not just make…
Just to clarify, this drama wasn’t created for the BL fans or focuses on two guys falling in love. It’s based on a manhwa with gender bender and shoujo as its official tags. The main theme is about the strength of love, how it evolves when accepting different versions of your partner and how both characters discover new layers of themselves through gender differences. So, while I totally get that some BL fans like you might jump in when they see two guys in a cover, this wasn’t aimed for that audience. But hey, if you’re not feeling it, thankfully nowadays there are plenty of great BL and even GL series out there that might be a better fit for you! No need to force it!
Currently on episode 5 and so glad I decided to pick this up! I went in without even reading the synopsis. The plot twist? Chef’s kiss so well-written and perfectly timed! The backstory and true identity of the villain hit all the right marks. Honestly, the only downside is that I really loved the dynamic between the MC and the villain before the reveal. I kind of wish we could see them working together more on the same side instead of having to go up against each other. That being said, I knew there was more to the villain, but I never expected that much! On one side, we’ve got the blue eyed Asian mafia guy who came back from the States to 'create a new world' filled with gunfights and terror to exude his vengeance from the society that gave up on him and because his life is on the way to ruin, quite the character setup. And then there’s the MC, who’s got to step up and stop his plans from coming to fruition while dealing with his own fears and past trauma. This show is seriously keeping me hooked! Ah, and it definitely deserves a higher rating!
I doubt for long lol I think she will keep switching between them throughout the show until we reach near the end and she finally stays in her og form for good!
Okay, ep2 got even funnier >< Everyone falling for FL's male form left and right and her bf even feeling insecure cause of her being better than him in that form haha And the bird folders(p*rn clips) on the pc that ML's little sister found took me out!! Haven't laughed so much in an ep for a while~ And so far it's not homophobic, poor ML it's just simply straight and trying to process everything...
how do people find this uncomfortable to watch, it's so fun and light hearted
Exactly! Anyone who feels uncomfortable just because they see two guys together on screen (especially when it's not even BL) is kinda giving homophobic vibes for me. The show has such a funny and easygoing vibe and the guys' scenes aren't even trying to be "romantic".
For anyone confused:The main character (Kim ji Eun) turns into a man, but on the inside, she’s still the same…
I love the way you put it and the points you made here, I think cover the issue nicely and makes it easy for others to undertand plus the manhwa tags are literally gender benter and shoujo!
Ep1 it's soo much fun haha I think I will absolutely love this show~ >< Btw I remember reading the manhwa a long time ago but never completing it and if I remember correctly, the whole premise was that the curse was something that had to do with her family or smth like that? idk Honestly, this show feels to me like the purest form of love. The ML is truly a keeper for standing by her side and facing everything together. That kind of love unshaken by appearances or circumstances, is rare and beautiful. Something that can hardly be found irl lol Also, the ML’s interactions with the FL while she was stuck in the male body were hilarious af and kinda sweet! I am so excited! Kinda reminds me of Mr.Queen but the opposite situation haha
It also reminds me of another kdrama called The Beauty Inside (2018) which was a great series and again the FL had to switch appearances multiple times there and ML still stayed with her through it all^^
As far as dramatic scenes are concerned, it makes no difference, but I will never be in favor of censorship
Oh, neither am I. I truly believe everyone especially artists, authors, and creative people should have the freedom to express themselves. It’s really disheartening to see what happens to BL artists and production teams in China just for trying to share their work. It also makes it even harder for so many other promising series which are still sitting on the shelves to ever see the light of day. I just wanted to clarify that there's a difference between bromance and censored BL. As for the other part of my original comment, that comes down to personal preference, I tend to enjoy shows that focus more on subtle, romantic moments rather than relying heavily on bed scenes or overly intimate scenes. I appreciate stories that unfold slowly, with soft/longful touches, emotional dialogue, and a genuine build-up. That said, even without censorship, Chinese productions often understand the right balance especially when you look at how they handle romance in straight shows. So I believe I’d still be a big fan of their BL content. For instance, I love Revenged Love or Stay With Me. And ofc every now and then, I’m up for something a bit spicier too if the plot is compelling and the acting/chemistry holds up.^^
Honestly, I find the whole "bromance vs. BL" discourse that pops up under almost every censored Chinese BL each time they air, more amusing than annoying at this point...Like, come on. Is it really that hard for some people to understand? Look at the freaking poster and photos from their scenes in the gallery...Plus the director is the same one from WOH lol
Just because we don’t get kisses or bed scenes doesn’t mean there isn’t a deep connection leaning to romance between the leads. Personally, I often prefer some of these C-BLs over BLs from other countries that are full of physical intimacy yet fall short in acting and plot depth. I love to see the emotional buildup, the sweet and thoughtful dialogue with double meanings sometimes, the lingering glances, the subtle touches that can make your heart flutter.
So no, "censored BL" does not equal "bromance" in my book. Bromance is a close, friendly bond more like a found brotherhood with no romantic/sexual feelings attached. But in many of these C-dramas, the chemistry and emotional undercurrents clearly suggest something much deeper and romantic.
I couldn't resist anymore and finally started this! I’m 3 episodes in and it’s been so hilarious, literally had me laughing out loud. Episode 1 was a bit slow, just setting the groundwork, but episode 2 picked up and now episode 3 has me totally hooked! I knew I could count on Chai Ji Dan! The original adaptation and cast were nice too, but you can definitely see the upgrade in both the plot and cinematography/production this time around. Just like with Stay with Me! Can’t wait to catch up more!
