Truly honest question... If you know that this is a sadomasochism romance drama, AND that you do not like the themes expressed in these formats, why do you want to watch them? This isn't an attack as anyone is free to watch whatever they want, it is just a question based on the fact that your comment expresses your dissatisfaction with the tropes of the show, while also mentioning "this is exactly how the sadomasochism genre works".

When watching these they tend to always be referring to a specific Concubines "color" as usually being off-limits for one reason or another - in this instance they were referring to the color of the woman who had been locked away in the Cold Palace after being disfigured. The drama referred to her "fei" rank when discussing the color (I don't remember which rank she was but like "(Guan) Fei Color" as an example is how it was technically referred to as 😅.

Ma Hao Dong plays a BEYOND lustful Prince Regent who is willingly used by Li Sheng Xuan's black lotus antics in exchange for her warming his bed. On a "hearts and flowers" romance scale this is a barely a 1/10, inching out being a 0/10 by having the ML willing to be used and following through with his promises. Meanwhile the FL is the type to roll her eyes as he's being lustful and then complain the next morning that she's in pain everywhere (again).
Still, I've rewatched this one now a couple times.

You're right that they don't specifically say 'red' 😅 - they refer to it as the color of that one concubine, but on my screen it "looked" redish so went with that explanation to try and make it easier. 😅

🤣 sometimes our tastes are VERY different. My head hurts and I went through multiple verticals to no avail before deciding to find a Ma Hao Dong one and am rewatching this one now since it's not a comedy so won't make my head hurt worse. Still like the FL's antics in using him without SOMEHOW realizing that he knew and allowed himself to be used by her 🤡

This was a VERY good palace harem drama.

Yue Yu Ting is betrothed to Wei Ruo Chen but there is a selection for new girls to enter the palace and all unmarried girls are required to attend. Her father forces her to go to help her elder sister and WRC tells her to wear red to NOT be selected but is scheming to get her into the palace instead. Once inside she meets the many palace schemes and overcomes them with the help of her Eunuch played by Zhu Zhe Ren.

Overall the story is partly 'same old, same old' but also has an element of something different with the addition of the scheming of the two men added.

Wei Ruo Chen playing a scumbag is always enough to turn your stomach and he absolutely will turn your stomach; while Zhu Zhe Ren's gentle and supportive adoration was a nice slow burn.

I liked how she calls him out for being insane and has the flashback to the previous life and how he acted as well as how he was acting in THIS timeline when he was saving her as it shows her conflicting feelings when faced with the fact that he looks like he IS the same insane person still. I could really go 50/50 of if she's going to actually stab him in tomorrow's episode but if she DID she'd immediately not like herself I think.

Tomorrow is episode 16 and then episode 17 follow on 2nd with 18-28 also provided as pay-to- unlock.... so 1 episode tomorrow then 12 on 2nd.

🤣 I literally took a screen shot this whole thing... "master of disguise"... pops up with awful fake mustache and then another for wound with long feminine nails 🤣

I wouldn't watch this show if you're only looking looking for kiss scenes. Does it have them, yes; but in regards to the overall length of the show and compared to many other shows this show is "chaste".
