The cast in S2 changed. I loved the cast in this season. I loved Xuan Yi's role too. Idk what to expect from the…
I loved the entire cast of this, so changing them all for S2 is annoying. If they don’t shoot it as a direct sequel to this but as a different bit of the same story I might watch it. I don’t have expectations though
I like xiao zhan as weiying character from untamed, and wanna see him more with character like him, watched this…
I don’t think Xiao Zhan would continue playing characters like Wei Ying since he probably wants to diversify and play different roles. He’s great everywhere though. He’s very different in DC but very loveable
I'm on ep 3 and this isn't interesting to me! Should I continue?
It’s a pretty fun show and there’s comedy. Lots of interesting characters too. But I concur with the commenter here- it’s not overly complex or anything. It’s quite entertaining though
This review describes my experience with cdrama perfectly. I start watching very highly rated and praised show,…
Yeah I think this kind of thing happens a lot. If you have criticisms about some show that people are totally head over heels in love with, you’ll be treated as an anti. 🤷♀️
" it doesn't deserve such ratings" "people who's rating it this high probably only doing it for visuals/romance"…
You’re entitled to your opinion but I’ve made my opinion clear many times on this review and in the comments too. I’ve watched a whole bunch of romance shows - this started well and then became quite boring in the second half. The fact that you need to comment on the review of one in the “minority” (I.e. my review) shows how much you need to validate your own love for this drama. I don’t know why that’s important when this show is already getting ridiculously high ratings. If I were a hater or anti, I’d have given this a 1. It’s not a bad show. It’s just not very good overall. That’s my opinion and I’ve given my reasons for that. You can have different opinions. Also I’ve seen ZLS on multiple shows where she’s used her own voice. She doesn’t sound THIS way. Her voice isn’t even the main issue as much as her acting like she’s 13. Again it’s my opinion- which you don’t have to get inflamed about. You have your own - which is vastly different than mine but at least I’m not commenting ay you calling you entitled because you have an opinion different than mine
Since this show is currently the highest rated show on MDL since it relates with and immensely entertained a lot…
Thanks for your comment. I’ve given it 5 not because it’s horrible but because it disappointed me most from all shows I’ve watched recently. I’m sure there are others shows on my list I’d rate lower now as I’ve watched a lot more shows since then. I liked half of HL- the other half only got worse and never better. That’s my opinion. This show doesn’t deserve the rating it has currently. Popularity doesn’t mean a show is good. I’m sure most of the people rating this really high are very young people who just want to see pretty people and lots of romance.
I know you’re trying to address the issues I had about the show, but my point is that we’re not shown any of these things - it might have been explained in the source material, but this is a drama which requires a different approach. It’s a different medium. Unless you’re a fan, people aren’t going to watch this after reading the novel.
Sang Zhi always says she’s an adult but there’s very little to show that. She took care of Jiaxu- that was literally one example. In my opinion she doesn’t seem like an adult anywhere else.
I’ve heard CZY saying that’s where DJX fell in love, but having feelings and jumping on to straight on wooing her right after was extremely rushed. If he has trauma it’s never shown. We only know he doesn’t drink. That’s it. The show made a bizarre decision of showing his father and mother’s situations somewhere at the middle of the show, like it’s supposed to be a big reveal. A better way of doing a story like this is to show your characters act and react in certain ways. It doesn’t do that.
If this show had been 15 episodes long, it jumping into a relationship that fast would have been acceptable due to lack of time. For a 25 episode show, there’s a lot more that could have been done to build a case for the relationship to blossom. Again the way the show did the story, you don’t know the characters well enough in the second half to really care about them. We are shown that SZ and DJX are working or studying but what are they passionate about? What drives them? They cannot only be passionate about each other. To be compelling characters, they need to have something outside each other to be passionate about too.
The other things like her baby voice - it continues to her “adulthood” and in my opinion it wasn’t any different from her 17 year version. As people have also pointed out elsewhere, the 14 year old version of her seems more mature in many ways. So yes, I think both actors and both versions weren’t in sync with each other.
As for the child actress - she’s not a teen. She’s 10 and she looks like she’s that age. She looks nothing like a 14 year old. I don’t think there was any indication of a relationship or anything creepy when she was that age, but for a drama treading a thin line, casting such a young actress and keeping CZY the same doesn’t come across too well. Then in the later (end episodes) the scenes that happened when she was 14 are referred to by DJX when he’s in a relationship with SZ. It’s just weird. They might have cast ZLS as the 14 year old version of herself instead.
Again what the manhua or audiobook does is a different thing. Not everyone watching this show will know those. As a drama it needs to do things a bit differently since it’s a different medium. It has to tell a story through its visual language. It doesn’t do that well.
If you read my review, you can see I said I liked the first 9 episodes. I wasn’t interested in the show initially - trailers of romance cdramas are rarely interesting. However I gave it a shot and actually liked it - I liked it the most for 9 episodes and then from 15 onwards it went totally downhill for me. So I disagree - I didn’t go in with expectations. It’s just that the first half of this drama and the second half are quite radically different in the way the story is told. I know people like the lovey dovey stuff that this drama is full of from ep 15 onwards, but in my opinion, there’s no depth to anything that happens later. There are some good scenes - but those are super rare (after ep 15).
I compared this to Reply 1988 not because they’re similar in terms of story. This is because people in the comments on this page think that the people who don’t like this drama can’t appreciate stories that are simple and where nothing grand happens. Reply 1988 is a simple story - nothing major happens in it. However it makes you care for characters - ALL of the characters (even the parents of the friends). You know how who the characters are and how they act. HL is 25 episodes and we don’t even know DJX and SZ well enough. The supporting characters are just there to circle the main leads. They have no stories of their own that we are invested in. This is why I liked the first 9 episodes. At least the supporting characters got some time outside the leads. That is good storytelling. When you have a drama this long, you HAVE to have compelling side characters. That’s what I believe.
Thank you. Finally someone mentioned the most important point that the drama missed. They literally forgot to tell…
Me too- I wish they’d spent longer fleshing out the falling in love process. The getting into a relationship bit is so rushed that you get no time to root for them as a couple. Hence I felt nothing for the relationship
I just made a comment that summarized this. We see no genuine intelligent conversation between the leads. The…
Totally- agreed. He gave her good advice when she was younger. I don’t know how their characters felt totally different when they got into a relationship 🤷♀️. They literally talk about nothing significant or meaningful when she’s an “adult”.
Absolutely agree with you. A poor casting decision on the young FL that lent a creepy tone to the drama. Yet,…
Yup totally. It seems like it was written by someone who has extremely little experience of life. That’s why the childhood bits were at least more realistic than everything that happened when she was a “grown up” and in a relationship
Also I’ve seen ZLS on multiple shows where she’s used her own voice. She doesn’t sound THIS way. Her voice isn’t even the main issue as much as her acting like she’s 13.
