Agreed. I don't know how he's compared to Mei Changsu. I don't see it at all. I also don't see how this is similar to Nirvana in Fire apart from the ML being ill.

I had a problem with the love story of the leads. I couldn't connect to their love story at all and felt like Zuo Cingci fell in love with Su Yun Luo all of a sudden based on such an insignificant meeting in their childhood. The first half was all about how totally nuts he was about her and she was hellbent on saving her master. Not to mention the lack of trust between them. I much preferred the third couple - Changge and Jiang'er. Si Yuan and Man Qing's love story was alright. Anyway my problem was too much focus on the love stories that weren't very well developed anyway. The court politics was even less convincing. I of course liked parts of the show, but it didn't stay with me overall. I have to say I love the soundtrack of this show though.

Finished the show. Overall, thoroughly enjoyable and not an extremely heavy watch. I stumbled upon this show quite accidentally before it gained more recognition and I'm glad to have started watching it that early. Missed Fed during the last episodes, but I hope he will be back for the next season.

I didn't like Xijun initially - she was too one-note, always crying and threatening to kill herself if her father didn't allow her to marry her fiancé. It was very annoying. Thankfully she grew from that phase. I often just ignore how she was at the beginning, because it definitely doesn't match how she is later. Not a consistent character by any means. As for Yingtao - she's largely alright, but the love angle with SWM is annoying (I'm on ep 32 and nothing has really happened with them so I don't know if anything happens later), but just the implication of them as a couple is a bit nauseating. It doesn't make much sense. The rest of the characters are fun. I love SWM, LLF and Fed. Xue Huan is also cute.

26 episodes in. Enjoying this drama but have not been a fan of Yingtao being incorporated into the gang, particularly as SWM’s love interest. SWM appeared to be aromantic. They could’ve just kept it that way

Yup that was putting me off big time too. I am only on episode 14 so hopefully they’ve kept her a sane character even afterwards

I asked the same question earlier on because she was annoying at the start for several episodes. She has progressed as a character. She no longer fawns over Lu Lingfeng all the time but is actively helping solve cases. So I definitely think she’s become more of an interesting and believable character now.

I started out not caring too much for her character. I found her rather simplistic in the way she was written. However, I’ve warmed up to her more now. She’s showing her intelligence and she’s become a part of the crew. I like the whole team.

Really enjoying this show so far. 11 episodes in and it’s very engaging and the characters are interesting. For those of you that have watched ahead, does it remain just as interesting?

I am really enjoying this show, but someone tell me, does the female lead (Xijun) remain this one note character looking for her fiance, or does she have something else interesting about her character? She was described as intelligent, but I don't see it so far 5 episodes in

You don’t need to watch Part 1 to watch Part 2 and vice versa. It’s kind of like that they’re set in the same universe, but characters are different. There are a few references to NIF 1 in NIF 2, but not to the extent where you won’t understand what’s happening.

I rolled my eyes sooooo many times reading your posts. It’s one thing to not like a show but you’re basically a ZLS anti. What promiscuity are you talking about and you definitely didn’t watch the show. Seriously- go spew your hatred elsewhere. This is getting tiresome

It starts to change after episode 15 and that’s when it really takes off. For me, ep 15 was the turning point. Until then I didn’t really have much of an opinion about it. And by ep 26, it really becomes incredible. It’s got a slow start and it feels like these initial episodes are wasting your time. But they’re not- you’ll see that they form the basis of your attachment to characters and places later on. I would recommend giving it a shot at least until ep 16 and seeing how you feel about it.

I think it’s implied that they will make up at some point. I mean they do share a nephew and although Lotus Pier is no longer Wei Ying’s home and things between Jiang Cheng and him will never be the same since they’ve both lost too much, there’s still a lot of love between the two.

That’s a hard question to answer. I thought the story got much better towards the middle of the show - somewhere around episodes 23ish to 40 something. The first 20 or so episodes were kinda very slow
