This was my first Xianxia drama and i literally hated it. The ML here is someone smart when confronting any other situation except when it comes to the FL. He has a martyr complex and the intensity of his feelings seemed more like obsession than love. I never understood why he had those feelings for someone like the FL! Now comes the biggest issue i had with the drama, the freaking FL! She was UNBEARABLE. Stupid, clumsy, weak (mentally), easy etc are the definitive characteristics of her character and she never changes until 50+ episodes. When she does change, it seems undeserving and literally made up. I couldn't bear her on the screen. The actress didn't help the situation either because the main actor (ML) was leagues above her.
This drama sells the terribly unrealistic ML and literally the worst FL i have ever seen. It depicts the obsession of ML with the FL (for no reason) and glorifies his unhealthy obsession. He knows nothing about loving himself and i wouldn't in hell believe that it makes sense to love someone else before loving yourself. It sells a FL who's terrible just to balance out the selflessness of the syndromic ML. She is just there to be manipulated and loved by people for no reason at all. She is shown powerful (physically) but is actually weak (psychologically) to the extent that you just can't believe her prowess at all. So there it is; a painfully selfless obsessive ML and the most undeserving and weak FL (characterization wise) ever. It sells unrealistic feelings of ML for a literal terrible FL and calls it romance. Looking at the ratings, people actually bought that! Like what! Maybe abusive (FL), unhealthy, obsessive, unidirectional, unrealistic (ML) and self sacrificial (ML) relationships are a thing now.
Idk if it's my first Xianxia drama or what but it was a knee between the legs. This is the only drama where i was hoping for a sad ending. I wanted everyone to just die (maybe except the ML) or live separately on their own.
Just Kim Seon Ho getting a nomination at baeksang out of all the startup cast shows he carried the whole drama…
Actually no. He is a good actor and performed very well in this drama. There's no doubt about that but actually saying that he was the only one good is kind of wrong. NJH and BS acted the hell out of their characters. Their characters maybe weren't as likeable as HJP but their acting was top notch by every standard. Besides Baeksung is kind of a big deal and even being very good would not get someone a nomination. NJH was very good but the actors nominated in the "best actor" category were better. I mean it requires "being brilliant" to beat the kinds of KSH, SJK, SHK, LJG and UKJ and the performances they pulled off. NJH didn't pull the brilliance with the effect that they did but he was none the less very good in the drama. He did the best with what the character required him to do.
Worst case of good to mediocre. The drama started out good with interesting characters but it goes down hill so fast. The start of the drama introduces us to a strong, ambitious and talented FL who's somehow innocent too. The ML (only consistent character throughout the drama) is someone in the position of power, is intelligent and actually knows how to treat a girl. He treats the FL with care and affection while actually being mature and understanding at the same time. What the problem here is that the writer decides to throw out the likeability and character development of the FL out the window in the last 6 episodes for the sake of longitivity of drama. She is so no-no for the ML and actually becomes a stupid teenager who doesn't know how to respect a partner and protect herself. She actually choses a stranger's pain over her fiancé's just because the person (who's so visibly manipulating her) sheds a few tears. She then menages to lie to her fiance about his brother (the one manipulating her), who the ML warns her about (for very good reasons), and then actually gets drunk with him to the point where the brother had to carry her in his arms to the ML. All this happens after she promised the ML twice that she would not meet with his brother. After being caught, she does everything to worsen the situations she herself created and when things doesn't get resolved magically (which she somehow expects for no good reason!), she throws tantrums and starts to manipulate the ML intead of taking accountability and apologising. Her favourite line to throw in these situations is the manipulative one of "i thought you trusted me" while breaking every thing trust is supposed to be about. She lies and betrays his trust and starts manipulating the situation by guilt tripping him by crying and blaming his lack of trust (when he has every reason to think what he thinks). That's unfortunately very off putting and i dragged myself to finish this mess. Can anyone recommend me a drama where the FL is actually smart (while considerate) and not stupid, naive and weak? The dramas i have been watching are kind of frustrating because the FLs are so clumsy and weak to the point where i actually ship the SFL (most of the times evil) with the ML!
At last episode ML Mom, " It was all a test"I was like " What the f**k bitch"
I hate to be that person but i actually agreed with his mother (not the money part but the fact the the FL was very much mismatched to our ML). The ML was just too much for her, someone she neither could match nor lead a life while not being his weakness that's so easy to exploit. She acted like a spoiled teenager in the last 6 episodes. If his brother could exploit her with a few tears, i don't know what an ambitious opposition of the ML could do. I actually thought that Li Man was a superior match to the ML than the FL.
You know what's sad; the low ratings of this very well written and beautifully directed drama is beyond me. I mean it has everything mixed together in a very beautifully and satisfying way and most normal people can find something relatable. It deserves a 5%+ viewers rating at the least.
This is awful to an extent i couldn't even think was possible. A 5 year old would come up with a better story than this shit. I have watched a lot of bad dramas but this is literally unbearable.
I'm happy with the nominations except they didn't nominate Moon Chae-won, who should have been nominated. That being said, can we just be happy that we got two new immensely talented actors; Song Kand and Lee Do-hyun! They are the future stars and i more than happy to witness their journeys.
The media painted it in a way where Ye Ji got most of the hate when in fact, it was supposedly the other way around.…
There's proof of SYJ texting him to not touch or kiss the FL and remove scenes from the script while there none of KJH saying that. Her agency's response doesn't hold any wait as they never said anything with factual data. I think it illogical to assume that he did so first without any actual proof.
Well Oh Jung-se in IONTBO and Kim Ji-hoon in FOE outperformed him in every aspect. He does deserve the nomination…
Well yeah OJS kind of outperformed every single one of them but i have this bias for evil roles actors portray after watching the film "The Shinning". Nomination in itself is kind of a big achievement. KSH has a long road ahead and I'm sure he'll get even better achievements. Fingers crossed for OJS to win because i loved his character!

I liked KSH a lot in start up and i would be delighted if he won but i kind of think the other two deserves it more (if you haven't watched "Flower of evil", i recommend it). KJH was an absolute revelation in that. I was both terrified and fascinated by his portrayal.
I really want him to win Best Supporting Actor award but the competition is way too tough.

The episode 16 VC reminds me of Benicio del Toro's character "Alejendaro" from the film Sicario. The paralysed (emotionally) facials and the brutality he carries out so effortlessly is something that comes by very rarely. He's not a psychopath or anything near that, he's a person pushed by situations to be what he is now. He is controlling his emotional state because he knows it can't help him. He can feel emotions but won't show it because his goals require so. It just shows as to what a normal person can become if situations and people push enough. I think that's scarce in the kdrama land.
Did they just kill his mother! The woman VC missed and wished to be in his life for the last 30 years! Like what the f*ck! She led a miserable life; a victim of rape, a mother who had to stay away from her son, a person who spent years in jail without any crime of her own and a patient of cancer. VC like his mom has been living a life of crime devoid of any comfort or happiness. A man who lacked everything he wished for most of his life; his mother, a family and happiness. Now when the mother and son finally met and were beginning to be what they were supposed to be (a family), the f*cking CMH and JHS just killed her without any reason other than the stupidest move to push VC over the edge; something they should've known would lead them to death or severe suffering! Like can they atleast be villians i would be scared of or be impressed by and not the ones i would kill myself if i could get my hands on them, all the time! I'm so angry agghhh...
It’s not a Korean drama, but Chayenzo really reminds of the main leads from an American crime tv show called…
The mentalist had a completely different tone. It was dark af at times (red jon) and fairly logical but Vincenzo isn't most of the times (I'm not complaining!). I actually like that about Vincenzo but The mentalist was a better show.

Lin yi is the ultimate handsomely handsome man.
