Now I understand why I’m always confused…… as much as it’s got different plots. So for Candle in the Tomb and Daomu Biji BOTH the sidekicks have the same name; Wang Pang Zi! Wot the….. why though…. They even have the same last name….
Haha yea. I would say you need some form of gauge for MDLs ratings I.e Korean dramas alwayssss have higher ratings than C-dramas although they might be similar “level”…
Was reading one of ‘Recent Discussions’ in the NiF page, apparently it takes a while before it becomes really interesting.. like 19-20 episodes.. will see if I can get pass the slow start.

I don’t know, I’m kinda wary about these kinda series without romance, maybe because of the Longest day in Chang An. I think for that it made sense because it was just 24 hrs… but after I watched Longest day in Chang An I just had a “?!?!?” expression.
But the JoL rating I’m looking at is 9.0…. At least on my webpage it is. And NiF rating on my webpage is 9.1

And I’m sorry to say this but when I see 2 Caucasians in the same scene speaking bad English to one another it’s just…… don’t get me wrong… their English could be accented, like the French or Italian but it was so obvious from the drama that it was just pure wrong….. I had no idea where to look and couldn’t listen any further….. I just FF everything…. 🤣🤣🤣
The analogy would be like 2 Chinese Americans speaking Mandarin to one another in really bad Mandarin…. I would FF everything too…
I have to say the dubbing for the Caucasians speaking Mandarin was en-pointe, was believable.
I haven’t…… but is it worth it…? I tried watching the first episode but failed to finish….. I felt (only based on comments on MDL) it was lacking in the romance part…? Without romance at all doesn’t make sense though I don’t think it should be the centrepiece of these kinda dramas…
Will I ever get over this series….. it’s been 3 yrs but I still find this perfect even after numerous rewatches. Nothing is truly a competitor….. well Snow Sword Stride maybe….. at least comparable…. But nah… JoL still trumps… at least for the first season…
Ah… Story of Ming Lan for me but it’s a different genre..
Apparently Nirvana in Fire is also a classic…. Never watched it though…

🙌🏻 I thought Song Hye Kyo was amazing in those two dramas as well! Yea she does kinda pick only certain type of roles. I only realised recently that she doesn’t do any action genres.. This one already sounds kinda different than the usual roles she picks… it’s a thriller…. 🤔
Think Jun Ji-Hyun has done well in terms of picking dramas/movies/roles, well it’s definitely more diversified.

Was excited to watch this thinking the martial arts lady in white was the FL but dropped it in the 2nd episode…
Martial arts lady in white…… is really captivating on-screen. That’s for sure. Lol. I agree wrt the FL but I don’t think she’s bad in acting per se…. Just regardless of how well she can act it will be superb difficult for her to pull off this role.
To begin with she is really too petite, which would have been fine if she had different facial features…. Her face is really very angelic though… not cute but like her features are so clean…. So to me she doesn’t resemble a servant neither does she resemble a fallen princess….. she reminds me of a high school student here 🤣 I can’t quite relate to her relationship with the ML. It would have been fine if she purely just had a weird relationship with the ML which is never explored until the end…. But she’s the FL…
So more than anything I think it’s the on-screen visuals which is something K-dramas shine at, they focus on the most minute details….. Maybe if the FL here had a different wardrobe, make-up etc… I don’t know…
Give this drama a chance, it’s really very good. I personally think it still isn’t as good as Joy of Life but it totally deserved the 8.7 score.

Yea. It’s nothing to do with her acting skills or anything like that. She isn’t exactly annoying either (luckily her voice isn’t like superbly girly or high-pitched)…… just she neither suits the role nor does she have amazing chemistry with the ML.
I don’t know if you’ve watched Ever Night…. the FL there has the same issue, but I felt the FL there was way worse…. Like just on-screen she looked superb wrong paired with the ML unless she was purely just a servant. Here it’s still a pass…. Just not great, which is kinda a waste coz nearly the entire cast was amazing.
There are so many significant female roles in this series and they played it perfectly, even Qing Niao… and the annoying girl with the cat (I can totally imagine her like that in real-life 🤣)
