The trailer looks interesting, so I've added it to my list. Reminds me a lot of UN.
It should be related to Mojin XiaoWei/ Candle in the Tomb… coz the trailer mentioned the 4 factions of Candle in the Tomb…. Mojin is the direct “competitor” to the Daomu Biji novels (the novels UN is based on).
Has anyone read the novel this drama is based on? I would like to read it/buy it if it is translated. Does anyone…
I read it. Forget about it. It was horrendous. The FL was super duper annoying in the novel. She was always crying, fainting or both….. like alllllll the time. The TV series made the better out of it honestly, was a way improved version.
One of the most icky part of this drama is the incestuous relationship that exists in the royal family. A’wu’s…
Not sure if I’m being accurate here but my Indian friend and colleagues actually told me that cousins marrying one another is still practiced today in their culture albeit less common.
Currently on ep 22 and I have a quick question….Do the main leads ever spend more then 3 mins per episode together??
Lol. I laughed when I read your post… I’ve never actually counted though I’ve rewatched this multiple times…. Perhaps not much… I think there are maybe only a handful of times?
This is one of the major “complaint” I’ve seen on MDL wrt this series (to be fair the situation was way worse in the original novel, they were hardly together). But I really found their chemistry and the love between the leads uber strong though. And this is the first time I’ve watched Zhou Yi Wei on-screen. Like they are so cute, I’m definitely in awe.
I don’t know how this drama is going to progress, read loadsa complaints that it’s too long with editing issues…
Edit: this drama has really good fight choreography! Visually stunning and really engaging. Everything else is………… hurm… yea. I can totally see it scoring 8.1. It’s good (like the main concept, outline and plot is actually a very good storyline/idea) but there are loadsa finer issues which often occurs with sucha big budget production and so many episodes. Can imagine a lot of disappointment.
Have to say the actor playing the emperor is really =.= …. Why didn’t they cast a better actor for this complex role… he is the most one-dimensional Chinese emperor I’ve ever seen. He was an angrybird the entire series and nothing else; epic fail. The casting for this drama isn’t great to begin with. The 2 leads and 7th prince, fine… not bad. Gong Jun amongst few others were alright. But the rest….. I.e wth is wrong with the 9th prince?!?! He was pretty bad, seems like a pretty green actor from his expressions/acting skills but he plays an important role. The Crown Prince was also =.= at least half the cast was questionable/lost/dreaming/ just down right quite bad….
BUT 1/3 into the series and it’s still really engaging/interesting! Will revert with the ending.
Edit: Waaaayyyyyy too long. The plot isn’t gripping enough, ended up FF-ing to finish it. Also the dubbing is kinda weird… feels like it’s old tech kinda dubbing. Think this would have been great if it were 30-40 episodes with better screenwriting. What a waste.
I don’t know how this drama is going to progress, read loadsa complaints that it’s too long with editing issues and I spse that is partially why the rating is relatively low, but I just got to say the fight scene in Episode 2 is super cool, and I’ve watched many fight scenes… Lol.
can't believe I've only watched this 1x... now rewatching has reminded me how badass William Chan is in it!!!…
I’m here because of William Chan, I’m not really a fan of his (he totally isn’t my type) BUT I was super surprised to watch him in Mystic Nine. He can actually act, and he can act well! Uber surprised. I haven’t watched him in anything else since so I don’t know if it’s just a fluke or coincidence…. I’m here to find out. 🤣 hopefully this is good. Super surprised to find Gong Jun in this series as well.
NOOOOOOOO, whyyy the ending .. NOOOOgave it a 9, but now giving it a 7 for the dumb ending.should have just let…
The ending was really weird… they wrapped up and closed everything but…. I wanted to say the storyline was a tad ridiculous, but it isn’t exactly that, it just came out super odd……. And it wasn’t related to bad editing or cliffhangers…. It was still reasonable… but it was just pure odd and unsatisfying…. I can’t pinpoint to specifics…. I wonder if anyone can articulate why.
Why the heck I’m struggling to watch this drama !!! I like the cast and the plot though.I’m really having…
Lol. I liked the plot initially too, like at the very start but trust me when I say it went superb crazy after that and it left me “?!?!?” after it ended. So I wouldn’t say you are missing out that much if you didn’t watch it.
How did I not know this drama existed until today?! Did it go completely under the radar or was I living under…
Haha, kinda the same here. I’ve marked this as plan to watch for the longest time and have procrastinated just because of the first 15 mins of the 1st episode. Somehow couldn’t focus while watching so I stopped. So glad I finally picked this up again, it was a 8.5-9 for me.
This was super refreshing, highly highly recommend!! Totally Men-In-Black style… defo a Ghostbusters+MIB+Marvel…
Only issue for me was the romance bit between the main couple (and there was a lot of screen time), both leads were good actors but I found them a bit annoying together. Like the chemistry was a bit off somehow. I think because of how they physically look which I found totally incompatible or maybe the oddness in physical chemistry? There was just this weird vibe.. but it wasn’t fair to lower the score because of it. They were a great pair as kick-ass partners but I wince every time they come on screen as lovers, had to skip all their scenes esp towards the end. But this is likely due to my own personal taste/preference.

Btw this is corresponding to your comment on watching Untamed.

I remembered only Raymond Lam’s acting was kinda off and wasn’t great… luckily his face suits the role. Lol.
So I wouldn’t say you are missing out that much if you didn’t watch it.
This series was defo a solid 8.5 if not a 9.
