The word 'second wife' needs to be cleared up a bit imo.

Lin family is not royal family. So, there is no 'Secondary Wife/Consort' rank like royal family does. For them, it's one principal wife, and then concubines and Tongfangs.

On the other hand, a 'Second Wife / Successor Wife' is a principal wife whom the husband marries after the first wife has passed away or divorced. She holds the exact same legal status as the first wife—she just chronologically comes second. This is what Lanxiang will eventually become.

ngl, Zhao Xing Tang was written and acted so well. In the span of just two episodes, we saw her plight, curelty, and indifference. I felt both sympathy and unease toward her. I like it when the support characters are not one dimensional.
