As a novel reader I'd say this drama adaptation is 85% fan fiction. I'll try to enjoy it for what it is, but I'm…
I loved the novel as well. But, I'm also excited that we are getting properly fleshed out replacement plots and characters in the drama.

Imo, it's being handled way better than those half baked adaptations which try to stick to the main events of the novel while removing the intricate details to fit into limited episode count, leaving the drama flows unaturally and plots not properly fleshed out.

It's a shame we won't be seeing some of the characters, but I can live with that if the quality of the drama remains like this till the end.

Title The First Jasmine Spoiler
I've seen some clips of YL being blind, does anyone knows what happens? I'm also dying to know why MXY gets white…
I think that plot makes it to the drama. Need to recheck past clips though.

Not explicitly shown yet, but the crumbs so far lead to that assumption.

Watched 2 episodes. And i would say by first impression i think i had too much expectations from this drama. Not…
Ep 4-5 is where the story set its tone and direction clearly.

So far, the strongest aspect of this drama is the character depths. If that looks like something you might enjoy, give it a few more episodes. For me, I'm totally hooked to the developments of both main leads.

Title The First Jasmine Spoiler
So from what I’ve gathered, YeLi is somewhat the sole survivor of a massacre at Lishan Academy and is therefore…
Exactly. The fact that she's aware enough to weave cover up tales and take active actions, while also having a coping mechanism going on is quite intriguing.

Also, it's quite hard to get a read on how much of her we are seeing at any given moment is truth, lies, or something even herself is not aware due to trauma.

This Li Shan mountain plot is drama original. Totally different from the novel.

Ep 7 finished. Gosh, it was so good. She's teetering between two extremes, one moment she's strong, rational, bright and sunny, and then there are her vulnerable moments which look like she might collapse any moment.

When I said I was looking forward to this drama, a psychologically complex Ye Li with all those mysteries was not on my bingo card. I was only expecting a slightly altered version of the novel at most. Such a surprise from the drama truly.

ok. now i wanna read the novel so bad. i have no plans of reading it in the 1st place coz i dont wanna compare…
Drama is sooo different from the novel. Especially Ye Li. Her revenge schemes, Lin Shan mountain mystery, her abnormal psychological states... all are drama originals.

Novel itself is a good read, so you will be entertained. Just keep the above in mind while reading.

"Ye Li, you must remember the dignity your father sees fit to grant you today."

What a banger dialogue. This should be the go to response for all those terrible cdrama parents lol. You are awesome 3rd uncle!

Very very different. Almost entirely 2 different stories.
Character relations are largely the same.

But there is no revenge stuff from Ye Li, and she is not such an enigmatic person in the novel.

Also, they basically skipped their entire pre-marriage arc.

I guess there will be more differences as the drama continue as well given the plot until ep5.

I love the novel.

But, I seriously love how the writer arranged things around for the drama. To me, if a show makes me want to know more and more about the characters as the story progress, that's the mark of a good story. This drama is doing exactly that!

Ye Li is such an enigma. We have been shown a lot in the first 5 episodes, but there's still so many more about her we feel we have yet to learn.

Mo Xiuyao is 'broken' broken, trapped in the past. I'm so happy to get a male lead who can be emotional like a human.

So far, this is totally worth the wait! I'm looking forward to the rest of the story.

Han dynasty
Warring state, Qin and Han dynasties are right next to each other so I often have a tough time distinguishing them. 😄

warring state if i am not wrong cause the clothes match the warring state time
I think you are right. I just checked the seal script shown in the drama. It's the style dominant in Warring State era and Qin Dynasty.

Which era the story is set in? Warring state / Han dynasty? With the royal costumes leaning for darker aesthetics, I assume around that era?

Ep1 finished. Even though I can understand why she said what she said right after rebirth, I was like "Why are you blurting out your biggest assest to that snake, at ep1 to boot!?" lol
