Well, we've only seen 4 out of 36 episodes. Let the story cook for now. They are already out on the road together by ep 4 which can be considered pretty fast. It's not too late to complain about the screentime if it remains imbalanced by half way of the story.

Oh, I just noticed while reading this novel. It's from the same author of Jiu Chong Zi (Blossom drama's novel). Jiu Chong Zi was a good read, I think I'll enjoy reading this one as well.

In her case, she was kind of coaxed/lied into it. Do you remember the dialogue where she was explaining about how the grandmother gave her one false hope after another over many years?

In order to prevent any mishaps, she was mostly kept isolated within the inner courtyard.

It's bestowed by the Emperor (government) to the widow who refuse to remarry after their husband passed away, hence they are significant. It signifies the virtue of the widow and her family.

As it brings so much social prestige, some are forced into it by the husband's family just like in this drama.

There are 3 such arches belonged to the Fu family, which means there are 3 widows who earned it by refusing to remarry and staying loyal to their respective husbands. The crazy lady in the drama was in the process of earning a 4th one, which is why she brought such leverage to the table.
(She seems to be lied/coaxed/forced into it, so the extreme isolation is starting to get to her, which also explains her mental state.)

Ep 4 - Not when I started the episode with a full spread of dinner. 😅

I've been mostly rewatching older dramas these days, and having fights in viki comments. Somehow it's bringing me more entertainment. lmao

Yes, pretty good so far. Compelling premise as well. We got a salt smuggler and a young lady from an official family as the leads.

The tempo is fast as well, so doesn't take long to grab you in. Give it a try for 1-2 episodes.

The pilot episodes were just so good, which prompted me to immediately pick up the novel.

Also, I was finding the FL looks so famaliar and it's actually the reunion of the Melody of the Golden Age couple! Her acting improves compared to before as well.

Compelling story setup and beautifully shot as well. And I know I can expect top tier delivery from Wen Zheng Rong. The rest of the supporting cast looks great as well. I'm looking forward to the next episodes.

That's exactly what it is. She's just so bitter with her life that she was finding an outlet, and FL was that target.

Ep 11-12: Even the universe is turning against him, poor Shen Fuxuan. 😅

That's been one of the features users has been asking to MDL - better rating system for airing dramas.

It's becoming a trend, especially recent years, to review bomb the unaired episodes. So, fans of the drama counteract it by rating them as well. It's a vicious cycle.

Gosh, loved both ep7 and 8 so much. Loved how laid back, effortlessly funny, and pulling at your heart strings all at the same time. Love this sibling so much <3

Ep 7 was such a fun episode, 1 hr flew by without even noticing. <3

imo, if done right, there is nothing wrong with using a childhood connection trope. If it's thrown in just for the sake of ticking a checklist, then it's a different story.

However, it's quite relevant in this drama because it helps build Lin Zhixia's character and her fixation on Jiang Yubai.

If you are into coming of age stories, this is a good one so far. Haters plus lower viewers on MDL can skew the rating a lot.

Finished ep 6. This drama really hit home with me. For me, this is a needed break from all those recent high tempo dramas. I'm loving it's relaxed pace.

There are a lot of things I'm looking forward to in the coming episodes, not just the relationship between the main leads. The relationship between the different pairs of parents and children, siblings, and friendships. And of course, how Zhixia will grow.

Also, props to Tian Xiwei for her spot on delivery. I totally felt Zhixia's loneliness and frustrations, and cried along with her.

The drama briefly mentioned about a fallen state in one of the earlier episodes. So, I guess that plot makes it into the drama.
