I don't watch previews, so it's a bit more bearable for me in that sense. 😂

We are back to 2ep/day on Thursday... so it's not that bad compared to a full week of 1ep/day milking like some other shows I guess 🥲

ah... the moment we are dreading has arrived....

One of the reasons why I like this drama is that the characters make mistakes. It's tough to swallow if the characters we are rooting for aren't making perfect decisions, but that makes it more human.

I'm sure you've seen or read something along this line before in cdrama and novels:
"Merit offsets the crime."
"To use one's merits to compensate for one's faults."

That's the case here. And it's historically accurate as well. People could mitigate their punishment by performing meritorious service, sacrificing one's rank, etc.

It happens with majority of adaptations, especially with ensemble stories because drama simply doesn't have enough space for all the characters. As long as the narrative holds up within the drama's story, it's fine for me.

Zhi Zhi (author of the novel) tends to write this kind of story. Blossom (another of her novel) adapation also removed like 50-60% of characters from the novel. Even some major characters in the novel were killed off in the drama because drama doesn't have space for those characters' stories.

Totally agreed about Zuo... I ended up with so many mixed feelings about her. Her ending is truly apt for someone in her circumstances as well.

Also, I totally didn't expect ZL to really off that guy. That was truly a surprise tbh.

I'm watching on WeTV, with express. Ep14 should be up in other places a couple hours from now.

After finishing ep 14, I ended up with a lot of mixed feelings about this character....

A well written character imo.

OMG, literal chill! This is soooo good! 💯

General Mo's concubine. The one Madam Mo hates.

Madam Yu tricked the maid into thinking she got a chance to become his bedwarming maid or concubine.

So, when Fan Yake asked her to embroider a pouch for Yu Jingxiu, she deliberately made it different, to become noticed by Yu Jingxiu.

Basically, Madam Yu is toying with Fan Yake to become isolated without any support inside Yu mansion. Yu Jingxiu knew, so went to his mom for leniency.

She played FL's (Ancy Deng) mother in Melody of Golden Age (if you've watched it before). This drama is their reunion.

And ML's stepmom in Joy of Life, etc. She played in a lot of notable support roles.

Both the quality of the drama and acting of the leads are much better here.

But, if you like this pairing, you can try Melody of Golden Age as well. Not my favorite, but it's a cute drama.

Ep 13 - I just threw out my sliver of understanding toward Madam Zuo out of the window. This woman is just vile, twisted, and beyond salvation. 😑
