The story is a bit to the slice of life-ish side with some really good actions here and there, so it might feel slow to some audience. I'm having a blast with this drama though.

May be this is just not your cup of tea. That's totally fine. MR is slightly slow-ish and understandably it's not for everyone. I also had to take a break from the 2 shows you mentioned because they were not just working out for me.

I haven't watched In Between yet, as I watch costume drama mostly. How is it?

Drama rating was low even before the case, thanks to haters downvoting the crap out of it.

Pei Jerk knew MZY as someone Wu Zhen likes, a love rival, as we were shown his spy sending him message about Wu Zhen's love talk. His main motive seems to be something his master asked him to do. I guess something to do with doing bad stuffs in Chang'an.

So far, there's no indication of him in the knowledge of it. I hope he doesn't and get a big surprise later.

I assume he's already somewhat possessed by that point given we were shown his maniac state right after it.

But, I agree he's a gullible idiot. lol

I've been anticipating her being in different roles from the usual bubbly characters and this is it! Was afraid she would be typecast to dead.

Also, we are getting to see her as a female general in the upcoming drama Zhu Yu as well. The more the variety, the better! Given she's doing her action scenes very well in MR, my anticipations for Zhu Yu increases ten fold haha.

I really love how she pulled it off in a subtle way without being cheesy and over the top.

I'm talking for the action aspect mostly. Fan Changyu spends a good portion of the story in either a battle or action scenes in Zhu Yu. We didn't have any precedent to draw upon regarding how she'll perform in such action heavy roles, and her role in MR is like the closest one so far.

They are already having marriage talk in ep 20-21 trailers. So, the reveal won't be too far I hope.

The rest I won't comment. But, slow burn romance shouldn't be a criticism, but a matter of personal preference.

As for me, I find the romance story where leads get together too fast without sufficient build up boring, unless the plot was focused on the events after the leads get together.

I actually really like how it went down. A person's core doesn't change that easily, and there must be a reason why he was locked up in prison. It would have been stranger if he becomes righteous and a good guy that easily after meeting with Mei Si.
