Like who you like and watch who you want to watch the show for, but the FML is definitely not dumb. Isn’t she…
But she doesn’t have zero observation skills. There’s the scene with her noticing something off about Zhao Sese while they’re playing cards. And the examples mentioned before that show she does have observational skills. She’s just not a schemer so she won’t automatically jump to scheming. For the coin case, she has only observed. LCY escalated her into the situation to earn exploits for himself but didn’t fully explain the situation making it dangerous. It’s rookie stuff to know you either debrief someone fully before bringing them onboard or you safeguard against or for them if you don’t. He didn’t do either so things ended up like they did. She’s still relatively new to Li Chao at that point and has spent some of that time ill. And if she didn’t understand her responsibilities, would she have married LCY? She clearly didn’t want to but understood she had to and she did her best as 16/17 year old girl in a strange language and country pretty much alone, living with an abusive husband. She does begin to learn the ways of Li Chao otherwise how could she participate in planning the wedding with Dowager Empress? She wasn’t brought up in that type of world so there will be a learning curve even if she is willing. And who didn’t she protect? She protected A’du when it was obvious the teacher would punish A’du. She saves A’du’s life. And she saves LCY. Nothing could be done about GJ because his own actions would have led to what happened regardless of what Xiao Feng said or did. And at the end, she protected Xizhou too but did it on her own terms and honoured her own sense pride robbed from her by LCY three years before because he had unrealistic ideas about love. His protection lives in his mouth only. If he was so smart, why is he taking relationship advice from someone who also can’t protect women and has no problems sacrificing them. Shouldn’t he have had the brains to see that the source wasn’t competent? Xiao Feng was always going to be embroiled in complications. Everyone keeps focusing on her going out to play but should she have sat in the palace all day, depressed but demure? A lot of it is escape the miasma of the same complications LCY said he would have protected her from. If he had actually protected her from complicated matters, would things have ended the way they did? He really didn’t protect anything because she was still hurt and he himself ended up hurting her for no reason other than possessiveness towards the end. If he was actually capable, not only would no one have attempted to harm her but he would have taught her the ropes. Instead he kept her in the dark due to his own vanity, dismissal of her, and desire to keep her “pure” for his own enjoyment. Even the dowager empress tells him he should not underestimate Xiao Feng but it’s too late by then.
The show is fine, but the FL's character is just too dumb that it's frustrating. Even if she lost her memories…
Like who you like and watch who you want to watch the show for, but the FML is definitely not dumb. Isn’t she the one who discovers the issue with the counterfeit coins in the first place? She also figured out the scam with the turtles at the festival. And outsmarted LCY at the gate to Xizhou. She just doesn’t want to engage in the pettiness or evilness of court politics, and believes that she should have freedom. Dunno why this would bring contempt… It feels more noble than a prince who has to suck the blood of women from start to finish to get to the top. And what are these responsibilities that everyone keeps griping about? 😅 Being a vase? Being a doormat for a man who abuses her? Bearing children for a dude with several women? What’s so noble about that?😅 Better sis lives her life as she wants because what did all those womanly virtues get the other female characters in the drama? Scammed, dead, and/or discarded. At least Xiao Feng does things on her terms and if it causes trouble to LCY, even better because he’s the one who put the both of them in that situation by being a love brain.
I love being a fan of Xiao Ran because I feel like she honestly tries to bring all of her characters to life. Ling Cangcang feels very promising. The aura she casts in this fan video is really amazing. It feels like it could be a direct shot in a movie. https://m.weibo.cn/detail/5023853338427853
Peng Xiao Ran and Li Xinze🤩So happy to see the MeiSheng couple reunite!! They had such good chemistry in Unshakable Faith so I’m really happy to see them play a loving couple here🥰
It’s a really fun spy catching show for 90% of the drama. It’s done so many rounds on Chinese TV stations,…
There’s been a lot of discussion in China as to why this show did so well with so little marketing and I’ve always found it surprising that no one has brought up the novelty of having a female lead as the spy chaser. Especially one like PHM who is capable, non objectified, yet not so masculine coded, and doesn’t need rescuing by the end. It’s really rare. Add to that cast of various different professional women who also have their own strengths and/or personalities and a fast paced and suspenseful plot and I think you get a really interesting combination.
As to the barrel question. I think it’s a scriptwriters problem. They can create interesting characters but don’t seem so great on the logic behind chasing spies. 😅
Post production is usually one of the weakest points of a Cdrama but it can make or break a drama. With a drama…
The stills are quite nice so I think it will be okay. Yuehong looks okay if not a bit hazy. The key is whether the director knows how to work with SFx and how to direct actors within the green screen. Luckily GJM has a lot of experience in this. Take a look at his Ying Yang Master. It has a lot of SFX and looks okay.
This guy is so handsome. I really like his image. It’s really clean and refreshing. Seeing him in Unshakable Faith, he’s really good looking and a great young actor.

I’ve never heard of VST (I don’t follow film tech very much. Just the art of it) so I can’t tell you about it but they most definitely are using real people so there’s no need to worry about motion capture.
