Maybe I’m just a sentimental old fan but when I think of how Peng Xiao Ran’s two life roles, Xiao Feng and Pang Hongmei, are two very different characters, but both have so much of a sense of life and growth/transformation within their own settings, I really think her possibilities are endless.

Love this Pang Hongmei MV I found. She is such a strong and in control character that I often forgot that she was also an orphan searching for the whereabouts of her father. Peng Xiao Ran really brought her to life. Pang Hongme is so beautiful and so are her micro expressions, especially her tears:

It’s a HE. The romance is subtle so there is no actual “together” point. There’s also no actual love triangle for this reason. Judging from the list of shows you’ve watched before, this may not be your cup of tea if you need explicit romance or lots of romantic scenes.

Considering the successful campaign of getting Unshakable Faith subtitles, I wonder if we can petition Tencent or Youku for this show as well.🤔

Yes, got to love an Actress who constantly challenges themself. I would have never thought she could play such a character like Pang Hongmei if I looked at Xiao Feng but she did and will also continue to surprise me. I think what’s most attractive is that like with cute characters, she rewritten the idea of the strong female lead. It’s not about being a perfect impenetrable fortress but about being competent and capable in career or life and working hard to achieve this.
It was a gamble but I’m glad it paid off well.She now has the top CVB ranking for 90s actresses and is in the top for history as well.
2 episodes got cut so I wonder they contributed to some of the plot holes. Tbh I didn’t notice some of them because I was either eating sugar or trying to figure out who was a spy😂

Romance is not the main theme so it is very subtle. There won’t be any kissing or hugging or anything like that but I think the subtlety really works because it’s believable for the era and for how the two characters (one who seems allergic to romance) work.

I think this line is really beautiful. The show went off the rails a bit for BH but it really came back with this sentence and the image of them under one umbrella. 😌 This show has its flaws but I think their personal story is quite flawlessly told. On its own, it’s absolutely a 10.

As someone who has been hit by a car(probably the equivalent to getting hit by the steel ball) and also fallen from a high place, you can indeed walk away okay, and without lasting effects. Neither character got out of the hospital straight away and one was even in a wheelchair for some time suggesting that it wasn’t an easy recovery. The character who got hit by the steel ball is an ex-soldier and probably in peak health, his recovery time will either be quicker or he will be able to deal with the pain.
Also there are medical studies showing acupuncture may assist with recovery from brain bleeds so…🤷‍♀️

Hopefully now that the show has stopped airing, the downvoting will stop. It’s crazy this show is at a 7.8. Considering what’s come out this year and what MDL has been rating 8s, it’s at least worthy of an 8.

It didn’t have the budget. Seems like no one thought it would do well… which is weird cause it was in the Top Ten for upcoming dramas a few times.

The crew didn’t have a big budget for marketing and because it’s a tribute drama, I think the producers didn’t think it would do well overseas. Fans basically had to message the platforms to ensure we got access and subtitles. Luckily the drama has done well in China. Pang Hongmei is a pretty great character. She’s a strong woman with a sense of contrast and life. She doesn’t fall into the usual stereotypes for bada** women either.
