Stills from Xiao Ran’s appearance on A Good Domestic Product. Catch her tonight at 10pm Beijing Standard Time on Hunan and Mango Satellite TV! https://m.weibo.cn/detail/4934230352331808
Looks like Thrush is finally opening for business! They’ve opened an official Weibo, Super Talk, and TikTok! Don’t know if this means the show is airing soon but at least fans should be getting materials.🎊
THIS SHOW IS A TRAGEDY. I don’t recommend coming to this drama unless you’re prepared to be sad (or angry) af. Tearjerker is literally one of the tags, lol. There’s a reason why this show is upheld as one of classics of BE and while its script is not perfect, it does effectively create a story where the tragedy is not only inevitable, but it makes sense; that’s not an easy feat. GBMP is not a simple story, a light-hearted story, a story with a stereotypical strong female lead, nor a story with a righteous, likeable male lead- if you need one, I suggest looking elsewhere. It is also not a sweet hearted romance either. GBMP is a story of “love” and hate - a dark, crawling tale of entanglement, power, and possession where two people who should never have met, did, and the results are devastating. With everything from the acting, to the costumes, to the music perfectly tailored to support a very brutal but gorgeous end, it’s no wonder that in China this show is often referred to as fishing for bits of sugar out of a pile of broken glass. The “sweet” in this story is ironic so bring your heart accordingly.
I just finished rewatching “Jun Jia Ling”, and realized is the same lead actress of GBMP. I wish some day…
The key to this story is to understand that it’s a tragedy with romantic elements but it’s not a romance. If you like Peng Xiao Ran, this show is definitely worth a watch if you can bear what happens to Xiao Feng because this show was her debut and besides To Our Dreamland of Ice and Snow, also a show where production cared enough to highlight her abilities. You don’t have to root for the ML or even like him- in the book he is the villain anyway but in the drama, due to various reasons behind the scenes, this female oriented story became a male oriented story and tries to make the ML more likeable. Ultimately it’s up to you if you watch it (it is a hard watch) but Xiao Feng is really a great character - her independent spirit despite all that happens to her at such a young age makes her one of my most beloved characters.
It is on a CCTV list to be broadcast at some point.
Is it CCTV? I thought that’s just a list of upcoming dramas in general. CCTV seems to like Xiao Ran enough to post about her upcoming dramas every so often.
Ahhhhh,The sweet episodes are way sweeter on TV because you can see the micro expressions so much better. It’s…
Yeah, I don’t think this a show that really needs “good” kiss scenes. The magic lies in the acting and the ability of the actors to play off each other really well.
For some reason, this drama fully uploaded on YT. I don't know what's Youku decision to make some drama uploaded…
At the time, I think Youku was only uploading dramas they thought would do well with foreign audiences but now I think they have expanded probably to catch more profit. RoaTF and JJL have different stylists but they have the same Director (which is why they look similar).

If you’re asking if they’re making out, then no. They’re the standard pass censorship type except for the end. Most of the kiss scenes are very chaste but sweet in my opinion.
This is a good drama ...DYX was good in his role ..the ppl always need super character and super plot and that…
Yeah, it is a good drama. I just wanted to point out to the naysayers why he may have taken this show on because his side especially was really vocal about this show being a waste both on here and on Weibo, and it was really disrespectful to the work both of them put in.
Congrats to Xiao Ran on completing the filming of The Legend today! In celebration, her staff have dropped some photos of the big beauty: https://m.weibo.cn/detail/4924222370223962
Leaving this here for the haters that said this was a waste of a role for DYX. Apparently this was his first drama on the star and having done RoaTF and it doing ok on a star broadcast, he now has more leverage in future roles.
This drama is good at least give a rate more than that like 8.1 or 8.3 for the honest viewer unlike the other…
It’s okay. MDL doesn’t really count in the scheme of things anyway. Besides the show just finished airing on TV today and it has pretty good grades for a rebroadcast🎊🎊
Censorship and theme though I don’t think they’re dead fish kisses. They also cut some kisses (The kiss under…
It’s not just this show. There’s been a few shows with cut kiss scenes in the last year or so. I think it has to do with a mix of the platform, the producers, and censors. I’m not sure why they cut some kisses in this show. Gui Bai and the Water Lady had a passionate kiss scene and the ending has a long kiss scene for this type of Cdrama though. Maybe it didn’t flow well (the main pair have a pretty innocent romance and some of the other chemistry laden shots have been cut) or it’s possible they needed it to be clean enough to air on TV which I heard has stricter requirements.
I agree completely with you about the hair and makeup.
Honestly some of these stylist need to quit the industry. I’m so tired of looks that drag a show down instead of enhance it. It’s not rocket science for these stylists. At the point this show was shot, I believe that all of the actresses had looks that made them popular. These looks could have been the stylist’s guide if they didn’t have the talent to assess faces for themselves.
