I don’t know the storyline so can’t talk about the character but Ren Min is definitely not a bad actress. She’s known for having acting skills, enough to be cast in a Noon drama, which only takes on good actors. I’ve watched 2 episodes so far and I think she’s fine and I will quit a show on the spot if I don’t like an actress. If there’s any issues, it’s mostly the dub not quite matching.

Oh gotcha. My bad, I thought you meant in general. The problem with xianxia is that it’s often classified as within the idol genre so if actresses with recognised acting skills who are not very young and/or waiting to explode take them on, they can get ridiculed. I think for most actors/actresses, the acting skills begin to solidify in their late 20s/early 30s but the 30s are considered too late in xianxia so it’s always casting too inexperienced performers. There’s also the matter of cost since xianxia are expensive to produce. This usually means they have to use traffic to bring the investment and traffic tends to be younger, more conventional looking, and sometimes with less honed skills. Add tight filming schedules and a lot of directors don’t have the patience or time to guide properly either.
I think Ren Min was a good choice too. She has acting skills which is what matters most and she also looks like a young girl.

This is the first xianxia I’ve felt I could watch in 2023. I love xianxia so I’m so happy. It’s very careful and you can tell production put their hearts into it.😭
I just wish the stylist (hair and makeup) could be a better. If it had been done to suit the performers individual looks, I feel there would be less room for haters.

Gong Li, Zhang Zhiyi, Zhou Xun, Gillian, Nini, Yang Mi, Yang Zi, Peng Xiao Ran, Zhang Jingyi, Song Zuer… There’s tons of beauties with acting skills in C-ent. They often don’t get too much spotlight or they aren’t as well known to foreign audiences.

It’s a Tencent thing thing this year. So many dramas from them have relied only on fans to promote. I think that’s why they released the show now. They can catch the heat from his last drama without spending much.

Actually thinking of giving this a watch for Ren Min. She’s a promising young actress with distinct features.
Her Huirou was very good in looks and acting. As for this show, I haven’t watch it yet but judging from comments, if someone doesn’t look good in a drama, the fault should lay with the stylist; they’re the ones who get paid to ensure a star looks good and a good one considers the features of the star when styling to maximise their advantages and minimise their disadvantages.

Haha, well I can’t be upset even if it is The Legend. The training they put her on has done wonders for her temperament and body posture. I swear her fans jumped from 6.09 yesterday to 6.5 today.

Haha, I think she’s still filming The Legend 😅 but some fans think she possibly has another drama lined up for after she finishes shooting.

Congrats to Xiao Ran for joining the group again!!! Really want to know what training sis has done because her temperament is really exploding lately😩

I agree it’s a tragedy. I actually think it shouldn’t be sold as a romance at all. I feel like if it had been sold as a tragedy, people wouldn’t try to whitewash the male lead or the toxic relationship so much. And the show itself would also have a stronger basis as plot wise, it really doesn’t show how Xiaofeng fell and stayed in love well.

I really wish they would clean up this list😫Most of these are rumored projects. A lot of her shows aired in the last year. She only has two dramas (My Talented Neighbour and Thrush) and one movie (The Legend) left. Hopefully, she will shoot another show soon because it will be heartbreaking if she runs out of stock again.

The webcast really doesn’t do this drama justice at all. The micro expressions are so good, natural, and delicate on TV. JiMan was so furious in Episode 11😂

She does look better. I almost forgave Chen Minzheng for like 2 seconds. I feel like it must have something to do with how TVs display color. It’s always had a license to be a TV show so I suspect they shot with those intentions and decided to ride out the negative comments. It’s kinda amazing though because it’s like watching a completely different show sometimes. I heard ann Korean TV station is airing it on July 4th and even the Douban score is rising bit by bit.

The clips won’t give you enough context. The female lead is only 18 when the story end and in the drama, she is basically groomed by her teacher at 15/16 for the male lead so they could infiltrate the Danchi Camp. By the time she runs away, she’s suffered at least a years’ worth of domestic abuse at the hands of the male lead, the murder of some of her closest people, on top of feeling isolated and homesick since she got to the Central Plains. A lot of people blame her for the latter events of the story but LCY was going to kill GJ anyway regardless of if he was GXW because he didn’t listen to LCY’s orders.
Also, she attempts to kill him on at least two occasions but she’s not the personality type to do it-the core of her personality is kindness. That’s also why she kills herself, because it’s the only way to stop the war brewing between her home country and Central Plains (possibly exacerbated by her actions). It’s clear she doesn’t want to die but that there’s no other way.
This story isn’t a “ love filled with hate -toxic- narcissism-helplessness which makes girls fall in love with a domineering rich powerful cold-hearted gaslighting abusive man ” (LCY isn’t even that type of character and he’s definitely not that type of character when he first seduces Xiao Feng) but a story that shows the terrible realities of grooming and of ancient women and girls in Xiao Feng’s situation. Most of the women in this show are quite miserable tbh. They really don’t have many options.
Part of the problem with the narrative is that this show is based off a novel written from the heroine’s perspective, in which the male lead is the antagonist. The show tried to turn that antagonist male lead into the hero but it really doesn’t work if trying to sell the show as romantic.

Censorship and theme though I don’t think they’re dead fish kisses. They also cut some kisses (The kiss under the tree was actually two successive kisses but cut into one) but even what is left is a gift. Some shows get all their kisses cut.

The ratings continue to rise. It made the Top3 on Maoyan for satellite TV broadcast.
