It’s a shame stars have to deal with this. PXR gets plastic surgery rumors too and it’s awful. Not because there’s anything wrong with plastic surgery but that the marketing accounts prey on women’s insecurities making them think procedures will get them to look like certain stars when that’s rarely the case. I’ve also never understood the AB hate. She seems like a nice person in life. If people don’t like her dramas, just skip them.

It’s strange I actually dislike large age gaps in real life, and initially wasn’t into this show because of the gap. But I think SJFY did a decent job of it by making the big relationship decisions led by Bai Lu. And YXM checking in with her before going along with them. It was also good that YXM saw Bai Lu as someone to train up to be his equal and while he was protective, he wasn’t controlling or smothering like so many male leads. That was quite smart.

I remember American Beauty…. That movie was gross to the max. I can understand misgivings, it’s just the uneven application of outrage that I can’t understand. People were ready to call the police on this show while Chongzi also had older male lead, definitely old enough to be the female lead’s father, with an even younger girl counterpart but didn’t seem to get the level of hate this show got. Maybe it’s visuals though as a poster once said. PXR looks really young and her type of beauty makes people feel protective cause she seems very innocent and cute. That actor in his late 30s has shot at least 2 dramas with actresses in their early 20s but I don’t hear much. But again despite looking older, he doesn’t look “old”.

Haha,
Yes it true that there’s always complaints. It’s just such a shame they cut the last arc. I wanted to see their after marriage arc. From the clips, it looks like Yu Xiuming really doted on Bai Lu and I could eat ten bowls of that.

Haha,
He totally has sugar daddy energy in some scenes😂It’s true you don’t get as many complaints the other way around. I’m not really sure what set people off about this pairing tbh. Chongzi and Hidden Love had big gage gaps but that didn’t seem to hold those shows back as much as it did SJFY.

I think they’re referring to the severe cuts to the drama which affected the quality of the original storyline. Most MDL posters on this wall don’t care about FSF’s personal life nor think poorly of him because of his divorce. There haven’t been many but most complaints about him are more about the age gap between the leads.

It’s worth to watch.
When I went to rewatch it recently, the show seemed different. It seems like they made some edits behind the scenes that weren’t there when the show first aired. It feels a lot more coherent and slightly better edited.

I don’t understand the difference… is each platform doing their own filters? The Amazon Prime version really looks S quality even with the simple costumes. The coloring (except for the super white filters and lack of lighting sometimes) is so gorgeous.
Edit: Apparently Xie Ze mostly shoots for big screens so his works will always look better on TV.

Person Peng Xiao Ran
National Day welfare drop! Xiao Ran is soooo pretty. Hope her filming goes well and that health recovers quickly.https://m.weibo.cn/detail/4952077663994392
I think she changed her team again. The quality has been pretty good lately and it’s been a long time since a vlog.

Not quite. But it does get resolved though. The show is pretty positive so not too many people die.

Title A Legend
Omg Jackie Chan, Lay, Gulnazar, Li Chen and Peng Xiaoran at the same film damn 👏
I’m also excited for Zheng Yecheng. I’m hoping he and Xiao Ran have some rival scenes because they’re both good looking and fantastic artists.

If you knew how much the Chinese audience actively cussed out Xie Ze for this decision… I really don’t understand…
Tbh, the problem with her acting in the beginning, it had her playing Jiman as a silly white sweet when she’s a royal sister type. Add to this Xie Ze’s inability to shoot her and the dubbing that is sometimes too cartoonish, and the performance feels off. Xiao Ran corrects for this quite quickly though and then it’s not a problem for most of the show. The director…
I really don’t understand what showrunners were thinking. The performance is Grad level and the shooting is kindergarten tricks. I’ve heard these shots are done on purpose to cause controversy but honestly why ruin such a good scene? There are plenty of other shots they could have used.

On episode 16: I really hate the SFL. I hate the way she’s written too, so one dimensionally evil without any…
She’s pretty much that way in the book though, and I dare say worse because more time is spent with her but she’s really a very petty character. The drama actually makes her a bit more interesting and a bit plumper than her original ending/setting. Through her, viewers are actually supposed to see how Nie Sangyu progressed into madness, and thus feel less sorry for her because it’s the same path and actions.

The camera work on the cliff scene on episode 1 was terrible. PXR gave so much in that scene and the camera work……
If you knew how much the Chinese audience actively cussed out Xie Ze for this decision… I really don’t understand as a director how he could have bore ruining such a shot. It’s easily the most powerful scene in the whole drama and it was the one pulling in viewers initially when they put out promo gifs (sans that bs effect of course). When people leave negative comments about Xiao Ran’s acting in this show, I feel like they must have skipped the opening-that’s her real level. Acting so good you can see the tears, craziness, and despair clearly despite the whole screen bouncing. No wonder Nie Sangyu got diehard fans with like 3 minutes of screen time😩
Even though they have a good relationship and he contributed two star drama shows to Xiao Ran, I hope she never works with Xie Ze ever again. He can’t capture her beauty nor her acting.

Worth to watch?
Depends on what you’re looking for. It’s a character driven romantic comedy about a young couple that’s light on the plot but it’s good for bingeing and easy watching. The actors support most of the show but do a decent job though some viewers don’t like an opinionated FML. Just don’t go in looking for a profound story, elaborate costumes, or a hot and steamy romance.

Was this drama ever released with Subtitles? I would love to watch it but somehow can‘t find it?
No, I don’t ever think it will get subtitles unless there is some massive drive. It was on YouTube but the channel wasn’t able to release an English version and the show was mostly region locked to China. It’s a shame though because it was good for a tribute drama. I liked the first pair so much that I still secretly hope for a 2nd match.

Been a minute since a FL made me fangirl like this! She's everything you want in a FL.
I wish there were more big heroine roles like JJL. I don’t even mind the Mary-Sue aspects. The scene when she has the face-off with Ning Yunzhao’s mom is so cool to me and honestly gave me goosebumps the first time I watched it.
