Sorry for the rant but I’m glad someone else said it😩The outfit really depended on Xiao Ran’s good looks…
She’s very beautiful but the wedding look is more that she’s beautiful because she already beautiful rather than the dress adds to her beauty. I feel like if she and Miss Shui weren’t already very beautiful, then the dress wouldn’t look as good.
Hopefully now the show will give us a trailer or an official blog. Please don’t treat us as badly as SJFY or…
Haha, I love long dramas with my faves too. I’ll never understand complaints about drama length… the fast forward button exists, why not use it? To this day, I still don’t know the beginning of Eternal Love nor the lower middle parts of Rise of The Phoenix or GBMP. It’s terrible… I’ve only finished Fuyao, Jun Jiu Ling, and RoaTF so basically only Xie Ze dramas🫠😅
Found this post on Weibo and it’s perhaps the most astute observation on what I’d call the “Xiao Feng”…
“ After watching Xiaofeng, I can understand why so many Donggong drama fans keep mentioning this role repeatedly, and even want to frame the actor in this role, because Xiaoran and Xiaofeng are not the same at all. I don't know how she acted. Anyway, that flamboyant, innocent and open-minded prairie girl is so alive, but there are only those moments that are not enough for all those who love her to comfort and miss her, and everyone is not reconciled. When unreconciled drama fans try to find Qu Xiaofeng's shadow in Peng Xiaoran, they will be very disappointed, what a lonely thing this is.
An actor who creates characters regardless of the audience's life and death, I have already begun to grieve in advance.
When I watched Manman, I really didn't feel it, probably because Manbao was loved by someone, and I didn't understand Xiaoran's personality. A small part of the impression of the character and the actor overlapped. I don’t think so when I look at Binghe, although Binghe is completely different from Xiaoran, but the main line of Binghe is to be expected, and I also think she will work hard in parallel time and space. Only Qu Xiaofeng died thoroughly, there was no expectation in the play, no comfort outside the play, she didn't want to live anymore
In other words, the living cannot defeat the dead, and there is no turning point between life and death. Definitely my biggest abuse point.”

Yes, the plot seems novel which is really good. People like fresh plots. It’s also a cast full of good actors so even if the script is a bit weak, a good director and good actors can make up for it.

I heard mixed things about the script… but the director is supposed to be very good. And the premise is novel. It should at least keep the bubbly girl haters at bay😅
I don’t think it did too bad all things considered but it’s really the platform that knows if the show did well. However, if a show did really well, the platform might praise it.
Basically, future platforms, endorsements, and investors look at how well a show performed. If the show meets or exceeds expectations, then usually the actors receive benefits such as higher quality shows, endorsements, etc.

I can’t understand why it’s so secretive tbh. Maybe it stems from the JJL smoking incident… Although good news is a comment below said it’s Hunan/Mango. Hopefully it’ll perform well since it’s a star drama. A good performance on the stars opens a lot of doors.
I'm a bit of a nerd so I routinely check DB scores for anything airing and stumbled upon this one. I was also…
Tone doesn’t always translate through the internet and I’ve had people on here take me the wrong way so fair enough… but I do have to say that Chongzi wasn’t an unmitigated disaster either… Its word of mouth might not be good but from what I’ve understood of the data I last saw (though data is always changing), its broadcast effect was good. It, as an S level webdrama, was even beating out the broadcast effect of an S+ drama in the same genre that was multicast on a major TV station. And, it was also #1 on Tencent for awhile too. Word of mouth matters to some extent, but quantitive data matters more to most investors so beating out an S+ xianxia with a star that aired during the same time is nothing to sneer at either. Maybe Douban has been more careful in recent years but it definitely had a reputation for being gamed. It got to the point it got chastised by the government for the antics going on the site. And although there might be more mechanisms in place as a result such as locking, the showrunners have to be smart enough to work them. Given the overall level of promotion of RoaTF, this crew might not care enough to enact them.

Lol, who said it was a disaster😅? 6.6 is not a bad score for this type of drama at all. Personally , I think the score is a bit low but a high 6 for a rom-com is nothing to sneer at considering it’s a costume drama that basically threw out the costume bit😂. MDL tends to score pure rom-coms lower but its score doesn’t affect the dramas grades. My surprise was more at what dramas it has beaten out. I generally don’t trash dramas so I didn’t name any specific dramas, but some of them have been used to trash this drama and yet the Douban score is lower, hence the surprise. I’m not surprised at it doing better in China than overseas necessarily either. That happens quite a lot. Jun Jiu Ling is the perfect example of the reverse. A lot of the low score had to do with anger at the casting, which wasn’t the case overseas. And its actual performance couldn’t have been terrible if it’s been picked up by not one but two TV stations (and it’s ratings on the first station beat out a S+ drama with big stars that was also on the second run). With RoaTF, I can definitely see how it can do better in China than on MDL though (It was/is still doing well on Tencent overseas. Still #1 in my region. Still seems popular on Tencent YouTube with its announcement earning a like amount just under the level of first line stars despite only advertising for a month). But back to why I think there’s a difference. I think the Chinese audience seems to understand the type of drama this is much better than the MDL audience, their expectations are more inline with what the drama delivers. The Chinese audience also understands where the drama is anti-cliche (even though some of that hurt its reputation) whereas a lot of the MDL viewers aren’t familiar enough with either cultural aspects or the tropes they’re reversing/innovating. MDL viewers also seemed to miss/not care about how much setup and foreshadowing was going on while Chinese viewers didn’t miss it and quite a few commented positively about it. Plus, the emotional development line, the pairing, Nie Sangyu, and the ending seems to resonate more domestically. I think message and theme also carries a lot of weight, moreso than on here so that was another plus. Tbh, if the makeup and costumes for the actresses were on the detail level of the setting, the opening kept serious, and the show was shot by whoever shot episode 16, I’m pretty sure this show would have broken at least 7. Also, I’m not surprised at the demographics being female. Mostly female viewers makes sense because Xiao Ran’s fans are mostly women too. What surprises me is the age range as I thought it would have skewed younger because of Ding Yuxi’s age. I’m also not bothered by the number of ratings either. PXR fans don’t really do data in comparison to other fan groups and the show didn’t really get advertised beyond a few trailers and some hot searches. Other shows get front page, press conferences, variety shows, and magazines etc but this show has only done small things with the biggest being live broadcasts. I’m not sure Tencent even does building sweeps but if it does, the show didn’t even do that. And bombing is totally a thing😅.That’s why shows get locked now and possibly why this show didn’t release its score until the end. GBMP got bombed by another show competing for the best BE drama title and its score never quite recovered…I’m pretty sure it’s since been locked. And this show doesn’t have to be “popular” to be bombed, there just needs to be a competitor interested in giving it a low score as was the case with GBMP. I haven’t watched Royal Rumors but perhaps just like Jun Jiu Ling what works overseas might not work as well domestically.
What is the latest costume series that she will be playing again? Will it be released this year?
This is her last ancient costume drama for now. The last two left to air are a modern one and a 1960s period drama. There’s a chance she may be in a costume for the Jackie Chan movie, but no stills have come out yet.
I don't know how she acted. Congrats to Hua Mei for passing the review!
It also kept all 40 episodes which is amazing. Can’t wait for Officer Hongmei!
