I’m another PXR fan that doesn’t understand the DYX hate. I just saw a really rude hot search of him yesterday on Weibo too. I’m also picky about PXR costars and I think he looks good in this show. In Episode 9 in the woodshed he definitely was the picture of a handsome young man. He has very interesting features which I prefer and they match really well with Xiao Ran in this show. And, I also agree that he is the best of out the younger actors Xiao Ran has worked with. He can actually cry and can create a sense of chemistry which so many actors can’t do. He didn’t drop a single scene which can’t be said for some of her other dramas no matter how high the regard.

I went to have a look and I think I’ll give the one with Zhang Yuxi or Esther Yu a chance. I’m actually most interested in the Dali Temple one because he’ll be playing a cat. It makes me wonder what idiosyncrasies he will incorporate into the character to get the cat effect.

I requested JJL this time too😂 Already did SJFY when it came out in hopes they’d get the full version.

The main selling point is that Starry Love is a xianxia though, no need to play coy when that was ultimately its key marketing point. And, I’m not interested in either of those shows✌️I’ve seen clips of both and they’re a no and they’re definitely a no after implying the show I do like is not done well. Like why would I watch a show recommended to me by someone who has come to trash the show I like😂

No role is ever a waste for an actor. It’s such a shame to see fans say that. Even if it’s just to get more exposure, every role is an opportunity, a networking connection, or a chance to break out. Have any of these detractors ever thought of why their fave might be so good? It’s probably specifically because they are always challenging themselves. Sure, not every role will be an Oscar worthy performance but it’s enough to bring the characters to life for the audience.
If this show didn’t air, I would have never have learned about Ding Yuxi’s talent and I definitely wouldn’t have given his future shows a chance. Now because of this, he has the potential to gain a new fan and the same goes for Peng Xiao Ran.
The beauty of the Jinyumantang pairing is that it is a juvenile relationship that grows into a mature one. If the actors or the relationship feels juvenile, then they have succeeded because that is precisely what the show is going for-a young couple in their first serious relationship trying to respect and uplift each other in a relatively healthy way.

I’m not sure why you came all the way down here to respond to my comment after leaving your own review but it’s good to know your genres. Starry Love is xianxia. And it’s also good to know quantifiers. I used the word most, meaning that most and not all romantic comedy Cdramas fall within this range.
For a show that “sucks” so much I don’t understand why people are expending all this energy to convince others that it’s not good😂

I meant to do that. Will do it now. It can definitely compete with some of the romcom Cdramas I’ve seen on Netflix.

Yeah, I think the only thing Chen MinZheng could have played with more is texture, embroidery/beadwork, and color gradation of the layers but they don’t seem to have that talent from what I’ve seen of their portfolio.
BTW, what dramas of DYX can you recommend that have an actress with good looks and acting skills? Or his performance is really good? Except for RoTaR, I’m not too keen on that. I know there have been recommendations but they’ve been lost in the comments.

I complained a lot in the beginning but after watching the show, I really do like Jiman’s overall design. It’s hard to explain Xiao Ran’s looks but she often reminds me of very early film and Hollywood starlets - there’s a ton of beauty and story in their eyes and their overall features are quite delicate and pleasant to look at. I feel that this makeup caught that sense in a way I’ve only ever seen once in SJFY and it was also a “plain” look.
It’s a bit strange for me because before the show aired, I would have agreed about the brocade but after, I feel like an updo or heavier brocades wouldn’t have fit. There seems to be this airiness and lightness to Jiman that I don’t think would be achievable if she was dressed more traditionally; like the brocades would weigh her down, bring a fairy down to earth. The only look I could think of that would give the same flowing effect seems to be for unmarried girls so it would still get scolded😅
Altho after more thought, there’s a look in SJFY when she gets betrothed in front of the court that has a similar effect and it’s heavier materials but the effect is otherworldly. It would have been overkill for this show😅

Does anyone else find it ironic that Wen Wan gets caned to death? It’s the same punishment she enacted on Ji Man.

I actually think the styling might be because Ji Man is a modern girl. Jiman’s style and behaviour makes sense for a modern girl who doesn’t want to be bothered by doing up their hair and clothes. There’s a photo from the wrap ceremony with PXR wearing modern clothes. I have a feeling everything was all a dream but either the showrunners or censors cut that part and they were clever enough to have the explanation be that she grew up open minded from sailing the seas since young.
Fans have complained about the styling especially after seeing the makeup video but I also noticed a lot of passerby saying they like her face, which is a positive of having such a bare faced look.
Also Chen Minzheng still belongs in costume jail but I get the sense he was going for a western princess look but make it Chinese. Someone cut Jiman with some Disney movies and other than the plainness of the materials, she didn’t look out of place.

Yeah, this show is very special. I never pay for Express Play but I paid without hesitation for this show😂

Right? I don’t watch either. There’s some shows flying around this year that look terrible to me but I just mind my own business and keep to what I like.
I used to be a lurker too but PXR doesn’t have much of a fan presence overseas so I joined this site to support her shows. It’s just sad this show’s page ended up being mostly about fending off negativity. I’d like to be like the Chinese fans who are discussing the plot, characters, creating drawing and videos, or really funny memes(they’re also fighting negativity too but it’s calmed down now).

It’s because I like the show. I don’t comment on shows I don’t like. Everyone is entitled to their opinions but I don’t see the point in wasting time trying to spread negativity, hurt others, or ruin their day when I can focus on the things I like and be happy.

I’m trying not to respond to those kind of reviews or comments anymore. Too much negative energy. From now, unless it’s something really rude, I’ll just chat with those who like the show or post tidbits of the show that might not make it on YouTube instead of argue.

Yeah, the Emperor was playing tricks😂 He had Jiman there listening I guess so she knew how much NYX loved her and would agree. I’m guessing Ji Man contacted the others who kept it a secret until the end.

Tbh, I never pay attention to the ratings on this site because they seem random. Good Cdramas on average seem to have low scores on here. When I saw someone give a drama a low score because it had a sad ending, I knew it was a wrap…
