Her voice really is nice. I can’t explain it but even with a language barrier, it’s so pleasant to hear. I like the current VA because I think she has some good nuances in vocal expression but I think if Jiman sounded like this, she would be totally and utterly baby.😭😭😭

There’s different theories as to why they did it but no one knows for sure. The main theory is the original writer got cancelled and that affected everything else. I’m glad it got released in the end but I’ll never forgive the fact that they cut out Bai Lu’s growth storyline of her starting out as a wayward social outcast aiming to kill Yu Xiuming for A’Rui’s death to becoming responsible empress ruling in Yu Xiuming’s stead. Completely gutted the story and the character. 😩

It seems like it’s following a side storyline of the book a little bit. Nie Sangyu’s mom was a twin and the twin sisters both married the same man.

Her new show is doing okay and attracting fans. She’s also been building her own team so hopefully things will get better.

I think the main leads definitely make this drama. They are acting very well and have good chemistry. Hope Tencent finally sees the value in casting good actors together every once in a while rather than always following traffic.

Depending on which character you identify with or like, it’s a very sad ending. I rarely cry watching TV but this show’s ending made me cry until I choked. Even when I tried to rewatch it properly a year or two later, tears streamed down my face watching the first two episodes before I gave up.

It’s really hard not to drink this pair. They’re quickly becoming my favourite pair of the year because these two really give “young couple stumbling through their first real relationship but trying to do the right thing” energy. I really love love love how they’re trying to have a relatively healthy relationship by talking about things. She asked him about his fear of fire but didn’t push when she realised he wasn’t ready. The box scene is most cliche dramas would have played out as some major fight/misunderstanding but instead NYX begged to change the contents and he went to comfort her after she was embarrassed. It’s so sweet. I want more. I want more sweet couples with a doting male lead.

But I think this is why the start is so great😂 She was so infatuated with the guy but then once she met him with no stars in her eyes, she was like “dang, this guy is trash ✌️”. Some shows will never address or acknowledge this kind of thing. They would just have the female lead just fall in love and become a doormat/evil jealous woman like NSY but I think because of their beginnings, Jiman has this endearingly tsundere approach to NSY now. It’s a bit of an unexpected reversal and something I think this show is doing better than GMP. There it’s never addressed why XF likes LCY despite him being mean from pretty much the get go. Viewers just have to believe in fate or go read the book.

And there’s definitely more than one Director. The camera language, shots, lighting, styling are all different. I’m not sure if the good shots are Director Ze or an assistant director though.

I think it is the filter tbh because she seems to look fine in the tidbits. Jun Jiu Ling was the same case and it was definitely the filter because the rebroadcast fixed it and she was still plain but really beautiful at the same time. I actually don’t understand why they use so much filter on her. I blame Li Mu Ge and Youku. She didn’t have a filter when she was a host or in her earlier TV show appearances and was gorgeous. When I watched her in Challenger League which was just a variety show, her makeup was on the plain side but I thought she was so pretty it was ridiculous that she wasn’t popular then.
