The editing really gutted it so it’s best to just focus on the relationship of the main couple if you like their chemistry. Also the costumes. Everything else is too damaged by the editing.
Love the ML-FL dynamic, but the weak point is the cut and that didn't flow well. 7/10. Generously. I do love that…
I feel like I’m going to die with regrets because of this drama lol.I really don’t understand why the last arc wasn’t shown. It doesn’t seem like it would have needed any cuts since it’s just life after marriage. Sigh, I too would like to see them team up in another drama, preferably a serious costume drama rather than an idol like this but it feels like a pipe dream due to all the hate they got.
The trailer gives me "Goodbye, My Princess" vibes and so, I'm not going to watch this. I dislike tragic.
Nah, it’s not like Goodbye My Princess at all. It has some sad moments but it’s not as dark as GMP and the ML doesn’t treat the FML like garbage like in GMP. It’s slow burn but this show’s ML is pretty doting considering the trope.
well I know that their actual age gap is not that huge but still, it looks huge in appearance. It might put some…
Yeah, casting is often out of the hands of most actors and sometimes they don’t know their partner until the contract is signed but the Weibo scene is just toxic and strange and they blame actors for all types of stuff. She’s been told to quit acting with ugly guys, quit doing fantasy dramas, her careers over, all types of ugly stuff over this show’s casting. The male lead has been getting tons of hate too but he’s established whereas she’s still I think a C level actress from what I remember so public opinion has more of an effect on her career.
but the emperor said those bricks are fill with gold, the gold was stolen or the gold means food ??
Gold more than likely means food. One of the biggest problems in warfare is logistics so having a large and ever ready cache of food is a “goldmine”. It probably got cut or explained too fast for the audience to catch but I’m guessing they used it to feed the troops defending the sanctuary otherwise why highlight it?
wow, it is so heartbreaking that youku does not care about this show. but at least fans do!
Tbh, it’s not a bad thing for fans to be so invested. If it’s deep and long lasting enough it could become a cult classic even despite the quality. GMP was pretty much solely powered by fans until recently.
Would you cry if one of your friends died in front of you? Let alone they betrayed your trust and wanted to murder…
YWY is a childhood sweetheart so by plot logic, he has a unique existence to Yezi even if it’s not romantic love. Plus, she still thinks YXM is immortal at that point and YWY is literally two feet away and has a sword sticking out of his chest compared to YXM sitting in a chair. She would get scolded to death by most audiences if she ran past him.😂
It’s a slow burn romance and most of the chemistry is in the push-pull relationship the two have but the first…
It’s really not a lie to say this show is a slow burn . However, I can understand it’s not for everyone. It’s also not that passionate super intense love style either. The romance is very step by step. It feels realistic and given the age gap of the characters, it’s kinda nice the show gives Yezi time to process her feelings. Part of Yezi’s growth line is letting go of A’Rui and letting go of revenge. I think for someone like Yezi who hasn’t really had too many ppl to rely on in life it would be a slow process. When she does realise her feelings it’s very sweet tho.
well I know that their actual age gap is not that huge but still, it looks huge in appearance. It might put some…
That’s fair. Some people are more okay when they know her real age so I always give the information. I feel a bit bad for her. The actress sometimes gets ridiculed for acting with younger actors that look more her age but now she’s paired with an older actor, she’s also getting ridiculed (not here but on Weibo). She can’t win lol.
and does anyone know why so many episodes were cut?
The rules are always changing which is why dramas end up getting cut or making changes. Political stuff gets cut but other things like no ghosts, no BL, no soul transfer rules also exist. Apparently the name or title of some character from the hit drama Canglan Jue had to change due to one of these types of rules.
and does anyone know why so many episodes were cut?
Nah all dramas have to go under the censorship review before they air. Historical dramas have the toughest review but even modern and fantasy can face cuts.
and does anyone know why so many episodes were cut?
Supposedly it got cut down due to censorship. I think it’s worth watching but I’m a fan of one of the actors in the show so maybe I have a filter. I’d say if you go in with no expectations and understanding it’s had deep cuts that affect the plot, characters, and pacing, it’s fine. There’s also some character analysis posted in the discussions that can give more context to what is missing. The first three episodes are the roughest but it gets better after that. The acting between the two leads is the biggest draw for most. They have a really good dynamic.
He seems like he was supposed to have more of a role. There also seems to be some one sided pining on his part…
It’s a shame haters on Bstation got to this show first. It was honestly a shipfest😂. There were so many possible pairings flying around everywhere that it would have made the fan video scene lively.
What a disappointment this drama has been so far. It's not bad as much as extremely mediocre. Terrible editing,…
Lol, a fan watching the show said why has the show given them more grievances than a ghost. I don’t think it’s the script. Apparently it took years to polish. Fans are also trying to get ahold of it because the show has been redubbed from the original lines. I also doubt it’s the director since he has some classics. Most domestic opinion feels that the fault is 100% with the editors. I think that’s partially why the crew put out the tidbits and BTS so early, so fans could understand/see the contrast between what was shot and what was the end result. As viewers have probably learned with SJFY, the difference between a good movie and a bad movie is often in the editing. That’s why some of the bigger names make some serious bucks. As for PXR, her fans are really disappointed in this show. I’ve been reading the clarification posts and watching BTS and it seems like for whatever reason, the later editors gutted PXR’s character. Her growth line was essentially the acceptance of love but through the delivery of a revenge plot. By cutting out the revenge part entirely, the show cut out Yezi’s transformation from revenge on behalf of A’Rui, wavering because YXM is good to her, wanting go back to the past to save A’Rui (which in turn will allow her to love YXM guilt free), to the final stage of mourning A’Rui but moving on with her own life. This story basically only gave us the middle part of Yezi’s growth although I’d argue that Yezi in episode 21 is far more savvy than in episode 1. Yezi will probably never compare to Xiao Feng to viewers in performance because she isn’t given enough time. GMP is 55 episodes to SJFY’s 25. That’s 30 more episodes plus 3 Easter egg specials for Xiao Feng’s story to unfold. In fact, I’d argue the first ten episodes or so of GMP exist mostly to ensure the audience realises Xiao Feng as a full blooded character before the “romance” kicks in. This helps the audience understand just how drastic her transformation is during the drama. And even tho ppl complain about GMP’s editors, they did take care to give us shots that showcased PXR’s acting. The same can’t be said for SJFY. Its editors basically either cut, shortened, rearranged out of place , or redubbed inappropriately any super emotional scene of Yezi and it’s absolutely mind boggling when PXR’s acting skills were one of the shows draws. I mean in this tidbit, her skills are no worse than GMP: https://m.weibo.cn/detail/4849903807243975 But the scene in the aired episode has less than a fraction of the emotion. It’s really a pity because Yezi is the first character PXR has played that actually has a clear line of growth and a deeper complexity. Xiao Feng stays sweet until the last scene and doesn’t grow up until the very end and that’s part of what leads to her tragedy. Jun Jiu Ling learns a little from her initial mistake but her setup is too much the perfect heroine. Li Binghe is sweet like Xiao Feng but has growth but unfortunately her part ends before she realises it.
when does FL really fall in love with ML and not just treat him as a king?
It’s a slow burn romance and most of the chemistry is in the push-pull relationship the two have but the first proper romantic scenes happen in Episode 13 and that’s when Yezi starts to see him in a different light.
Sigh, I too would like to see them team up in another drama, preferably a serious costume drama rather than an idol like this but it feels like a pipe dream due to all the hate they got.
