Conspiracy Theory Time!!! After watching the tidbits, I’m pretty sure this show had at least two different sets of editors. Why? 1) Almost every single tidbit is emotionally on point and the ones that are polished are often more beautiful than the show. 2) Then there’s the fact that some sequences are absolutely gorgeous and some barely pass the amateur test. The well shot sequences feel like the original bits that were allowed to stay. 3) Whoever cut the final edit seemed determined to destroy both the enemies to lovers storyline of Yu Xiuming and Yezi and the emotional depth of the lovers to enemies storyline of Yezi and Yi Wuyou. To the point that it ruins a lot of the main plot. I can’t see a crew that took such care to shoot such emotional scenes then cutting it up like it’s been done. I feel like there would have been more care to preserve what they could. Especially with PXR and ZZT. The tension between her love/guilt for Yu Xiuming and the slow breakdown of the relationship with Yi Wuyou is crucial to setting up the brutal triangle Youku promised but it’s all gone. I feel like the crews editors would have tried to save it as best as they could. Maybe it is that their performances aren’t strong enough but the cuts are so deep and poorly arranged that both PXR and ZZT are both getting criticised for their acting . This is sad when the BTS shows them both on point. Looking at the BTS of PXR and ZZT at the end gave me real tears but the trailer doesn’t show anything with the same level of depth. I doubt someone who worked with the original feeling of the scene would then cut it so that it half the affect. Even with censorship cuts, why would a crew who spent 4 months shooting come up with the end result of what we’ve received ?

Strangely I still love this show a lot too despite all my complaints lol. For a fantasy, it still has the best acting I’ve seen in 2022 and regardless of what haters say, it has the best male protagonist in Cdrama, and it has one of the best couples I’ve seen in Cdrama despite them not seeming to have chemistry at first sight.
Did the side characters donate a kidney to the writer in a past life? It sure feels like the story is working…
Supposedly they’re actors who belong to the show’s production company . I’m guessing they kept them to give the story some coherence with all the cuts but they are so boring and every time I see them on screen I get annoyed.

I want to be surprised but I feel like it’s not going to happen. I really don’t understand Youku’s creative vision at all and feel terrible for PXR and FSF. They got so much hate and ridicule, the least Youku could do is lean in and show their complete story but it seems that they want to lean into the comments of people who won’t watch the show anyway rather than the people who will follow and they just ended up alienating both crowds.

I don’t know why the censors bothered to cut the Yebei arc. They’re so annoying it’s hard to have an ounce of sympathy.I don’t like a single person from Yebei besides A’Rui and Yezi. The rest can go in the trash.
