Caught up to episode 8 and I’m loving it. Feels like the book in so many ways and the old fashion flavour is nice.

Does anyone think the puppet incense brainwashing scene was pretty cool? The acting was really good there.

And poor Zhong Lin😂 I can’t remember if she ends up with the Prince but she’s so cute chasing after Cangcang.

Seems like the proactive Cangcang has arrived! She’ll find out the truth herself. I can’t wait for the next episodes.

Tomorrow Cangcang gonna find consorts for emperor to expand his harem. LoL. This is not what I wanted to see from…
It’s her duty as empress. Everyone is complaining about her being illogical and shirking responsibility but when she’s logical and being responsible people are complaining 😂

can you elaborate about the pear blossoms motif? what does it mean? and I agree with your comment. people like…
Thank you for the explanation. I wish there more of these type of comments. The symbolism is really beautiful.
梨花带雨 “pear blossoms in the rain” I’ve seen this expression translated many times but never knew the whole meaning as I’d only ever seen it used to describe crying scenes and just thought it meant a kind of tragic beauty. After reading your comment, I think it fits Cangcang. I can already see the changes in Cangcang. There is a quiet sadness around her now. I’m really looking forward to the rest of her story.

He’s not really crazy. His hands are tied in the situation.
Yeah, in the book this is essentially their biggest issue and one they have to work on the most. I think the drama will do the same but because audiences are usually more biased towards men, they have to take it to the extreme to show how disturbing the situation is for the female lead.

I think it’s not a question of right and wrong. But of choices. The father would have cut off the dude’s finger no matter what and told her the husband did it. Showing it to her is excessive but the ML seems to think it’s better that she hate him as an “outsider” than have to deal with the fallout of learning your relatives are scumbags. It also provides the cover that the emperor is cruel to the empress and doesn’t like her which serves as a secondary layer of protection.

It’s uncomfortable in the first episodes but what the show is trying to do is balance some of the flaws of the book. These two have a sort of tit for tat relationship when it comes to hurting each other. If the show went the route of emotional hurt like in the book people might not get the ML’s flaw and think the FL is lashing out for no reason.

Congrats to the show hitting 8500 on Youku’s heat index!
Thank you to everyone who commented or left a like on social media, watched the show on YouTube, Youku, Netflix, and Viki, and participated in the barrage on the Youku app. You’re awesome 🎉

Honestly, the show is so much better than the book. There’s a lot of content that was incoherent such as the…
Yes, I think part of the problem people are having is they think they have to agree but I don’t think it’s about agreeing with what is happening but understanding what is happening and how it has an effect on all the characters. The complications and frustrations are necessary to see the beauty of the characters doing their best to live within the restrictions of their roles.

When will FL get to know about the real truth about her master and father? Novel readers, does anyone know?
She’s already at odds with her father when the novel starts.

Why is no one talking about how Cangcang spun that maid’s comment? I really wasn’t expecting her to use it to say the maid was calling the Dowager Empress fat😂😂😂

The old school drama vibe is such a charm. I needed this inside palace conspiracy plot with regular production…
I really like that there’s basically no filters. You can see the nuances of expression better. It’s pretty much everyone’s natural beauty and gives the story a more human feel.

Yeah, Xiao Huan’s homework in this show is he needs to let people in and trust them. He can’t do it alone. It begins with Cangcang and gradually spreads to other people.

This drama is literally amazing...how come rating is this low
Rating by episode is also important.

Its context. Cdramas from IPs are like this. There’s often a backstory that only those who’ve read the source material will get and that the drama plays to and wants to attract.

And what frustrates you about the ML’s treatment of the FL is entirely the point. They want you to see the uselessness of his noble idiocy so you can understand how ridiculous it is and its effect on Cangcang. Otherwise Cangcang will be seen as ungrateful and unreasonable. She’s already being criticised in the comments despite a more balanced story.

And the brothers have had years of bad blood and people manipulating their relationship. His brother is a threat no matter the relationship and has to be dealt with carefully. Love and Crown is indeed a good title for this show because it is showing how hard the balance between the two can be.

Guys havent watched this yet but so many spoilers in the comment and tiktok so I wanna ask if her master and brother…
Because he realises she’s not like her dad and grows to like her. She’s also a useful chess piece and he can get things done by marrying her. One of his biggest adversaries is her father and although they’re both gambling with her, he can use her to get her father to do certain things.

He won’t tell her about the Master probably because he doesn’t want to cause conflict in her heart.

She is both powerful and not powerful. She has her dad as her backing which is a certain level of power in that she can be Empress but she’s a junior to the Dowager Empress so she has less power in the harem and politics for now and she probably won’t really get any unless she starts networking and building connections in the palace or has a kid.

I will watch this if theres already 20episodes because I will die in waiting. Is there a novel? Whats the ending?…
No point in reading the novel tbh. The drama is leagues better imo.

I’m not understanding why they can’t tell her the truth about who everyone in her family is and who her master…
It’s how it is in the book. It’s a common trope in C-ent and basically the ML’s biggest flaw. In the book the FL constantly challenged this behaviour. I feel Cangcang in the show will too but it’s showing the audience the consequences of this behaviour on Cangcang probably so they can understand her actions later on. Some people are trying to spin the narrative that book Cangcang’s character was criticised because she was naive but that’s wrong.Book Cangcang was criticised mostly because she was seen as illogical and ungrateful to the male lead who appears in the book as a green flag. The show is actually taking a more nuanced approach.

I think for people who don’t like misunderstandings or imperfect characters, this probably isn’t the show for them yet or possibly at all. The charm of the book is really these two imperfect people trying build a workable relationship for themselves despite the machinations of the court. So, the book and it seems the drama are focused on the growth of both of the characters and the relationship. Rumors, slander, and tricks have always been weapons used in court in the real world and misunderstandings were entirely the point. So, there will be misunderstandings especially in a setting like Love and Crown where there are powerful characters relying on that misinformation.
