I’ve read both the ancient and the modern versions of the novel and parts of the script. I’ve even followed fans on both sides reactions to the script. My opinion is still to wait for the end result. The drama script made changes that are improvements over the novel but a script isn’t the final result. IPs are also meaningless if the final result is not good.
If you’re worried about the likability of Xiao Huan, he should still be a good character setting. Unless there have been major changes, he’s a very affectionate character, which female viewers tend to like.

Yes! I thought this when I watched the first episode. It has a very anime feel. There’s hints of Inuyasha, Demonslayer, Onmyouji and what feels like an aesthetic from old school Clamp. The main character is a really common archetype in anime too. In reality because it’s a Chinese show , it probably is closer to donghua and I’ve seen posts referencing donghua elements too but most would be more familiar with anime.

It’s very hard to bring animation to life because it’s essentially visually limitless but GJM seems to understand enough about what can translate to make it work.

Also for tragedy, you have to give the audience room to breathe for it to really hit home properly. Otherwise you risk turning things into an angst grind fest and losing the audience anyway.

I’ve heard 10,000 is quite difficult to get on IQIYI. That’s why I mentioned other assessment standards such as view counts. There’s quite a few data lists but they all work differently. I hope the show can break 10,000 though because it will benefit the cast and I think sincere productions should be rewarded.

Ranyi got a lot of heat for not looking as majestic as the leaks but I think his presentation in the drama is more beautiful because it shows his distressed mental state.

No one can know a drama’s quality until it airs- there are too many factors that affect the final result.
Novel readers won’t be able to help because apparently the drama is different from the novel (which may be a good thing). Even someone who read the script isn’t a sure bet because things get cut or changed during filming.
Anxiety is terrible but the thing to keep in mind is that the leads are both professional and sincere actors who want to deliver a good product.

Episode 6 has some of the most beautiful moments I’ve seen in a long time. It’s been so long since I’ve seen something so moving. It reminded me why I fell in love with Cdramas- the delicate way they handle romance.

Actually really glad that parts of the filming were captured because some stuff got cut or was taken from a different angle.

She’s really worth investing in. She’s beautiful and a really good actress. If she is given the right tools, she can really make a character come alive no matter how much screen time she gets. Her cameos and guest appearances this year have been so good but completely different characters from each other.

Peng Xiao Ran and Riley Wang really did a good job.
