I've been waiting for this movie ever since I saw the video from the set of HMH and CDL, there was such chemistry,…
This is why I didn’t really think it was completely fair to criticise the number of photos and filming videos uploaded for this show. It’s natural that some things don’t make it into the show but the level of record keeping that went on is now literally serving as an excellent archive for what didn’t make it.
On a personal note, I think about what makes this drama so addictive. And I think it's that they really pull at…
For me, it’s the world building + a cast with a developed enough sense of character creation to support that world building. There is a sense that somewhere in a parallel world, these characters could exist and I think that’s really key to creating an engaging costume drama-and potentially why Cdramas have been struggling lately. There are a decent number of actors with character creation abilities, but there are not enough Cdrama directors with the ability to world build or pull any of those abilities out. When it comes to eating, presentation plays a huge part. A dish presented well will give a greater sense of enjoyment and engagement than a sloppily prepared one even if they taste the same. I thinking picking up a drama is quite similar. Without directors who know how to “serve” a story it’s harder to find something to “eat” and to fully enjoy the meal.
I've been seeing a lot of comments about the modern background music sounding out of place in this series as it's…
It’s set in a fantasy world so I don’t think historical accuracy should matter so much. It’s like one of the cast members was getting dragged for having brown instead of pure black hair when it was shooting and it’s so weird. Like there’s literally people with magical powers walking around and a few guitar chords breaks the suspension of disbelief?😂
(Poor) Huang Wei is a menace 😭 But Xiao Ran’s face is really beautiful despite wearing one of the ugliest costumes I’ve ever seen in my life 🙂↕️ https://m.weibo.cn/detail/5100355060502687
I think it's just got to be accepted that people have different tastes. I both really like the FL but I can also…
“There was no need to put FL aside to present other plots. ” I agree with this. And this is the biggest problem with the show to me. I feel like any show that does this does itself a disservice.
That's coz some people just hate women in general. No matter what they do, its always their fault. Female characters…
This^Sometimes the bashing gets so bad, it ruins the vibe of the show. And on MDL, I often feel like I have to spend most of my time defending a FML when I watch a show otherwise risk seeing the page become a cesspool. There was a drama with a FML who didn't have much of a fanbase on here and the comments were absolutely terrible. I ended up not watching the show because of it.

Yes, they do transfer it to the actress, which is annoying. The blame should rest with the screenwriter that thought it was okay to write such a paper thin female protagonist when everyone is given much fuller characterisation. It’s not even about the romance but the setup of the show made me suspect it wouldn’t be strong but at the very least Wen Xiao should have been written as a character who can stand on her own. Like in the first few minutes of the show, she should be just as interesting to watch alone as with the male lead.
But as fan of CDL.. I'm really disappointed. I follow her quite some times and I feel FOF didn't give her any…
In the current climate, the feeling is to take a drama if it’s offered because it’s getting harder and harder for shows to start. The worst thing for a star in C-ent is lack of exposure. If a drama airs it is at the very least exposure and if many dramas are filmed, there’s a greater chance of one of them being a hit. GJM is really risky for actresses imo but he also brings a lot of attention.
I just know I am getting cancelled for this but since that has never scared me and every one is free to share…
I’m actually kinda annoyed about what’s been done to Wen Xiao. I was really excited about her in the opening of the show. She was so charming and smart but by the middle of episode 1, I felt it was kinda a wrap for her character because it felt so forcefully weakened when she encountered the Chongwu guards for the first time. Wen Xiao can be weak but she gives the feeling that she should be scrappy like in her intro scene. Her smarts should come into play when fighting to compensate for her physical inability. And even if she doesn’t have the skills, the show has to tell us she’s willing to fight to the end. The writer’s use of being human and missing the token is a cheap excuse. For this type of character to work, there has to be a sense of tenacity. Even when she’s knocked down her spirit should show she’s not willing to give up. She must have the feeling of a clever and resourceful underdog that the audience wants to root for. And if there is a lore that provides why ZYZ protects, there should be the feeling that she wants to become strong to reciprocate. Otherwise how can she come to the table with such overpowered characters? But the show doesn’t do that. It continuously gives sidekick with just enough clever moments to keep you invested. It could be argued that Wen Xiao does contribute but because it’s emotional labour rather physical labour it’s downplayed which is often the case with women in real life but I really feel her character has not been given the development or writing she deserves. I don’t actually think a character like her has to change greatly emotionally but as a goddess character her power should level up or she should develop some unique and useful skill otherwise what’s the point of the goddess setting? I’ve been following the commentary to see how the show goes but I haven’t been watching it lately because other than guest appearances, her character intrigued me the most. I just can’t stand when a creator obviously or purposefully weakens or underdevelops a character, especially a female protagonist, to promote other protagonist. It doesn’t feel like a full story and I feel like it doesn’t do full justice to all of the characters involved.
If all of you are right and this is supposed to be a BL drama and those few female characters were added just…
I think the problem here is that if it’s ZYZ/ZYC let it be ZYZ/ZYC. Be brave about it rather than sneaky. There’s a feeling of being tricked when creators do things this way and it often earns a negative response from the audience even if there is popularity. I actually wonder if CDL had the full script when she accepted the show. Many actresses will not take on this type of show for the reasons you stated above.
Glad to see you here too! Xiao Ran has a cameo in this show.
