Here from the beginning lol. Also looking forward for both of their future projects. I do Xu Kai picks something…
Haha, yes, if Xu Kai is ML, he should be in it at least 60% of drama. I dropped Yitong's Dt Appledog's Time and Dear Missy... Although with Dear Missy it was more due to I wasn't in the mood for such a meandering friendship story, might retry it later. Love her in Bloody Romance...
I wonder who are still here from the beginning, when it first start airing? I guess those of us who are still watching, is becos of love for either Xu Kai or Li Yitong (or in my case, both). Last 3 episodes \o/
PS: really hope LYT can pick a good script that STAYS exciting until the end.... I've been struggling with her recent dramas -_-"
Very well written!! Although I beg to differ on your opinion that this drama is suitable for those in a slump.... First half is really good, the initial court intrigues are very well written and directed, and I thought this might be 1 of my Top 10 for the year. Subsequently, poor scriptwriting and editing ruins the great promise it has showed.... Drama was initially meant to be 69 episodes and edited down to 55. Maybe that is part of the reasons for the poor developments in second half. Back to my initial statement, if I were in a drama slump and watch this, I might lose hope on dynastic cdramas.... lol
When the Emperor was trying to uncover who had set up the lightning rod, I found myself getting the giggles when…
Lol, agree with you!! But I'm more tickled by how a simple merchant girl (remember how at the beginning Furou asked Chumu to write words so she can learn?) become so clever through reading a lot of books, that she can become an investigator.... haha
Sigh this drama suffers from really bad editing. Prince Han had wanted to kill Crown Princess, although she commited…
Agree with you..... For whatever reason, they choose to keep the unnecessary grieving scenes of the Emperor instead of the more important scenes that would show better transitions between events. Drama is said to be 60+ episodes and they had to cut to 55. But this editing is really bad.
Very insightful and intimate account of your viewing experience. I like the references too :)Till this day, although…
Thank You ^^. It is not an easy drama to sit through, definitely not a binge-able drama. But I have fully enjoyed the watch experience, might have rated 10 if not for that ending... This drama is best enjoyed with a bottle of wine.
Little tired of all these older actors and actresses being paired with some one 20 years older than them. I think…
There's plenty of young actors and actresses rom-coms.... recently there are Love Scenery, Miss Crow and Mr Lizard, The Player, Ugly Beauty..... go watch these ^^
And FYI, Qin Lan (the FL) is still beautiful and young looking. Doesn't look like his mom.... -_-"
Episode 48: I’m confused... Why the emperor got mad at Prince Han?!? Why is he being put in the category as…
Sigh this drama suffers from really bad editing. Prince Han had wanted to kill Crown Princess, although she commited suicide, he was still wrong for acting hastily, and disregarded the law.
Well, you can adapt a novel and it still make it makes sense. They do it all the time with BL novels to censored…
Yes, they cut quite a lot of action scenes. I suspect not enough budget? As the whole cast are relative unknowns at the time of drama shooting, and the sets, costumes and props look cheap. Agree on the poor script, but I love love the cinematography, the mood and the acting... haha This is one of those you-love and you-hate dramas ^^

The novel Wan Mei is opposite to the drama. In novel she was already gang raped in the brothel... and by time she was accepted into the Gui Hua City (assassins group) and went through the training, she had disassociated her body from herself (mentally). She killed and slept her way through her assignments. I think the screenwriter was adapting the novel from a different angle-- what if the same events happen but Wan Mei remains pure at heart, never compromising her body and her sense of morality? I watch the drama like a metaphor to real life-- in this dog-eat-dog world, can you maintain pure at heart and still reach the top? Different pov ^^"
I do agree drama is very weak on why Chang An and Gongzi fall in love with Wan Mei, it is not convincing. In novel, Chang An was impressed with how weak Wan Mei was when she got in and how strong-minded she became, and he fell in love with her; for Gongzi..... he saw she is beautiful and they xxx, and he realized somehow after he xxx with her, he gets better sleep.... and over time fell in love with her ^^"
Lol.... valid points, although I hold a different pov, partly becos I read a few chapters of the original novel and am impressed with how they have modified the source material into this. The original novel is a sadistic erotica-- basically Wuthering Heights + any erotica you have read ^^" They watered down the original Wan Mei a lot, you would probably have like the novel version. Unfortunately the source material would not have passed China's censorship.... maybe in Kdrama, it is possible.
