i hope when drama ends you can write a review for this and add all these great points you mentioned here π
I agree. These differences is what made SY so much more loved. WYF too don't deserve the hate she is getting. She doesn't get the free pass of hurting anyone but she realized her mistake, apologized to SY so many times. Even told him that she thinks she don't deserve him. I hate this ghosting plot but WYF's love shouldn't be questioned because of it. She just wanted to protect SY from CXD, especially when she saw how he really disrupted SY's business.
as a novel reader of TFF as well... I share the same sentiments with you about this drama adaptation.
True. I felt their high school days held so much more depth. SY and WYF really looked like they were best friends and even more. SY spent so much time with her and it made sense why he couldn't move on. Why the heartbreak changed him so much.

Exactly. Whenever I used to watch reuters, I was left confused because in the novel ,there were not many scenes of SY and WYF's school days. Except for using SZ for ice-cream date, we never saw how crazy SY really was for WYF.
I know there are some things which disappointed people in this drama but there are so many things that they did so well too. We need to appreciate that. No adaptation is a downright copy of the source. I had high expectations from it and it came out genuinely good minus a few points I didn't like but that just tells us how it is not as black and white as we see. It is grey. Everyone's way of handling problems are different. There are so many things that drama did better than the adaptation. The drama might not be perfect but it is still heart warming.
1. SY and WYF's relationship in high school is so much deeper in the drama as compared to the source. You can clearly feel SY's love for WYF. The added scenes like him going to her father's funeral, accompanying her inside the hospital, visiting Beiyu so frequently and they really talked a lot.
2. We had so many scenes from SY's POV. In the novel, I really wanted to see his POV. While reading the initial chapters, you will keep wondering why SY even love WYF. He rarely had much POVs throughout the novel except for a bonus chapter and few short insights. They incorporated the bonus chapter POV of SY's into life. They added SY's POV on their relationship in high school which I only saw through WYF's eyes in the novel.
3. WYF saving herself, even risking her own life shows how we might go to any length to protect our dignity. In the novel, it was a tough chapter to read but WYF had actually given up. Only when she realized it was 3 AM that she screamed and her uncle saved her. Here, it goes like WYF literally jumps off the window to save herself which was a really good touch though she lost her dream of becoming a ballerina.
4.SY in the drama is far more aware about WYF living conditions as he was in the novel. He was not aware how WYF was really treated in all those years. He thought she is doing well and suddenly got a shock when she expressed negativity towards life. Here, he was aware of mistreatments, her conditions. I loved how they changed the ballet arc.
5.SY was never a man who spoke a lot of cringey words but in the last few episodes, he had realized that WYF needs words of assurance so they added few of his POVs as dialogues. I personally loved it.
6.WYF's drama version is far more complex than novel version but still in ep 8, she was the first one to take initiative towards Zhong Siqiao, even when she was no where at fault. At the same time, they had deepened the relationship of ZSQ and WYF. ZSQ is aware about a lot of things and WYF do started sharing more with her.
7.SY in the drama seems so much softer and calmer than the novel one. Maybe I couldn't visualize it in the novel, but SY having tears in his eyes realizing how deep WYF's trauma runs while seeing her sleepwalk was heart wrenching. The way SY handled the food inspection, so calmly, it was another insight how SY really is. Not everyone can be that calm, especially when you know you are in the right.
8. Her mother in the drama is far more hateful. In novel, she abandoned WYF on phone. In drama, she abandoned WYF personally, even when her daughter was injured. It just makes her even more hateful and hopefully, there will be no forgiveness arc.
9.They gave CXD power. They made him far more dangerous. You can actually see he is a psychopath and creepy.
10. WYF's issues and seeking medical help included. It was not handled that well. WYF used to sleepwalk even after their marriage.
There are things I didn't personally like including DJX coming to their home, HK arc, MCY arc, but that doesn't take away the charm WYF has. This drama is going to my all time favorite list for sure. Overall, the novel and the drama, both are so dear to me. It just gives you hope that after all the dark days, you will surely see sunrise. You just have to be patient.
BAI JINGTING AND ZHANG RUONAN THE ACTORS YOU ARE πβ€οΈβπ₯β¨οΈ THEY BETTER GET THEIR AWARD π
That hospital scene was the chef's kiss. I felt it even more than yesterday's episode. The fear of loosing SY, the guilt SY had for just being a bystander in her life. It was so well presented.
"Even If I want CXD to rot in prison forever, that thought alone doesn't compare to the fear of loosing you."
And people here go doubting that the FL even love him or not. Maybe not every decision she made was right. Some were driven by fear, some for the man she dearly loved from her high school days but at the end, she really learnt her lesson and accepted her past.
I'd like to state for the record...(in the source material)they are separated for maybe 48 hours 72 at most, before…
I actually understand you completely. I was the same yesterday. So frustrated that I wanted to rip off the hair of the director who said that they will closely follow the novel. But with time, I came on terms with it. WYF looked really really better after those six months. She realized that running away is giving pain to her closed ones and she shared everything with SY. She apologized too. In one aspect it was better, she seeks medical help too. I still don't fully agree with that six months leap or her running away, but I think the director wanted SY to find out everything she had gone through and how she really struggled.
The delicacy with which SY handled WYF makes complete sense. He knows what she had gone through. People with trauma issues are sensitive. Even in real life, when we handle people who have some sorts of trauma, we tend to be more careful, considerate, patient and understanding. We can't handle them harshly. Even if at some point, it feels like your patience is wearing off, you can't completely abandon them or be harsh towards them. SY's handling of this running away was beautiful. He complained and at the same time, made her feel what she really meant to him. That he really loves her. WYF too provided him with comforting words, telling him how she had never liked anyone except him, how he was never a back up plan and how she want to be better for him.
I feel the same. I don't think we will ever interact this way again for any show. I literally made an account…
Novel was really amazing but this is one of the few adaptations that is really really good and have rewatch value. They even made WYF visit hospital, which showed that she is in the process of healing rather than love working as a medicine. Some people are salty because of that HK arc, I am too but nothing can take away the love I have towards this series. This didn't disappointed me.

These added details felt so good. They seemed so close here than in the novel. Like he accompanied her inside the hospital too. It just made more sense why SY couldn't really move on. That bus scene and how shyly WYF smiled when SY kept taking one step towards her and then sat beside her. It all makes so much sense. He spend three years with her. His yearning was so well presented. WYF had too much on her platter during high school but still she took time out, met SY and looked genuinely happy only with him.
some users now a days throw away the word SIMP so easily just because they see a ML character who has good qualities…
Aware men who loves their women, understands their emotions, don't go around manhandling them, have high EQ are called SIMP in the eyes of drama lovers. Also, he if will go around throwing tantrums, he will be called red flag.
