She had rejected him brutally in past, so her thought process is why he will do so much for a person who have hurt him. She knows he loved her in the past but the intensity of those feelings, she had recently realized about his sister told her.

What he does for her, even the FL don't know then how will others know. The ML's best friend have an inkling but ML continuously denies or will be silent. While for FL's friends, they have never seen the real Sang Yan. He was friends with WYF but not close to her friends. He comes out as cold and unbothered in front of them so it is not exactly surprising that people think he don't like her. With time, FL's best friend is actually seeing how considerate he is towards WYF.

He is even more lovable in the drama because of so many added scenes which was not present in the original novel. I have rarely seen such yearning towards your beloved in Chinese dramas.

He was connected to WYF through a game(though she didn't knew it). He saw her express negativity towards life and it kind of scared him seeing how she was not doing well so he decided to quit his old job and if I am not wrong, he was planning to live closer to her so that he can keep a check on her. It was in the bonus chapter with SY's POV.

Actually in the novel, it was not quite clear that he planned it or not, but yeah he started observing her after seeing her ballet dance while here, it seems like after military training, he deliberately created an opportunity to make her notice him.

He is a simp but he does a lot of things beside her too. He is mostly busy due to work but we only see scenes of them together. He has work, owns a bar, takes care of his little sister and have many friends. That is how the life of a normal person is.

I had read the novel and I felt the portrayal is quite aligned, given that WYF in the novel is cold and emotionally stunted. In the drama, they have added various occasions where her gentleness comes out which is a nice move. The actress portrayal is also really good. She nails emotional and nervous scenes. Her character is such that she avoids conflicts. She only speaks when it is too much for her to take. Also I liked how WYF is not completely cold here, as that in novel because in novel, she was too cold for thirty chapters, giving sassy replies at times with straight face. Also, her past was not known so it was tough understanding her.
The drama is a slowburn with melodrama so its not everyone's cup of tea so some people won't like it.

He actually lied. The only truth he told was that SY was drunk. He could see SY likes WYF, so he is just trying to add negative points about SY in her mind, saying he has a high school sweet heart or revenge thing.

In the novel, he actually woke up once in between but didn't really mind, thinking it to be a dream. Because I remember that Wen Yifan posted the incident on the blog and someone told that he might have liked her for too long that he had dreamt about it numerous times.

Though it is a spin off, the vibes are not the same. It is on the darker and heavier side due to the FL's trauma and tropes are entirely different compared to hidden love which was fluffy and has age-gap trope.

I completely agree with you. As much as I loved the novel, the writer had literally brushed it off under the carpet but honestly, most of the depressed people don't want to acknowledge it. In Asian countries, Mental health is not the highest of the priorities. It is not something impossible. She literally shuts off people. What makes you think she will listen to SY and go to therapist. No. She had pushed him away in the past, she will push him away again. She hates people interfering with her and moreover, except for SY, no one really knows about her depression. SY can see she is unhappy but he don't know about the traumas she faced. She had already said she will visit hospital and she actually did too in the novel(and I think she will do it here too).

Depression is a disease but unfortunately we as a society still don't acknowledge mental health serious.

I get what you are saying because the first time I read the novel, I thought the FL needs professional help than romance at the point. But honestly, it is not as easy as it seems. She doesn't acknowledge that she has depression or anything. The only thing she acknowledges is sleepwalking and the reason she keeps giving is that she had stressful day or bad day at work. One will only seek professional help if they acknowledges that they need it.

Even before her father's death, she is described as someone with no temper at all. She is extremely tolerant. After her father's death, she went through a lot and she fought back, fending for herself. She doesn't vent it out because she don't even know how to. She really don't feel angry. Hurt, yes. Angry, no. And moreover, I feel she keeps no expectations from people around her so it just make her more tolerable to everything, until and unless it doesn't go overboard.

ML can't force her to go to a doctor just because they have a shared history. He don't have any right. And she don't sleepwalk every night as you are saying. It is only when she had a bad day at work or something triggered her, like her mother or aunt. It had been more than six months they are living together.

I personally felt writer could have done a better job with handling of her issues because even after they got together, I didn't see her seeking professional help. But with time, she really did improved and was genuinely happy.
