Actually he is a person with high EQ. He was rejected straight forwardly and she had called him bothersome too. Now he lies lowkey, doing things for her for his own sake but not letting her know so as to not come across as a bother to her. You will notice that in high school, he was quite empathetic towards her, communicated too, and above all, he managed his emotions really well after the breakup, not holding a grudge against her for breaking the promise. The only flaw in him is that he really don't care about anyone apart from his closed ones, means he don't even respect the feelings of that person, like the woman who pursued him in highschool.
