Hmmm…I wonder if this will be tied to Hong Doek-Ro? In the old Yi-San version and in history, Hong Doek-Ro adopted Jeongjo’s nephew as his dead sister’s son (making him Jeongjo’s son) and used some officials to try and have him declared the heir. That way he would be the future King’s uncle. He was desperate to do it before Doek-Im got pregnant. The other plot was that one of the factions wanted to replace San with his half brother.
Some of this part has played out in other scenes. Like him calling her Deok-Imah so there might be a drunken kiss but hopefully it won’t be their first night?
It’s crazy that they hadn’t had the king ask for a court lady in that way in 30 years so that means he has never bedded any other court lady in the novel since the last time was his grandfather?
It was Seyoung's bday yesterday and she posted from the set on ig, if you'd like to see what she's currently wearing:https://www.instagram.com/seyoung_10/p/CXtY8IaPA8r/

Like you said he is obsessed with ensuring only he has San’s full trust. Doek-Im is an obstacle that he needs to overcome. When Doek-Im was just a court lady in wrong place, it was oh well you die. But then it became worse because she was someone that CP/King could actually care about which would stand in the way of his future plans (becoming uncle to future King) to solidify his royal connections and power.
My gosh I just watched this video before you posted it 🤣
I remember thinking about the differences in the two houses between Doek-Im and her friend. Then I thought about the difference between Doek-Ro and San. They’re like mirrors. All Doek-Im and San truly wants is a home which happens to be each other (can’t help but think of them in the private residence).

Yeah. She was special. I think it’s her personality and their interactions that endeared her to him. Also, as the poster stated in the IG post, it’s a difficult time and situation they were in. Because he had to be strict on himself, he also had to be strict on her in front of people to protect her otherwise people would hurt her to get to him. (Think that’s why some folks think she was poisoned versus natural death. Another drama even showed how difficult deliveries can be used as a way to kill a concubine)
I don't mind spoilers. Can anyone say if the Lecture is truly loyal to the CP as of episode 12?I'm on episode 5…
So you can say that he is loyal to himself and therefore loyal to the CP because the CP/King is his source of living and status. However IMO his loyalty is only there if it serves his purpose because he does a lot of things against CP’s orders.
But it was odd how they skipped the 3 years so casually. I wondered if it was in the translation? If it really…
She’s his personal handmaiden so they’ve been interacting in the professional setting as always. He just put off the romance part as he said about the mourning period.

They don’t automatically become a concubine. He has to officially appoint them as a concubine. They don’t have to be pregnant but if they do get pregnant, they will usually get appointed as a concubine for bearing royalty so that the children will have a place in the genealogy/household. Court ladies and bedroom maids of noble sons are often used as bedmates when the men are young (so they don’t go to brothels) and if lucky, once the men take an official wife, they’ll take them as a concubine.
i guess one of the main reasons i enjoy watching dramas while its ongoing than binge watching is the live discussion…
Lol…that was how my first interaction on MDL was. The cdrama started off good and went downhill so bad everyone was coming up with ways to kill off the delusional secondary characters because they occupied the entire second half of the drama.

There’s different ranks of concubines. They can just bed them or make them official concubines of the lower ranks which are still servants with status and can’t attend any royal family functions. The way to rise in ranks is to bear the King children. YeongJo had more concubines but not many had children so that’s why we only saw that one alongside the Queen as only 2 of them attained the first rank cause they had sons.
It was so symbolic that they started this with Yeongbin’s death and said that Doek-Im could be like her one day. They were both court ladies who become concubines at a late age (31 and 30 yrs old) and started off at the lower ranks.
Since so far the Queen hasn’t shown yet, I wonder if they’ll make Doek-Im the target of Hong Doek-Ro’s anger over his sister’s death and his chance of furthering relations with Jeongjo. IRL, he blamed the Queen (which was shown in the old version of Yi-San). All his actions after his sister’s death showed the depth of his ambition (to be uncle to next King) and led to his downfall.
Am I the only one that wants to see San and Deok come together as a married couple? hahahaLove is about sacrifices…
She wouldn’t be Queen. He already has a Queen that was chosen for him since childhood. She’ll be one of his concubines and she’s the only one that he chose for himself and loves. 🥰. We’re all looking forward to their union. But there is a satisfaction know that at one point in her life, she did put herself first. Once they’re together, she’ll always have a power imbalance even amongst his wives since she didn’t come from a noble background. However, because she wasn’t ambitious, she had a good relationship with the Queen and his family. Only one of his concubines was ambitious (Hwabin) but that didn’t last long.
for everyone talking about the change in chemistry or atmosphere, it was honestly inevitable. As much as I miss…
Agree, they’re doing awesome with portraying the changes in their new roles. Everything is written on their faces. I’m just waiting to see how they’re going to portray their married dynamics because I read that the palace staff noted how the King was always going to Doek-IM’s palace, especially when he was having a hard time in court. And that they were always talking and laughing.

Can we see these two in a pictorial together? Their visuals would be 🔥🔥
