This drama is an absolute masterpiece, a true 10 out of 10. The captivating storyline taught me a lot about the intricacies of internal courts, the roles of elders, the customs of arranged marriages, and the lives of concubines, first wives, children, and even maids. The actors were outstanding, bringing the characters to life in a mesmerizing way. What stood out to me were the incredible details that the director included in every scene, from the costumes and set design to the music and lighting. Everything was meticulously crafted to create an immersive and authentic experience. All in all, this drama has earned a spot in my top 5 list of all-time favourites.
I personally don't care about the number of episodes. In my mind, the more, the better if I get this quality of story, casting and directing. I never felt it was slow. The title says it all from the start: the story of Ming Lan. So, of course, it started from childhood, teenagers, engagement, marriage, and motherhood. It is neither a wuxia nor xianxia story. Thus, the pace is different with each character's development. It is all about families, women, men, and children, all interacting with the heaviness of education, morals, rules, taboos and society. Arranged marriages in societies often left love as a one-in-a-thousand chance. The resulting drama was not a mere fictional tale, making it all the more intriguing.
The main leads, a real-life couple (at that time, now divorced), deliver an outstanding chemistry in this drama that has it all - humor, romance, fights, family feuds, and palace power conflicts (mostly in the last 10 episodes). It's a true masterpiece! I found myself rewatching some episodes with pleasure, drawn in by the authentic portrayal of the historical setting and the emotional depth of the characters.
I wonder if we will have a season 3. 🤔 The web novel offers so much more possibilities
The most logical approach would be to film the entire story and edit the footage for S2 and S3, considering the availability of actors and actresses, as a few have already been replaced for S2.
After comparing the 746 chapters of the novel with the teaser, I am almost certain that Season 3 will be added. I hope the production has submitted it so we won't have to wait for its release if this is the case.
Rumors. Thanks to sjadvocate for the hard work, says S2 may air May 16!
There's a reason, it's a big reason actually. She loves him since she was a child and was trained to become his…
I can understand the reasons behind the lack of romance in the drama for over a dozen and plus episodes, but personally, I didn't enjoy it much. Even if the lack of romantic elements in the story is justified, I still prefer shows with warm and relatable characters. However, I must admit that the drama is brilliantly made, and the storyline is quite engaging. At the end of the day, it's a matter of personal preference, isn't it? And I am untitled to dislike the FL. You do you. I do me.
she loves him, she said she adores him, but she chooses freedom.after they marry, the prince feels guilty because…
If you want to avoid major spoilers, don't read the previous comment as it contains too much information about the epilogue that might ruin your experience watching this great drama.
I felt like there was a lack of physical contact in the relationship. They would gaze into each other's eyes,…
Throughout the episodes, I found myself questioning why the two characters didn't appear more intimate with each other. It felt as if there was a wall between them, and their words didn't seem to convey the deep love that was supposed to be present in certain scenes, despite few cute moments. I initially blamed the director's choices for this, but I also wondered if it was the actress's own choice to act in this way. I haven't seen her in any other dramas, so I'm not sure about her acting skills.
It's strange though, because even though I know something was missing, I still consider this drama to be one of my favorites despite its flaws. It's kind of funny, really.
I actually prefer the king and queen's romance over the lead couple. wish they had more scenes! sure I have felt…
I felt like there was a lack of physical contact in the relationship. They would gaze into each other's eyes, exchange a few rare hugs, and have one kiss that wasn't particularly romantic since it was in public. Although I adored the drama, the simple head-on-shoulder gesture didn't seem like passionate love. I can understand how the love between a queen and a king would be more palpable. This is one of my favorite dramas, but more kisses or touches would have made it better. It felt too prudish and didn't match the verbal expressions of love.
I questioned the director's choices a couple of times. The way she was dragged by the hand looked forced, and having a large table between them at one point when they needed to be close was strange. Additionally, the actress's childish attitude also being a seasoned surgeon pulling her hair was bizarre. She claimed she never cried, yet she did so frequently. It felt like she was given directions that may have looked good on paper, but were not translated well on screen. So I questioned her acting skills but I finally blame how she was instructed to act the scenes I didn't have such issue with him. So who knows?
Regardless, this drama is on my top 5 and I rewatch it regularly 😉
Having 15 episodes is a reasonable number of opportunities, which is comparable to a complete season in certain dramas. 😆 Let's end our conversation here. It is evident that you are a passionate fan, and we have different opinions. Trying to convince each other is pointless, and I truly don't care about the tone I am perceiving behind your words. Having a different opinion is fine in my book. Goodbye for now.
Ep 47 and she's really impressing me out there... She's making me forget her GGS impression
I have noticed many instances of miscasting in dramas. If you check out my profile, you'll find my opinion on 'fangirling' and how each actor and actress should be evaluated based on their performance in a particular character. There are many factors that can result in unimpressive characters such as weak script, poor direction, and improper pairing. Personally, I don't like her character in Ashesof Love and it doesn't matter how many awards she has won for her previous performances.
Yes happy ending. No open. Main couple is together and in love Some viewers missed “the hug” at the reunion. They felt it was not truly happy. But if we look closely… she cried and he was teary. The BTS showed an attempt of hugging but her hat made it awkward. They opted (wrongly in my opinion) to the stare. I think they missed the finale. A kiss would have been fantastic but obviously it was directed by a prude direction.

I was about to give up on this drama. I started watching due to the high score rating here but the first few episodes…
Ah! I am at episode 10…. Exactly that! Cheesy and childish. I am tired of the grumpy hate everyone ML, tired of wuxin who is supposed to beat everyone but loose battles, tired of the girls. Bad edits all around. The only one I tolerate is Ao Rui. Ok… will push up to 13 lol
And what the freaking heck the girl with a moustache? Her face is 100% girl even with a mask.
The main focus is the FL. it happens (xu Kai) the prince, then crown prince, then emperor falls in love hard with FL. FL on the other hand put her « career » cook first. I do not think you will find the typical arrocant scheming xu kai here. He is acting very well but his character is different as his usual roles
