It would’ve been better if there were gripping, powerful cases like the ones in Coroner’s Diary.
I did enjoyed both so I can understand we all have our pref, that's cool to discuss about it anyway : D Not many people around me to discuss about investigation period drama irl x)
I still need to finish STOTD, I saw you quote it too. As far I watched this one I loved the fist episodes, still need to go watch the rest. Did you watch Shen du Fox ? I hope there will be a second season.

Title The Wanted Detective Spoiler

I did expect a bit more than the "twin" trope I must say, as we had a cool "dark" stuff with the secret society and their way to kill. Anyway I enjoyed the show till the end everyday :p

There were cool stuff in The Imperial Coroner but Chu Chu wasn't my cup of tea. i do prefer the female lead in CD as she is not only smart, she is a normal women who has learn while chu chu under the pretense of her character being young and naive, was so clueless about many things while being smart on all coroner stuff. I mean I don't like when writer seem to feel "forced" to write a female character strong on one point and weak on all the rest, while in CD she is balanced. As a writer, I do prefer such female character.
The only thing I agree is that there was really more romance in CD than in IC and the end was a bit "predictable", less dark than the rest of the previous stories. I love the genre too and I prefer seeing woman who are balanced than just smart or strong, weak and married or strong but alone etc....
I'm happy to see finally some evolution in the depiction in woman in the last years dramas. I know many people have compared CD to IC but for me they are different. The case in IC were more "facts" and more accurate medically speaking but lacking about human interference ; while in CD many were about human emotion and perversions, lacking in fact and accuracy in some points but more on the dark side of poetry, a bit like a dark romantic criminal period drama.
Anyway I'm curious to watch the IC season 2 and how this one here will go too : D

Title Under the Skin Season 2 Spoiler
Is it just me or Shen Yi has become the center of all the cases? What I love about season 1 is the partnership…
I think it's to prepare ourselve for the case he will propably be involved in. He is not really SH but each case put him in some mental distress/doubt. It slowly appear. At the beginning of episode 10 we can see it with his words about the dead man on the ground "a vision of despair". He is already swimming into deep feelings. It will grow bigger I think in further cases. I'm sure Du Cheng already noticed it...
And he is a cop and an artist. He is both ^^ That a quote their superior made during a meeting in season 1 where she said he was a cop with fully formation too, Du Cheng made a joke by ask him how he get his uniform as Shen Yi don't shoot well during a training session x)
He is just a different kind one. Shen Yi is Highly perceptive of subtlety so of course he will find what is invisible to others. That the purpose of the drama. But Du Cheng is just prepare himself for incoming troubles x) he already saved him once at the edge of the pit in the mountain, either when he was so obsessed to anticipate crime to try avoid them to happen so he has a role of some kind of vigil right now.
We can note also that he didn't see something was off with Li Han before his superior told him to pay attention, but he saw when something was off with Shen Yi. :p I think he is quiet right now for a reason and we will discover more soon enough.

Suicide Valley was about transgender? I thought the subtext hinted she was lesbian.
I think it was implied lesbian but for cutting her hairs was to not be able to be recognize at 1st sight (1st reason as she made hard to escape) or just start fresh a new life. Some people cut their hairs after a break up x) And maybe for her understand she was different thanks to her love for her friend was the start of everything else of her changing look.
But as I said both can be true it was open enough. The pessure of her parents implied too she refuse the "perfect life of a woman/mother" so both can be true I think and not incompatible either :)

Title Under the Skin Season 2 Spoiler
Suicide Valley was about transgender? I thought the subtext hinted she was lesbian.
I read it that way too. For me lesbian was implied too. This case was very touching. I Love this serie for that Human relevant side too, in every case. There are not just murder cases as in many classics cop series, they explore what can go possibly wrong in the way of life. How we derail and/or why ? can we stop before it's too late ? What does too late even means ?
The case of Li Han is especially obvious in that way. She didn't go wrong way because other around her were open, tolerant and helpfull. So the AI didn't win over her. It implied that we can go wrong paths because of ourselves but also because we lack of people around, not just loneliness, but small acts of kindness sometimes makes the difference.
It's remind me the Hobbit way of life in Tolkien's books ^^
I think all this cases open us the way for Shen Yi case later. They planted many elements like Justice/balance, abyss/diving deep, god pretention/creation, confidence or not in vision of ourselves, fate or not, anger/despair/insomnia/illusions, moodswings... but also people around/secrets, soul support....
It interesting either to see that the case of the valley explore the notion people call fate, and in the next one the AI talks about "fate" too to Li Han to tell her what she will become based on her past, but it fail because Shen Yi talked to her and expose the present self for her to remind and for him to listen. I think we can mirror it to the discussion in the galery, when it was implied Shen Yi could have become someone else...

Title Love Is a Poison Spoiler
I love that at the end, we didn't get the classic love trope " sacrifice your dream for me to prove your love", but "become better, higher, prouder and offer tenderness to others with me as a pilliar in your life" trope. That's what I call romantic, a trust in love, in a future life with your partner.
A very mature way to depict how love support your growth

I really hope that Shen Yi doesn’t murder anyone. The trailer scared me and I’m scared that he will kill someone.…
that's what I think too and I wrote the same in my comment ^^
he seems to be a doc as we saw in the trailer and I think he will manipulate Shen Yi to the point a distance will be created between him and Du Cheng, as well between reality and suspicion, as Shen Yi seems fragile right now.
He said he don't know Shen Yi when he asked him but I'm sure it's not true
On Under the Skin Season 2 Dec 10, 2024
Title Under the Skin Season 2 Spoiler
I'm impatient to see what will happen to Shen Yi. It's seems he will dive deep into emotions of human heart and his own too. I think the glasses guy during the exhibition is a hint of something darker who will come for him, more on criminal path or a period of doubts about morality. He seems troubled and maybe it will impact his emotional stability.
We had a hint of this too when Du Cheng told them that anyone who do bad thing must face consequences, whithout any hesitation in his tone while they were discussing human morality and the deepest feelings behind what happened (end of episode 2) . We had a few seconds with an eyebrows reaction of Shen Yi which seems indicate he is not agree yet, hesitant or too harsh....
Hope Du Cheng will help him avoid troubles.
Anyway I don't feel well this glasses guy, i think he will bring troubles to Shen Yi :(

Well maybe my words will be useful for someone one day x)
