am liking your potato thoughts, agree with most of them but :

6. i guess YM is the second male lead and the love triangle so far is a pentagon (TZ/YM/YD/evil candle/zhao lan) we should understand YM love for YD because it a reenactment of YY / YD's love (somewhat) but more obsessive on YM's part.

7. i should think this will be quick because we about 3/4 of the way through part 1 of IS and TZ/YD have not had their love story YET although i appreciate the comedic injecture I want them to fall in love like pronto. am more bored because YM and evil candle are getting more screen time than the actual leads. :-)

right? and youku released the trailers to ep 30 she was standing right in the background. my arms was flailing and i was about to scream at my laptop for no reason but my dislike for that damn candle being on screen more than YY/TZ and YD combined. :-)

the heavenly emperor did say that he will write a loveless life for YY as he is doing his 'mission' as a mortal.

i just wish that the production could have really explored the importance of the hair pin and their memories because in the mortal realm admittedly TZ & YD are making new memories but it just does not make sense to keep making memories have them erased to make it seem important and where the heck is that lotus burner thingy since that the only love token that keeps being pushed even in the drama's promotional posters. (insert eye rolling here) :-)

i count only 6 episodes without that candle.

no one could fall in love in the heavens so who the heck going to compete with YY?

I agree but only because we know this is the series about YY & YD love. the twisted plot would have been if TZ was going through mortal life without having ever crossed paths with YD now that would have been really interesting. Actual plot leaning more to FATE - we are meant to meet and be together in the next life and so forth.

Before YY went through the colour pool (being transported to the mortal realm) he mentioned to Lu Ming that IF he met YD he would tell Lu Ming all about it when he returned meaning he was not sure he would even meet her at all since the world is that big.
However IF YY had retained his memories I believe he would treat YD much better and realise their dreams of being together to make up for YD suffering and their bad parting while in the heavens.

we had this discussion circa about a week before.

my take was - heavenly emperor promised YY that he will retain his memories / powers when he goes to the mortal realm for his 'mission' aka investigation on the demons.
however he was reborn as human without his memories which was not what was promised and irked all of us to no end (till now we have no idea why he was born mortal thus could not do the job he wanted to in the first place). some debated its because the heavenly emperor wants YY to be killed in the mortal realm (i basically do not agree because if TZ is killed he will return to the heavens as YY all over again so what does that matter??)
there is no conclusion to this question.

also agreed on the mortal realm, having loads of comedic scenes which is light comparison to the heavy & somber environment of the heavens.

this has been debated heavily in the last week it was akin to a discussion in parliament. :-)

sorry to insert but i think this going to be a love square or even pentagon if the cards are played out the way i see it. :-)
FL character for immortal samsara is just right free spirited not afraid even spunky although low in celestial power but big in love, loyalty and sacrifice which i agree is refreshing to dumb or weak.

lots of viewers will riot if youku changes the schedule at the last minute. :-)

that would be the logical but not practical reason in not carrying a 'luggage' bag.

the last xianxia that actually took in account of the clothe bags i watched was Love & Destiny (2019) and we (as commentators) were having so much fun wondering what those people could probably carry in such small 'bags' last disagreement was 2 changes of clothes with maybe 2 pieces of underwear.
