The novel of SOKP is better than TD, but the screenwriter of TD is really talented! She gave all the characters much more complete and meaningful growth lines and reasonable motivations and personalities, which the novel lacks. The drama producer said the costume is based on Wei (one Kingdom in the Three Kingdoms period) and Jin dynasties (220-420), which are before Han Dynasty (LLTG). For some worried about if the whole story is a big dream in the end like Scent of Time, I would say no worry at all. Since Scent of Time is original created script, while this drama is novel adapted. Novel adapted cdramas usually follow the ending in the novel. which is a happy ending here. And the reason they make the past life as a dream in the drama is only for passing the censorship. (This novel was written in 2020 btw).
ZLH is dubbed by another person in this drama because of the shortened post-production, he didn't have time to dub himself. What a pity... I love his deep voice in SOKP 🥺
This drama deserves a higher rating, like 8.8 for the drama ‘The Double’… It was just too many haters during the premiere… Xie Wei is still the best ML in my costume dramas list.❤️
