That's yet to be unveiled, but guesses are, he was involved in the great fire event 18 years ago and someone, (I'm guessing previous cat master) took his memories and cultivation away and he became like a child again.

You say like she doesn't love him at all. Okay, surely she doesn't love him as much as he loves her, but she does. Why I say so?
- She's attracted to him at first sight
- She tirelessly cares for him when his leg breaks, even expending her own powers to heal him
- When he says it's not appropriate and he will leave the Duke's manor, she gets a little heartbroken and asks "and what about me?"
- She wouldn't have gotten drunk and morose after he left if she didn't have a thing for him
- Her expressions when she saw the niece with the camellia spirit, she longed to be with MZY
- She tears up when he proposes because she feels affection for him too
Etc etc
It's not just plan and pretense, she's fallen for him too.

If you're so convinced on disliking it, then don't watch it boo boo, simple as that.

Well simply stating, MDL's ratings have been unfair with XK dramas, always receiving less than what they deserve. So, whatever ratings you really see, you can safely assume must be higher in reality because the haters downrating the eps is a fact that those of us who've been around here on MDL for previous XK dramas can verify.

Of all the ostentatious imperial harem hairdos I've seen in historic C-dramas, none were as crazy large as those of the empress in MR. Hers beat them all 🤪

This one is an undeserved 7.7 so far.

As beautiful as you was also attacked in this manner and ended up 8.1, it was surely an 8.5+ drama.

Best Choice ever was very well-appreciated in China as well as internationally, no way is its true rating 7.8.

Sword and Fairy wasn't as great as the other 2 above, but it still could have earned an 8 at least, it's rated 7.5.

Same with some others. I'm not just doing guesswork here, while the shows were on, we saw some haters had rated each episode something like 1 or 3 to bring down the overall rating.

You can check for yourself in the Episode Guide here that eps that have not even been aired have been given low ratings already (I suppose they were lower and some supporters tried to counteract it).

So yeah, I'd say it's XK haters for sure and this has nothing to do with the scandal or gossip around, coz the ratings went down way before that happened.

It's probably the hardwork of XK haters, it's been the case when any of his dramas are running. If you see the ratings of XK dramas on MDL, they're wayy lower than they would honestly be if anti-fans were not in action. Perhaps they don't want XK drama ratings to go higher than their idols' dramas. 🤷🏽‍♂️
