Sixth episode in out of eight and we get a whole episode with a flashback backstory and for once, I didn't mind it. so many times a series will breadcrumb the backstory until we know it all and then turn around and do some fever / injury induced flashback dream that goes over it all for the second time (or more). This one gave us crumbs of crumbs and then dropped in the flashback that gave context to everything all at once, but it didn't wait too long like some other series have done.
Japanese BLs are very much slice of life, self discovery, normalization, emotionally destroy you (looking at you "Eien no Kinou"), or turn you into a pile of goo with their sexy (ahhem "My Personal Weatherman") and sometimes a mix match of several of those. They definitely have the most consistently good bl series.
This wasn't bad, but personally I think it would have had the potential to be an amazing series if the secondary couple were actually the main couple and the main couple the secondary couple. The actors from the secondary couple definitely had more chemistry together than the main couple and honestly their storyline was / could have been a lot more interesting than what we got for the main couple. Most of the series the main couple either looked / acted like they were dosed up on some heavy sedatives or they really really needed a few gallons of coffee, and I'm not talking about just the acting but the characters themselves, etc. all of it.
When MAME is kept on a short leash because the series is a co-production and/or because of where it's broadcasting / streaming we always get a much better series for it instead of all the sexist / homophobic stereotypes, sexual assault, etc. That's when the actors finally get to shine with actual decent material. From the trailer, this looks like it might actually be good.
The whole getting Kang to give Moo a chance, pass or fail ultimatum, and the inevitable "idols aren't allowed to have relationships" choice is all the drama this series needs. The whole Shone thing is completely unnecessary and honestly those parts really ruin the vibe.
not everything in a source material needs to be adapted and the whole Shone storyline is definitely one that should have been left out.
oh please.. we all know almond went straight into planning the most epic which milk tastes better competition, almond or great err i mean cow milk and made sure they were the only judge.... lol :P
Beck and Can very much to their credit managed to pull off the Aksorn x Songjam chemistry and yes it was slightly different from Parky and Beck, which it definitely should have been considering the storyline. Same but slightly different is hard enough to pull off and they only had one episode to do it in.
If they do/did a special episode for this, it better have Songjam teasing Aksorn with some of the embarrassing things he did when he was a kid, etc. lol I think they could pull off some cute, funny, sexy banter.
This was a raging dumpster fire that was so ablaze that the only way to put it out was tossing Napalm on it and letting it burn itself out from episode one until the last.
Before I said this script had to have been written in crayon, I take that back, that's an insult to crayons. Instead this script had to have been written in chalk and then 90% of the script got washed away when Deok Gu pissed on it and they just said "whelp, let's go with what's left of it."
There are series where anyone could easily fill a role and it works, then there's series like this where the actors fit their characters so perfectly that you can't see anyone else filling that role.
Moo is a character that could very easily become annoying quickly, but Keen always keeps him on the cute side of goofy and Sea's Kang is right there to keep him from getting too out of control. The way those two (both characters and actors) play off of each other is so perfect, especially for new actors.
I don't care about the age gap. My BF and I have a huge age difference. But what I can't get past is how Aksorn…
Aksorn might have thought they share some similar features but in his mind Songjam is Songjam and Kyo is Kyo and it's impossible for Songjam to be in the same universe as him so it makes sense that he wouldn't connect the dots.
Yeah Asians already tend to look a lot younger than what they really are so like you said having someone 32 that still looks mid-late 20's playing someone in their 40's doesn't really work to well.
And here I thought Wandee Goodday was going to be the ultimate dose of comedy for the day.... then came here and saw the comments over episode 5 of this series. LOL
Seriously how did people not see this coming?! There's been so many clues along the way and then they whole novel thing was the dead giveaway.
-------
"WHAAAA NOW THERE'S AN AGE GAP, THEY RUINED IT!!!"
Get the f over yourselves and your BS people. They'd both be legal consenting adults, who cares if there's an age gap.
-------
Songjam literally crossed dimensions and decades of time because of their love, what more could you possibly want from someone?!
--------
Now the one negative to all this is next week is the last episode and they have to try to rebuild the chemistry, etc. of Songjam and Aksorn all over again, which no matter how well Parky and Can manage to pull it off is still going to feel way too rushed. This is going to be one of those ones where they tried to finish it in 6 when it should have been 8 series
if that ain't how the story is actually progressing. did you write it in crayon? as for the heart worm pain and…
Heartworm stage 4 is only treatable via surgery, which considering they said the dog was infested so badly that even breathing would be excruciatingly painful for him it's definitely reached stage 4. Even with Stage 3 and below the treatment can take months and the dog can't do anything but rest after treatments because of Caval syndrome which is when there is such a large amount of worms blocking blood flow to the heart that it creates a sudden life-threatening problem in need of quick surgical intervention.
The surgical option was too expensive to perform on an abandoned dog which left euthanasia as the only viable option.
So no the whole magic pill excuse you came up with doesn't work.
They wasted three episodes for the "setup" that could have been done in half an episode or less, even expanding that one it could have been done in one episode max. The whole father side story is needless and takes away screentime that should have been used to develop the rest of the story and characters better.
Uno getting type cast because of his personality and the number of jobs offers dwindling because of it so his manager forces him to do the variety show would have had the same goal / impact on the storyline without needing to waste so much time on the set up for it.
The whole series could have been done in 5-6 episodes max and been better executed for it, but they decided to pad it out for 12 episodes. There's so many other examples of ways they tried to pad out a paper thin storyline to begin with to stretch it to the 12 episodes. In the process they diluted / skipped aby meaningful character development.
Uno meets dog, Uno scared of dog, Uno has one one screen interaction with dog, boom Uno cured.... NO, just no. This is the terrible writing and execution that's throughout this series because the collaboration was the priority over story, etc.
It's a shame to because the main cast and some of the supporting cast all worked well together so it had so much potential, it was just ruined by bad writing and execution.
At this point I'd ask if the script for this series was written in crayon, but let's be honest, a little kid could write a better script.
"Even breathing is excruciatingly painful for Deok Gu right now..."
but hey let's make the dog go for a motorcycle ride and have a fun day at the park, etc....
---------------
If they had had Uno suffer from severe depression / anxiety after his mother died and Gold was part of his therapy only for Gold to end up like he did then that would have better explained his current issue with dogs, they could just be a trigger for his anxiety. This should have been revealed much earlier on instead of wasting so much of the first batch of episodes on stupid filler that wasn't necessary. Then that would have given more time for Deok Gu to be a relentless "you saved me, you're my hero, now you're my human" until Uno finally broke down and was able to accept the caring from Deok Gu.
This all of course would have opened Dae Byeol's eyes that Uno isn't such a bad guy and he could start developing feelings for him. Then they could have brought in the euthanasia storyline from episodes 9-10, had an incredibly touching moment for Dae Byeol, Uno , and Deok Gu to spend their final time together and then Dae Byeol consoling Uno. This would have brought the two of them even closer and Uno's feeling for Dae Byeol develop.
It would have helped if the episodes were a full 30 minutes long, but even at this shorter runtime it still would have been possible to tell a much better story.
Four episodes of them acting with a plate of glass between them and every single second of it they have more chemistry together than many of the working couples in Thai BLs.
