Post KP they did MS, a show abt Thai cultur, and you know it was out of passion bc Apo always talk abt Thai cultur…
I genuisly think BOC issue relied on the direction, Im not going to talk abt the biais they had toward certain actors or the way they thought being picky abt job offers was a good idea, expecially for the smaller actors, and the CEO can really go fuck off lmao, but yeah I’ll forever wonder what they could’ve been if they had a strong vision. I think BOC was at first really created as a way to save KP, you see that the CEO was the one who put the money and some of the connection, and he never had any acting or production background before it lol, which means that if it wasn’t for KP he wouldn’t be doing anything related to that industry. the company has to learn and improve with someone who himself learns and « improve » bc that’s new to him as well, and while we all always learn, learning with 16 artists under your management and all the drama you or others create isn’t the best environnement lol.
Interesting that you won’t watch Shine, I thought it could be a very interesting and new concept in this genre, listened to the music recently and they are all deep and meaningful. I wonder how they’ll hit the US market tho, noise will definitely be their strongest ally. First, Shine is released on a Asian plateform that Westerners who aren’t into Asian media and well BL/GL won’t have, so the US won’t discover SHINE by simple app recommandation or from others watching it. I see that the themes could resonate with a Western audience tho, some queer people in the West usually tend to have a bad view on BL/GL and prefer some melon dramatic stories that resonate better with their experience, and while Shine takes place in a different country, the themes could still resonate with them so let’s see if it finds a way to go there.
Agree abt the Ministry stuff, Im from a westerner country but I know that if someone there would do a collab with the gouvernement, it would be in a way that would portray it in a good way, so I wonder if they’ll be able to do high criticism with such a context. Then, while their king was respected, themes such as the erasure of Thai cultur to embrase Western views at the time could be topics that even the current gouvernement could like to point out if that’s no longer their view so let’s see.
Happy ending so far gives me the vibe of a fan fiction, I mean that could have been said abt KP as well but well idk, it’s like full of cool vibes but idk abt the story, so we’ll see. There is a political BL, Mandate that’s coming on September and will be my comparison with Shine, so I’ll tune it as well to see how both Shine and that one would handle the politic, time period etc… So far 2025 isn’t really giving tbh, but that’s been the case since 2023 like you said, so I can’t wait to see what will happen with Shine
Post KP they did MS, a show abt Thai cultur, and you know it was out of passion bc Apo always talk abt Thai cultur…
I agree with your takes, KinnPorsche had this unapologetic energy about its universe and characters that made it truly stand out. Coming from the BL manhwa space, I always felt like KP fully embraced the classic toxic BL tropes we often see online but elevated them into a high-quality production with excellent acting. That level of respect for the genre was rare. In contrast, I think a big part of BOC’s downfall lies with the people at the top, the CEOs and whoever’s in charge. Instead of building on KP’s success with new, well-developed projects, they became cocky. They got caught up in the drama around their actors and criticism of the company, choosing to show off rather than focus on what actually made KP resonate with audiences. From the timeline, it seems clear Apo stayed with them mainly because of Mansuang. It never felt like he wanted to be tied to BL forever, and fair enough. He has talent, range, and a strong fanbase that will support his work beyond the genre. But that’s not the case for everyone at BOC. They should’ve either replicated the KP formula with new novels or been more intentional with who they signed. It felt like they signed too many people without any real vision for them. The Build controversy also had a big impact. You wonder how the BBB ship would’ve developed without it, they had the kind of obsessive fanbase that could’ve made their pairing last. At least those two had an announced BL with a respected writer, but it was all wasted. Meanwhile, BOC had DFF sitting there, but instead of prioritizing it, they pushed out a reality show first, clearly more about ego than strategy. They could’ve cast the show properly and introduced the cast later, but chose the influencer route instead. What’s frustrating is that BOC had the industry’s full attention. Other companies were starting to take cues from KP’s success, like GMMTV, who finally began breaking out of their high school BL era with bolder concepts in 2023. Even smaller productions tried (and failed) to replicate KP’s vibe. That should’ve been a sign for BOC to refine their strengths, not become complacent and image-obsessed. The influencer lifestyle won out over serious storytelling. I don’t blame the artists, unless they’ve done something wrong, of course. It’s tough to survive in the entertainment industry without brand deals. But when it’s the CEO who’s flexing the influencer lifestyle instead of producing solid content for his roster, that’s a deeper issue. Honestly, the production structure they have now is what they should’ve had from the start, but hindsight is always 20/20. Part of KP’s magic was discovering fresh faces and watching genuine chemistry develop. Three years later, many of those actors barely interact anymore. And realistically, audiences would’ve lost interest anyway. It might have been smarter to work with new actors for set periods before letting them go. You mentioned Bible, and it’s true. Whether it’s him, Build, or others from KP, they’re now trapped in those roles because they haven’t had the chance to show broader acting range. Bible fans always joke about how “Vegas changed” in new series. Build fans live in their own world. Even with new pairings like Jobbas, people still see KP. Apo seems to be the only one who’s managed to step out of that shadow. When people see his content, they don’t immediately associate him with KP, probably because of his fanbase and well luck and direction. At the end of the day, BOC turned into a production house that worked well for a few actors, not a cohesive group. Just look at how much they’ve downsized, maybe for financial reasons, but now they have 1 MUA anda few managers stretched across 15+ talents. It’s not sustainable. And their push for “equality” among artists backfired, how do you create equal opportunities when some actors can book five brands and others barely one? They’re now hiring new staff, which is a good sign. Hopefully it leads to a better focus on content and fairer support across their actors. The other issue is the scripts, they’ve had too few proper screenwriters, which is why every show post-KP has felt a bit off. KP had two seasoned directors and a former big TV actor involved; the difference shows. I’m hopeful for Shine, though. Unlike DFF or 4M, it’s set in a defined historical period, which gives structure to the story. That alone can give the show a strong foundation, as long as the screenwriter rises to the occasion and delivers compelling inner conflicts and love stories. That said, Mansuang had similar potential and still underwhelmed, so we’ll see. If Shine succeeds, it could restore some of BOC’s credibility, especially with investors. It would show they can produce a well-received, mature gay series featuring both established and rising actors. Let’s just hope they don’t fumble it, again.
Long rant as well but there is just too much to say abt that company haha
it’s a trailer, not meant to spoil out a whole story. While rewatching I get why you could feel confusion but…
Fair, personnaly loved the music and the cuts bc they made me curious but I get why it can look weirdly edited, tbh they weren’t even done filming I think when the trailer dropped. In the end, the final result aka the serie on air will talk for itself
I’m not sure if this is the place to say this but I’m gonna do it anyway. Am I the only one who feels like…
Post KP they did MS, a show abt Thai cultur, and you know it was out of passion bc Apo always talk abt Thai cultur in a positiv way. DFF was a cool concept of horror BL, bold and interesting move. 4Min was supernatural and well, it will as well bring certain type of fans. No one ever hit KP success, not BOC and no one else. I don’t know how they’ll end, let’s see Shine first but they entered into the BL market and apparently there bold moves are only liked once before going back to normal. Being ambitious is a crime nowadays. Well if they want to stick to BL bc you think that’s what they need to humble their ass they can do so but pls free Apo ong.
i love love love the concept for this show but imo the trailer was so poorly edited. i think if the trailer had…
it’s a trailer, not meant to spoil out a whole story. While rewatching I get why you could feel confusion but also? It perfectly hints what the main themes and struggles of the show could be, which makes it a good trailer imo. But I can get the frustration, well if they nail episode 1 like they did for KP aka introducing all the main storylines we’re about to follow, you shouldn’t stay in the dark for too long so don’t worry ;)
BL fans never decline the internalized mysoginy allegation bc wtf he’s acting like a princess and not. prince?…
No, I’ll cut short it’s 2025 use your words carefully. You can use female words to reduce a male character and then talk abt twisting words. His character is a weak and inconsistant spoiled brat? Says so! The English language is rich enough without you having to use princess, look at European princesses in 21 th century, all educated, skilled in many sports including combats so they most likely wouldn’t cry bc of a small bruise after a bike accident. I believe the words we use can help to deconstruct old steoreotyps, and in a BL space where most characters are male, managing to use female versions of words speaks a lot. You may not be mysoginist but we can agree that using the word princess to define Khanin behavior as a PRINCE is indeed the result of a mysoginist image, just like men using words degrading women to insult themselves, they might not think directly of women saying so but we know where those come from.
BL fans never decline the internalized mysoginy allegation bc wtf he’s acting like a princess and not. prince?…
so how do you go from calling Ava a strong princess to say Khanin behaves like a princess = behavior,g the totally opposite of Ava? it’s 21th century gang. Notice how you didn’t say he was feminine, you straight up said he was behaving like a princess, or am I missing some queer labels here? Last time I checked being a « feminine man » doesn’t mean you’re referred to with female names, he’d still get called a prince. Also princes are as spoilt as princesses so you didn’t need to put the princess label on him lol, look at European monarchies
I'm so disappointed with The series after that long wait 🫤First of all, I dont know about y'all but when watching…
BL fans never decline the internalized mysoginy allegation bc wtf he’s acting like a princess and not. prince? expecially when you have princess Ava in the same serie are you alr? His character is just shit, it would have been the same case if he was a woman, being a princess has nothing to do with that
I got a 30sec JO scene, and useless ZNN scenes that could have been better cut. I’m sad that the production think showing them more make more people happy while in fact, even smaller appearances but straight to the point (whether the point is to be straight or nuanced) could work sm better
y’all need to stop with your edgy comment bc notice how it’s called squid game and not whatever bullshit unknown…
famous for people born before the 2000 maybe, just saw the artstyle and no it doesn’t speak to my genZ self, so even if it was a remade version of Kaiji, it’s better to have it in a new format bc one thing for sure is that I wouldn’t have vibed with the artstyle of the manga
