Title The Tale of Rose Spoiler
I don't really hate FXW. In a way, Rose was also at fault. He was okay from the start until he met ZGD. It just…
He didn't love Rose. He wanted to possess her, that is something different from love. She represents everything he cannot achieve: class, culture, self esteem, confidence, beauty, grace, sophistication, good general knowledge, manners, etc. He's like an elephant into a china shop.
If he loved her, he accepted without any hesitation the epidural - no man can bear to know his beloved wife is in pain. He didn't use the months of pregnancy to read all possible about a woman's body in pregnancy, about birth and post partum. He only listened to his mother - which enjoyed to see Rosie in those pains, because "a woman should suffer when gives birth" ... BBBrrrrr ... What a monster!
When she, overwhelmed with fatigue due pregnancy, started to cry when saw his mother being over limits with her lack of respect speaking their dialect with the purpose to exclude her from mother-son conversations, he didn't even try to give her some comfort. He said "Hormones" and gave her some napkins. No hug, no calming words, like "It's your fault, put yourself together and endure".

He's lacking empathy and that is a sign of mental illness. He lied, sabotaged her, put a track on her phone, took her money, treated his own friends with disdain when he took all those decisions in the firm without hearing any opinion from their part. He IS mentally sick. He is paranoic at least.

I am thinking how he would educate a son .... what a monster that young man would become. Or, if the son would be like Rose, what an unhappy and fuc*ed up person would be. He was indifferent about the daughter, he wanted only to use her as a pawn in his battle with Rose. A son would have been another story.

If you observe Susu and their boss' life experience, Rose will go through the same challenges ie. marrying the…
At the time they were together, Rose was only 22 and a student. She graduated years after they broke up. She had no career yet, he was her first love and she didn't know much about anything.
He asked her to follow him to Paris - in that way she should give up her studies, she could not speak French and she would have depended 100% on him. He took the decision to leave to France without even asking her about what she feels or thinks.
He used her feelings for him, in that way I said about him he is a user. He took everything she had from her, giving back what? The name of "Mrs. ZDG"? When she was in Paris and looked at him through that glass and told to herself "We are just passing one by the other", she knew they will not be together. Being with him it meant to give up on herself, to own identity, to put all her life in his hands and forget about anything she could do in her life ALONE. That's why she left him without saying "Goodbye", even if she loved him desperately. Giving up on herself is something she refuses. Her divorce happened on the same premises, FXW asked her to be only a housewife and a mom. The same ZDG did, in another way, more sophisticated and classy. She would have just been a "trophy wife" for ZDG, beautiful, cultured, well mannered, an ornament hanging on his arm at events, parties, exhibitions, etc. Their relationship would have never been on equal terms. He provided and she only should smile to the cameras. She was not "at the peak" of her career, she was an intern in that art gallery, as a student in art.

She didn't quit to prepare to give birth. The creepy husband made that in her name, she even didn't know. There are many things to say but I would stop here. Maybe we watch different series.

You cannot and shouldn't expect to change someone. And if you change yourself for the sake of someone, then who are you anymore?
If you want to change someone, that means you don't love them. Love means that you like that person in the way they are. Otherwise, who do you love? :) "I love you but I don't like you"?

Be single. No man is good enough for me, I have found.
Divorced once. If you cannot make it work, better to part ways. Life's too short.

After some years (9) I got married again. I've been married for 21 years now and still going strong. "Life is like a box of chocolate. You never know what you're gonna get." :)
The only rule in life is to learn from your own mistakes. You make them anyway, but don't be so stupid to make them again.

Be optimistic. That man/woman for you is out there somewhere. Just wait to meet him/her. :)

Depends on what you have to give up and how much and what you compromise. There are things so precious for someone/fast principles for living in this world - they would never compromise with them.

How would it be if Rosie would make a compromise and accept FXW's demands? It would go against her own persona, she would have to become another person completely. She would become FXW's slave. A factory to produce children until he gets his desired boy and he would always find some more to ask from her. Her body would not be hers anymore, would be his to do whatever he wants with it. Would that be a compromise to make?

And he wants a son from her! She is slowly distancing herself from him.He hasn't seen it coming.
There are some people in this world that can't be considered humans, whatever rational or logical some might be to them.
Look, Rosie is rational and logical to them. It doesn't work. The only thing she can do is to leave. Sacrificing maybe a lot for her and her daughter's freedom. But doing that for both of them, if she stays in that marriage that little girl would be damaged for life.

Rose is the issue. She could have said no to the marriage when she had the chance. She married him because he…
He didn't ask her, he just took the decision. He was planning her life "Move to Paris with me" or "I need 3 years to have the right to apply for permanent residence. You wait for me." Never asked what she wanted, what was her dream, what she thought about her future. No, he was that one with money and she should just follow.

Not Rosie.
I don't think she didn't marry him because she didn't want to leave her family. She left her family behind in Beijing to study in Shanghai. She didn't visit them very often, her mother had to come to visit instead.
She went to Paris to see how would her life look like if she accepted ZDG's conditions - she left without even saying "Goodbye" to him. And then cut him off completely. It was because she understood she would give up on everything she wanted, her own future, career, dreams... for a very selfish man driven by career. She would always wait for him like that, seeing him through a glass, how he smiles and takes the glory and she would be only "ZDG's wife".

This is how I see it. Rosie's a complex woman, why do you think she wants to work now, after so many years of being home and raising her daughter? She could be "FXW's wife", using his money, making him 10 kids, etc. But NO.
Rosie has to be Rosie. Not mother Rosie, not wife Rosie. Just Rosie, truthful to herself.

It looks like you had a nice mother-in-law. Easy to put her on her place. Not that nasty like the one in this drama.

It should be hard to endure even if you're not grown up in the West. It's 2024, not 1524 :) Sometimes traditions and habits are toxic and they have to be erased. By law. If they go against women's rights for a good life, why should these stupid mentalities and traditions be kept? Only to torture some women in the name of ... what?
If women are considered to be "only" women, like that awful mother-in-law said "it's only a girl, why spend so much on her milk?" - then all these awful persons will continue to torture other women.
What is more shocking is all this malice was coming from a woman. A woman saying about her own granddaughter "she is only a girl". What an useless human being...

She didn't want to marry ZDG. She left him. And even if she has some feelings back for him, she knows that would be a big mistake to marry him, he would always put his career first and not their marriage. She can't accept a man who isn't giving all, because she is giving all she has into a relationship. In addition, all that happened in the past between them will always be there like a dark shadow. Some grudge in both of them, like a worm eating their marriage from inside.
The problem is that she married an even worse man and she will find this out only later.

The brother has his own story from ep1 to the last. He's a permanent presence in the series. All episodes are like 50%-50% of the time about him and about Rosie. Those men, even if they are celebrities, are only passing through Rosie's life. They are not main leads therefore. Understand?

Rose has unlimited amount of love to give, she is a "giver", while the men she loved are only "users". They received everything from her and gave nothing good in return. Selfish bastards :))

And he wants a son from her! She is slowly distancing herself from him.He hasn't seen it coming.
And if there is no son as nr. 2 child, he would insist for it, even there will be 10 girls and Rosie has no chance to get rid of him afterwards. He wants her deeper and deeper in his mud.
Stupid idiot without any general knowledge. The man and not the woman is the one who gives the sex of the child, so it's him and not Rose who "makes" the boy :) I think he is mentally in 12th century. "Only a girl" - I sit here and boil with anger :)
About that epidural he and his mother didn't want to accept because "The woman HAS TO SUFFER when she gives birth" - disgusting sadists! He had months to read and learn everything about giving birth. His mother enjoyed to let Rosie to suffer in great pains and he is too stupid and emotionally depending on his mother at his age to do something good for his own wife.
Anyway, the actor deserves all accolades for his acting. Not that easy to play the bad guy.
