She married FXW 3 years after she left ZDG. She didn't jump in a relationship and she didn't know how creepy FXW is, she saw all that only after they got married.

She was 22 and in love for the first time. Of course he was superior to her, in any aspect. She didn't know much about life or love. She loved ZDG with passion and put all she had for him in his hands - but he chose his career instead of her. There were 3 years after when she married FXW - she gave herself enough time to heal those wounds and to be able to start a life with another man. She was honest to FXW when she married him. She didn't love him in the same way like she loved ZDG, it was another kind of love. The problem are FXW's mental issues. She has never expected from FXW to become what he is now. She knows now her own mistakes, she grew up and she's doing a great job as a mom and a wife. Thinking of how unbearable that monster and his mother could be, she is doing great. Can't wait to see how she will manage to cut those mother+son nightmare monsters out of her life.

Rose has self esteem. If she didn't have, think how she would have reacted at her husband and mother-in-law's insults and malice. See how calm and polite she talks to both of them, how she prefers to keep her mouth shut, even if that creepy husband provokes her every single day. She refuses to go down to their level, she respects herself too much. She made mistakes and she knows that now, but she is a woman with class and good education from her parents. She avoids quarrels in front of their daughter, too. She wants her daughter not to see them in awkward situations, saying all kind of nasty things to eachother and learn to do so, at her turn.
She dominates by looking to the person in front of her, remember the reaction of that girl who told her that FXW is her boyfriend, pulling her on the sleeve of her coat. Remember her words to her mother-in-law "FXW's words are not orders", the look in her eyes and her mother-in-law's similar reaction.
She is living a hell, she's into a very shitty situation, but she never ever lost her control - but once when she was pregnant and felt overwhelmed. But then she saw that FXW wouldn't help her and never did that again. She has a very dangerous husband, a very nasty mother-in-law, she has a child to take care of and to teach well, she has to go through all these with dignity and be more clever than him. She preserved her grace and beauty, taking care of herself reading books, nourishing her spirit, seeking beauty around her and inside her, keeping intact her sanity, buying flowers, etc. BTW, have you ever seen her husband reading a book? He has a university degree - but this has nothing to do with the level of culture. He's a gorilla compared to her.
She is the embodiment of self esteem.

Rosie has a very strong personality and I can say her daughter is like her. She's been told not to touch those eggs and she did exactly the opposite :) To test limits, from curiosity and to fight against her father who makes her feel she's not good enough because she is not a boy. Rosie was like her daughter in her past, doing what she wanted without thinking on consequenses. That breakdown she had in Guo Dong's apartment, smashing everything to pieces and making so much noise that the neighbours called the police...
The daughter - of course she can drink milk without spilling it on herself - but she wanted to have her mother's attention because she knows her father will go crazy. She's smart :) He would have yelled at her but she knew her mother would ask to clean herself in a calm and natural voice.

Rose is much changed now, much more grown up. I don't know if "the first guy" can mean something to her at this stage in her life. He is also controlling, hiding things from her, taking decisions without asking her about.... I don't know if Rosie would be able to fall in love with him again.
Maybe he wants her back but she evolved, he's not enough anymore. She would have died for him in the past but now she knows better.

Everybody could see because we saw all he did behind Rosie's back. But she didn't see all his actions, all he did was kept secret.
I wonder now that girl who tried to tell Rosie "Leave him alone, I am his girlfriend" - how did he make her to forget about him? Did he hit her? What was his way to make her stay away? Maybe we'll find out somehow, later.

I don't know how many people would have realized how bad her husband could be.
He knew very well how to hide his true character. After being in the 1st relationship, where she was always put on the second place after the career, this creepy man was looking like exactly the opposite. Rose was flattered and very impressed by his efforts, his attention, his sacrifices and his struggles with his poverty. She thought this guy trully loves her. They were living in the same space for 3 years! This is how persistent and stubborn this monster was, Rose thought she knows him after this time.
And when she understood that there still are strong feelings for Guo Dong, she is weak and maybe he will convince her to go back to him, she made the next step to marry the monster. That was what that creepy husband waited for so long time, to find a moment when she is very vulnerable and played his act perfectly. 99% of all women would fall into that trap if they were in her situation at that moment.

Nobody analizes themselves - any psychologist/psychiatrist would ask another phychologist/psychiatrist to do that. You cannot be objective if you try to do it on yourself.

I am waiting now for her to put herself together, all those pieces that make The Real Rosie, that ambitious, clever, self esteemed and very well educated woman and give him a blow in his most painful spot. And make him hurt for life. And his crazy mother.

Whatever circumstances were in the past, the way he is now is unforgivable. He's a grown up. He should try to find a psychologist or to seek some treatment - but he is not even aware of what he became.

Look at Su, she has almost the same background, her childhood is even more traumatic. Her present is also awful, her family is awful, pressing her to the limits. She reacts on the moment concording to that trauma (the bathtub business) but later she acknowledges her own mistakes and try to say "Sorry" in her very harsh and clumsy way. Her mistake is that she knows her problems but she is not explaining to Zhen Hua what that bathtub symbolises for her. He's a bright man, would understand her and her reaction. But she is keeping too much inside without opening to him. I can tell you that is terrible frustrating for him, because he loves her.

While Rosie's man is just a gorilla. No traumas except his huge ego being hurt by educated and sophisticated people. Like Rose. His inferiority complex dominates and he isn't even aware - has no empathy, no emotional intelligence, nothing. Not even when she cries, he's not trying to comfort her, even if she is pregnant! He says "Hormones" - even if there are only the hormones, a real man should hug and try to calm her down. He's only giving her napkins... I would have slapped him long time before that.
He has only hate for Eric and his type of man, who studied abroad and made a career there, while he's only a "redneck" without any general knowledge and horisont. He refused to hire that capable young man in his firm only because he studied in USA - he felt inferior to that kid and he couldn't bear to see him every day at work.
His intelligence is only used in how to block Rosie, how to hide things from her, how to sabotage her life and her attempts to get out among people. He knows she is very bright and beautiful, she attracts people like a magnet and he is sick with jealousy. He doesn't love her, not really. He only wants to dominate her and to possess her. It's not love. It's sickness.
At the beginning of their relationship he deified her as a goddess, thinking she is untouchable. Now, that she is married to him, the goddess has to stay locked at home, nobody is allowed to look at her or speak to her.

What a journey, ha?

Anyway, for me he is already way too toxic. And dangerous, too. Very offensive. He still thinks that she cares about money. I suppose she will trade the custody of their daughter with her shares in their firm.
I would have left him since the pregnancy. Better for a child to have a happy mother and live into a peaceful and harmonious environment, even if there is no father. As long as the mother is not like that man's mother, who raised her son alone, too... She only provided him with material things and how to keep a grudge for life and to hate the people above him in any aspect. Instead to learn and try to become a better person. He maybe is a capable system engineer (or whatever he is) but from the human point of view he is just a piece of sh*t (sorry). He grew on the professional level, making money, thinking that is enough to make a woman happy. But on personal level he still is and always will be the peasant with no manners and horisont, the best what his little village could send to the world.
I hate all men like him, fictional or real. Too many unhappy and ill women in the world because of them. I am a woman, as I said before. He thinks that because Rose has a child with him, he could do whatever to her. But he doesn't know, has not seen yet the warrior in her.

30-40%? In my opinion is 100%. He does everything to put her into a cage, to make her penniless and depending on him completely. To forget about herself and dedicate all of her only to him.
I have just wrote above something very similar to your comment :) But I can say that I hate him. Because I am a woman.

Those women must live in some stupid countries where family is everything and husbands have too much power. If the family looks like the mother-in-law and the husband like this man, there must be some governmental and lawful tools made available to be used by those abused women. Some people that could pull the alarm signal for those women, because after many years living in these circumstances they are not even able anymore to discern good from evil.

Same here. In which century those 2 people live in? That man's the proof that the level of school education has nothing to do with that ground education we receive from our parents in our first years of life. Those principles we are taught to respect other human beings, the real values we should respect in life in that way to be good humans. That man had nothing to learn from his own mother. The problem is he is a grown up now and should be able to see the patterns his mother is thinking in order to control him and Rose and in this way to destroy their marriage. She knows that Rose is too good for them and she tries to dominate her by force, suffocating her freedom and trying to create all the time conflicts between her son and Rose. She wants to "devide and conquer". Poor Rose...
I saw some trailers from the next eps, Rose will live with them some years from now. How can she endure?... I would smash all those pots and pants in their heads.
But I live in another world...

He's like a ticking bomb. Now he is quiet and obedient and in next second he becomes a beast without any control over himself. He could kill that man - he has a killer's instincts. And at that point, he didn't even know Rose that well. He has mental issues. His circumstances (poor, inferiority complex, his mother's influence, etc) are only the tip of the iceberg. He's a typical kind of criminal, killing somebody in a moment of rage without knowing what he's doing at that moment.
He thinks that money could give him the class and security, the prestige he saw in Eric. He's totally fake, when he accepted the food paid by Eric and he gave it to Rose saying that he bought it - he lost there everything. That was the moment of that click in his brain, the path he took without return.

I think that kid would be the only good thing coming out from that marriage.
The bad thing is that she must share the custody with that deranged man and his mother. She spends too many years with him. Life is too short to waste it like that. A child learns nothing good being grown up into a toxic relationship.

Exactly. First one thought only on his career and now wants Rose back because she was cutting him off, it was something he couldn't control and conquer. She was like the wind, he could not hold her in his hand. I suppose he will end dating and maybe getting married to that arrogant and envious Han Ying woman, in this way she would set a foot in Su's door.

The husband frustrates me beyond any limit. What a creepy monster! And also his mother. A monster born from a monster. He's not even close to deserve Rose, she is above him in any respect. She's losing years of her life being married to him, she should just leave him even pregnant. He will never ever be a normal man, he is not able to trust and be trusted by any woman. Maybe only one who had a lobotomy previously, somebody without personality and just accepting to be moved from here to there without any opposition, a robot who just follows his and his mother's orders.

About the 2nd Joe (the younger, there are some years difference between him and the 1st Joe who was 30 when he died - in the novel), it is not about psysical resemblance but more his gestures, the way he moves his body, his facial expressions, the way he reacts in the same situations the old Joe also was in, the words he speaks in those situations. When Ming and Joe are in intimity, Ming has the feeling of familiarity, like he knew this new Joe even if they haven't met before. Even the smell of Joe's body is the same as the smell of the old Joe :)
And the feeling he has that this new Joe hides from him something very important, Ming is very frustrated. Because he obstinately refuses to believe that Joe (the older) is dead, he waits for him to show up and to give him the chance to redeem his own mistakes, to let him ask for forgiveness and start all over but in a good way. He still has hopes to find Joe, after 2 years. Everybody tells him to forget it and start living again, but he refuses. When he saw the new Joe first time, he saw the old Joe. They look very similar, especially from behind :) But they have the same body structure, the same measures, moves, lines. And NAME! Their faces are completely different, but Ming can feel something in this new Joe that intrugues him and helps him to calm his longing for HIS Joe :)
And as the time goes, this new Joe starts to be more and more like the old one.

If you read the novel, it is about a trailer of one of Tong's movies - Joe's first job as a stand-in. It's filmed with Joe doing the whole job and then in the end of the trailer, the hero shows his face and that is Tong's. It's not that crazy as you think. Ming thought the whole scene was performed by Tong. Ming was only 20 years old and his first time out in the city after a long period of time in USA at university. And his first time falling in love.
In the novel it was about a scene filmed in water, the hero had to jump from a high cliff into the water. Joe's movements were very beautiful and gratious, his body was looking very well proportioned, his way of swimming very elegant, bla bla... You fill the blanks :)

He has money, new money made from business and acting but cannot compare to Ming.
Ming is rich and from a prestigious military family, his grandfather is a powerful politician. Ming's family has a long "pedigree", power, politics and money going back some hundreds of years. Ming is a prodigious young man, having his own money, he started as 22 his own company and now, 2 years later, he makes lots of money being independent economically. Because he is gay, his family keeps him somehow at a distance. But not for long, there will come much pressure soon. Tong's words dripped in Ming's parents' ears, especially Ming's mother.
Tong wants to have control over his in-laws through Ming and Ming's sister (he married her for the money). So he needs Joe out of Ming's closeness, because Ming would pay all his attention and feelings to Joe and Tong would become remote, losing his influence on Ming. He plays the worried brother-in-law with Ming, saying that Ming's sexual preference is going against nature and Ming's family plans and interrests. But actually is his own plan to become the head of the family and control the power and their money.

I have just read the novel, if they go along with it, things start to be very tense in a short time.
Be optimistic, Tong will goooooooooooo away :))
