Actually, if im not wrong, My Journey to You finished filming a while back, but because they kept a tight lid on all the information about the show's shoot only recently small amounts of images and information have been leaked.
So, I have a theory: SGD is actually a Nanyin descendant. He wants to return Nanyin to its glory and so he disguises himself and learns martial arts with LXY. Perhaps his intent was to somehow use LXY in his plan. But he didn't anticipate that he was no match for LXY and that LXY would turn out to be so righteous, making a lot of his plots flop. He knew that the only person capable to fighting LXY comparatively on an equal level at that time was DFS. So, he schemed to fake his death and use it as a way to get LXY and DFS to duke it out, hoping the two will end up killing each other.
Once those two are gone, he has control of the whole Jinyuan and has control of the martial world as there is no one smart enough and strong enough to stop him. As for the cloud iron, im guessing the idea was that if someone suspected something amiss about his faked death, then once they start investigating, they will most likely come to the conclusion that LXY was the one who killed SGD and thus ruin his reputation all together, thus leaving no one on his side.
Perhaps other than the Nanyin aspect, he may also have a strong inferiority complex towards LXY as he is older, and perhaps has some kind of special descent (relating back to maybe some important figure in Nanyin) as compared to LXY who has no special background. But the fact that he still was nowhere near as good as LXY perhaps made him despise LXY all along.

Yeah. There are some dramas that are aired like that. To ship someone was also like that. I think IQIYI does this a lot with like the 24-episode modern dramas.
In the case of the increase in number of episodes, maybe IQIYI might release the variety show episodes as part of the show after it ends rather than a different show along side the drama. Hence there is an increase in number of episodes to reflect the inclusion of those variety show episodes.

Just checked the IQYI mainland page and SOKP is among the first few tv series in the upcoming list. Plus it has more reservations than any of the movies or shows on the site.
So it seems like Mysterious Lotus casebook really will air on the 23rd. The IQIYI mainland site has uploaded like 4 videos on its page and the show is listed along with the currently airing shows rather than the upcoming list. A full official trailers are also there.

Youku has now announced a new set of dramas coming in the next few days including the anticipated Princess and the werewolf. By the end of the week, youku is gonna have a slew of pretty nice-looking costume dramas, some with traffic stars and some not. BUT why is IQYI so slow. If Mysterious Lotus casebook also doesn't air today as rumoured, are they gonna forgo this month's viewerships or what? Hopefully they will grow some sense and drop a few of the upcoming dramas within the next few days. And maybe, just maybe they could drop SOKP suddenly by the end of this week!!
