Absolutely! These actors deserve more recognition because on top of having real skills, they usually look the part. I am sick of the milk boys posing as generals who lack the core strength to even do wire work properly. They probably couldn’t even lift a real sword or spear.

It’s a bit difficult to update things at the moment as guest appearances are usually only confirmed after the dramas wrap (and without official confirmation MDL cannot be updated). Normally, fight scenes on horseback are done by stunt performers, but Zheng Ye Cheng always does them himself…
There are actually quite a few actors who do their scenes themselves. I have recently seen a similar scene (horse rearing and rider brandishing sword) done by Xu Zhengxi and he is a good ten years older than Zheng Yecheng 😎 and didn’t have any martial arts upbringing. I have also seen Yu Shi galloping at full speed while shooting arrows 🫢 As a horse rider I am absolute in awe at their skill and courage! Many of these scenes are much more difficult (and dangerous) than they look to the average viewer.

In terms of costume and makeup quality, this is Da Cheng’s best drama so far. I really wish it were a long one…
It’s a general trend that fewer long dramas are made. This is the industry reply to both limited financial resources and the surge of short-length dramas. I think that quality is more important than duration and all the bits that I have seen so far look fantastic.
