I somehow get the impression, though that they changed this in the drama version. I don’t think the emperor will be the ultimate baddie because the Chines don’t like the ultimate authority challenged (or worse, overthrown).
This isn’t correct. The Emperor only THINKS he is his son and Madam Pei doesn’t correct him. He had her husband killed, so she hates him, but letting him believe this is safer for her son.
It’ a nice drama to watch so far, the first three episodes were very good with lots of stuff happening. I was a bit disappointed with episode 4 as it had a lot of trivial childishness and typical tropes. Compared to the novel, it has been watered down quite a bit to include the typical nonsense (playing maid, flicking stones, wiping the sick heroine’s forehead, etc) that people are familiar with.
Just to clarify the situation for everyone. There was a long article summarising an interview with Jeremy published yesterday. The interview was given last week, when he was in Beijing. In it he explains in detail the complicated situation with his sick father who is suffering from Parkinson’s Syndome. In this conversation he also confirmed his decision to return to acting because in the meantime the family situation has been stabilised (his dad is in a nursing home now as he requires around the clock care). We do not have any information for the moment as to how and when he will take up any projects. As I said in a post further down, the explanation regarding his family situation, whilst true and legitimate, can only be regarded as the “official version” to cover his conflict with the agency. I can only hope that a satisfactory compromise has been found that will allow him to fully develop his acting potential beyond the stereotypical roles in costume dramas. It’s not really a love triangle. It’s two people getting together and a third person eating his heart out in silence. I really would hate it if they changed this.

Yes, the thing with Cui Liang is only hinted at, but I think that’s what happened. He always had a soft spot for her from the start, but for her it was only a brotherly relationship.

The “thing” between FL and SML was never explicit. I think she had budding feelings for him at one moment when he was sick and the SML definitely fell for her. The way the novel is written, over the first 30 or so chapters, you will think the SML IS the ML with the typical teasing and bickering. The SML makes an ill-judged move on her when she tells him that she is leaving (he panics) and she hates him for it. When the SML learns of their relationship he warns the FL that the ML’s situation is complicated and her happiness may not last. He is heartbroken and crushes an innocent porcelain cup, but he doesn’t do anything to come between them. He has no other love interest in the novel. His mother makes him marry a concubine for tactical reasons, but he dislikes that woman (chokes her a few times…)
Just finished watching latest trailer! ITS BEEN SO LONG FOR ME TO FEEL THIS WAY AFTER ONLY A TRAILER OF A DRAMA…
Yes, the novel is BE, but not in a bad way (if that makes any sense at all). She accepts that he has to do what he has to do and treasures the moments she gets to spend with him even if she doesn’t know what the future will bring. I actually hope they won’t change the ending because it would take away a lot of the tragic beauty of the story. Sorry, AR-fans…
How many times Allen grab her throat 😂 in just a trailer we already see few times so imagine how many times…
He is quite violent towards her in the novel, especially in the beginning. I guess they had to tone it down for the drama, so there is a lot of throat grabbing…

It’s sad, but I still like it.
Please use a spoiler tag, when talking about the ending.

But it’s fine, I like his singing.
I think we are all at times struggling with the Chinese numbers…
