Yeah, I hate it when they squeeze in the romance just because there HAS to be some. I would be fine with watching it just for the political schemes. And if it has to be there, why is the romance always so childish? That lovers-because-we-grew-up-together trope is so lame and overused. With mystery I meant the bit with the guy buried in the sand. I hope we’ll find out more about that…
Watched three episodes of this and here’s the verdict…
It starts off with a bang and the mystery is very intriguing. In the first two episodes the pace is good but it somehow slows down a lot in ep. 3. I like the political intrigue and Liu Yu Ning’s poker face. He just never disappoints when it comes to charisma. The gaga-bleating female and the childish attempts at romance feel totally superfluous and rather annoying. I went to do the washing up while they were talking and I’m sure I haven’t missed anything. Somehow, with their similar hairstyles all the guys (minus LYN) look alike and I have trouble telling them apart…
I’m enjoying the drama and reading comment section. It was fun and peaceful until ….My two centsThere is a…
I fully agree with you. I’ve had many gay friends long before it became fashionable, but I don’t need this forced wokeness shoved into my face in every show that I watch. True equality will be when we no longer need to make a song and dance about it. Also, as Freud already said, sometimes a chair is just a chair. Not every bit of camaraderie between guys is of a sexual nature. I find it very strange that the tiniest bit of closeness between men is over interpreted whereas nobody would suggest the same if it were between two women…
Come on, MDL, what’s going on with the rating? This really confirms my theory that on MDL lack of pretty boys is a much greater offence than lack of plot or acting skills.
Am I the only one who keeps falling asleep while watching this drama? It has never happened to me before no matter…
Maybe you’re just tired. If you’re relying on subtitles it’s easy to fall asleep if there’s a lot to read. Or this drama just isn’t your thing. It happened to me during the Mysterious Lotus Tower. It doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a bad drama…

I think you will like his role in Love of Nirvana then. I wouldn’t call it morally grey, but very conflicted and tragic. I really liked this character when I read the novel and I hope that the drama will stay somewhat true to the novel. The problem with the romantic leads is that they usually have been sanitized too much and then feel bland and boring. Such characters don’t offer many opportunities for showing some acting range, so it’s no wonder that there is an abundance of pretty boys in these roles. The Lu Shiyan in the novel can be quite manipulative and vicious, but I’m sure we’re not getting to see any of this.
the ML looks more like a villain than a protagonist
A good actor can play both villains and protagonists without any need for a face transplant. Jeremy has proven many times that he can play a variety of roles and I think that he is quite suitable for this one as the ML isn’t supposed to be some green romantic boy, but a stern and cold official of the Supreme Court. Also, some viewers like men, not boys as romantic leads.
Yes, I agree. I don’t mind if they have to change some things, but I hate it when they mess up a good novel.…
Haha, no such problem here. My brain is already messed up with too many languages jumbling around in it. 😂 I usually use Yandex for translating the whole text as a block and then I use a translation app for the sentences that don’t make any sense. After a while it becomes easier because you get used to a lot o& expressions that the machine comes up with and know what they are supposed to mean. Yabla is quite a good tool for all these darn idioms. But there are always a few bits that just cannot be deciphered with any tool…
Out of curiosity, why do they feel the need to dub him? Is it because of time restraints? Or is it like with Wallace…
Haha, so we can expect a reply maybe some time in the next decade when he checks his messages again 😂😂😂 He is so laid back when it comes to his social media that it is almost annoying, but in times where so many would-be stars fall over themselves for attention and are desperate enough to even buy it, I find his attitude rather refreshing and commendable.

Dubbing is boring and hard work. My theory is that he just cannot be bothered to do it and he can afford to pay someone else to do it. His accent and line delivery I are just fine, both in ancient (The Autumn Ballad) and modern (Trace) settings. He and the production teams behind these dramas don’t seem to realise how much pull using his real voice would have. I’ve rarely seen any of his Chinese fans comment on the voice so maybe it sounds more attractive to international viewers…
Considering how long we had to wait for this, another two hours is nothing…

I think Jeremy’s acting is best when there is someone to push against.

Watched it nonetheless over breakfast as I more or less know the story and tonight I can watch it again with subs 😀
